Very sensitive and perceptive understanding of the new and different challenges and how to cultivate the best creative relationship with the new company. A fascinating discussion indeed thanks for being so honest and open

Like coming out of an umbrella of safety to facing the big, wide world all by yourself. Daunting. Thank you both heaps for your honesty. Must have been uplifting though in a way. You’re good enough snd you’ve made it. 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

Thank you! It’s a tough time and overwhelming in a lot of ways. As our teachers say “it’s just the beginning”

I joined the Corps de Ballet of a Company February last year and immediately got offered a lot of soloist roles and I fortunately got to perform theses roles as well, this is still continuing to happen which is awesome. Is it wrong of me to expect a promotion soon, as I’ve been given opportunities and I rose to the occasion and performed well and in our semi annual meetings that we get on our progress I’ve gotten excellent feedback, a promotion should be coming right or am I delusional 🙈😭

Has your company been known to promote dancers rapidly in the past? My advice is to see each opportunity as a chance for growth and as a learning experience, enjoy the journey and not have any expectations, that way if promotion doesn't happen imminently you won't be too disappointed. As John Lennon said, "life is what happens to you when you're busy making others plans". Blink and you'll miss it!

I wouldn't focus on the promotion side of things. Focus on your work and growing as an artist and things should fall into place.

Thank you for a very interesting conversation. I'm sure this will help young students who are about to enter a company or who have just started. I'm not a dancer, but I have worked in many different non-arts jobs and basically keeping your ego in check, being respectful, and asking for help when needed are always a good idea for anybody starting in a new workplace, even if you're coming in as a manager. As for the dancers who are "too good" to be in the corps and are soloists right away, what is life like for them? I assume that the women who have been in the corps for several years might feel resentful. The other soloists, who have probably been there for several years, are probably resentful as well. I would imagine a brand-new soloist would have more loneliness and self-doubt even though they might have been convinced they're a pretty hot shot considering their status when they left school. I'm not sure the powers that be are actually doing that dancer any favours. I'd love to hear anybody's thoughts on that. Maybe I'm just dramatizing too much because I have watched too many movies or whatever - maybe real life isn't like that. Although, even in the considerably less artistic jobs that I've had, this kind of instant promotion of someone who has not been perceived to have "earned it" or "paid their dues" doesn't sit well with many people. Thank you for sharing your experiences! I hope you have a nice weekend. 🌸😃

This is very true! It’s quite a complex topic and depends a lot on many factors of environment but we can talk about this more soon ❤

Can I ask you why you didn't join a company? Is it because of your back problems. I loved this video, so informative.
