Nick, I'm 24 years old and both my parents passed away from lung cancer. My mom was first and was the hardest experience because she was sick for months and I had to watch her wither away in the hospital. I love your brand, I love your mental state, and I love your perseverance. My mother passed a little over 2 years ago and my father this last May. I followed you through your iron man training as I went through my training for the Spartan Beast - my first half marathon and first race over a 5k. I've now decided that I'm going to strive to qualify for Boston and I start my level one training this coming Tuesday. Thank you for being an inspiration and forming this community. I wish you all the best training for Boston this time around as I will be training too although I won't have my qualifying race until Phoenix 2021. I'll be completing the Spartan Trifecta next year and looking towards hitting my first marathon as well as my first ultra (50k) next year as this was my first goal. Keep doing you -- I'll be looking for you in future Bostons and maybe Badwater down the road. Cheers, Mate. -- Cole

Great short documentary, just wanted to thank you for sharing your story. My inspiration is my wife. She is the reason why I am motivated everyday. Back in 2013 I weighed 335 and was able to lose 130 lbs to donate a kidney to my wife. She is my on switch everyday that gets me motivated to be the best person I can be. Best of luck to you.

I’m not a runner, nor am I anywhere near interested in doing any type of marathon. I love seeing your passion, drive, and never quit attitude. It’s truly inspiring, bro. I, too, am an Army Veteran. I wasn’t a Ranger or anything, but seeing a brother do what you do makes me proud. I am a businessman and I’m also trying to get back into shape. The race is on march 7th. I am new to the Super long distance running thing so if anyone has any tips I would appreciate it. I have a good training plan but I am clueless on what to do for nutrition.
@JohnJehl
@JohnJehl 5 жыл бұрын
stephen carlson I ran my first half marathon a few months ago (also inspired by Nick actually)! I think it really just comes down to conditioning. If you’re following a training program you’ll do great, just stick to it and it’ll get you conditioned. you just gotta power through if it gets tough! For a half marathon nutrition isn’t as vital as longer distances like a full marathon. I’d just make sure to eat relatively healthy foods, and foods you’re used to. Also since you’ll be running more with a training plan, you’ll probably need to eat more than usual just to make up for those burned calories from running. Hope this helps!
@peterjsmcleod3341
@peterjsmcleod3341 5 жыл бұрын
stephen carlson I’ve done quite a few half’s and one full marathon. Try and follow a programme if you can and stick to it and you’ll be fine. Make sure you practice getting you fluids and fuel in and get it nailed down, try different gels too. Most of all, have fun as it’s a brilliant experience! Best of luck.

Hi Nick, I’m from the UK and I’ve been watching your videos since your Korea days. I don’t usually write comments on KZbin, but this video really moved me. I’m so sorry for your loss. But, turning that into something so positive - your Ironman, this amazingly put together video and putting a new meaning to ‘embracing the suck’ - you made your mother and everyone else around you proud. And as that’s the legacy she’s left behind on you, I hope you go on to inspire others to go and do the same.

Thank you for this video. I lost my mom 8/16/2019 to renal cancer, renal failure, congestive heart failure. I was her caretaker for the past year and watched her suffer terribly. I have been a subscriber for quite some time now and have been moved by your ability to discipline yourself. I really believe there is nothing you can't do once you make up your mind. Having said that, would you consider doing a video or a video series of helping others to develop their brain muscle so to speak, to becoming a disciplined human being, such as yourself. I feel like you could really help a lot of people including myself how to develop that level of discipline. Congratulations on your achievement. I can't wait to see what you do next. Thanks again Nick for being an inspiration to so many people!♥

I don't say this frequently (dare, I say, ever) -- but I am legitimately motivated, encouraged and moved by this video. I don't know how it showed up in my recommendations (wait, wasn't I just watching videos about how to sharpen my kitchen knives?) but I am so happy it did. Unbelievable accomplishment. Congratulations (on so many different things). I lost my dad when I was 17 and my mom when I was 28 - both to cancer. I very much understand the forced perspective of "how can I complain about my own life given the things I've seen those I love go through?". Way to harness it [and embrace the suck].

Ironman is one of the most challenging things a human can do. I've done a half ironman and few marathons and i cannot imagine trying to do those things carrying around all that weight and muscle. Its exponentially harder to do it when you are a big muscular dude. If you look at the top pros in this sport, they are all 150lbs of super lean athletes, in order to go fast and for long time, you have to be very light, so i salute you.

This guy is right. A person carrying around more weight burns more calories than a person carrying around less weight for this marathon. Take this analogy for example, if I gave you one tank of fuel for your toyota prius or truck, which one would you think would be able to make it farther using just one gallon of fuel?

Man, I really felt your pain when talking about your mum. Mine died when was I was 18 and my sister 15. She was a great sportsman and full of joy but she was dealt pretty bad cards with her health. Eventually she died from a stroke and the last sentence I ever heard anyone telling my mom was - "These are your children" told by my dad as she was not able to recognize us anymore. Few days later she passed away. Not a day pass by that I don't remember her. I am 40y old, have a kid of my own and pushing myself towards my first half and hopefully putting full marathon after that on my to-do list. I am happy for you that you were able to do this.

Hi Nick, I came across your video and you have truly inspired me to complete an Ironman in honor of my uncle and grandfather who both passed away this year. I don't think you will ever truly understand how much you have inspired me today but I just wanted to thank you for this video. I am determined to complete an Ironman for them. It will be a long journey but I know both my uncle and grandfather will be with me the whole way to the finish line. Thanks again Nick

As someone who's watching this years later, it's still made an impact on my life. I hope this continues for however long this video is up. I have "Turn the switch on and break it" written on my office white board now. I pray for you and your family. I cant imaging losing my mother. She is my rock. I pray you all have healed this and know that God has a plan.
