Nick, I'm 24 years old and both my parents passed away from lung cancer. My mom was first and was the hardest experience because she was sick for months and I had to watch her wither away in the hospital. I love your brand, I love your mental state, and I love your perseverance. My mother passed a little over 2 years ago and my father this last May. I followed you through your iron man training as I went through my training for the Spartan Beast - my first half marathon and first race over a 5k. I've now decided that I'm going to strive to qualify for Boston and I start my level one training this coming Tuesday. Thank you for being an inspiration and forming this community. I wish you all the best training for Boston this time around as I will be training too although I won't have my qualifying race until Phoenix 2021. I'll be completing the Spartan Trifecta next year and looking towards hitting my first marathon as well as my first ultra (50k) next year as this was my first goal. Keep doing you -- I'll be looking for you in future Bostons and maybe Badwater down the road. Cheers, Mate. -- Cole

The race is on march 7th. I am new to the Super long distance running thing so if anyone has any tips I would appreciate it. I have a good training plan but I am clueless on what to do for nutrition.
@JohnJehl5 жыл бұрын
stephen carlson I ran my first half marathon a few months ago (also inspired by Nick actually)! I think it really just comes down to conditioning. If you’re following a training program you’ll do great, just stick to it and it’ll get you conditioned. you just gotta power through if it gets tough! For a half marathon nutrition isn’t as vital as longer distances like a full marathon. I’d just make sure to eat relatively healthy foods, and foods you’re used to. Also since you’ll be running more with a training plan, you’ll probably need to eat more than usual just to make up for those burned calories from running. Hope this helps!
@peterjsmcleod33415 жыл бұрын
stephen carlson I’ve done quite a few half’s and one full marathon. Try and follow a programme if you can and stick to it and you’ll be fine. Make sure you practice getting you fluids and fuel in and get it nailed down, try different gels too. Most of all, have fun as it’s a brilliant experience! Best of luck.

I have been a subscriber for quite some time now and have been moved by your ability to discipline yourself. I really believe there is nothing you can't do once you make up your mind. Having said that, would you consider doing a video or a video series of helping others to develop their brain muscle so to speak, to becoming a disciplined human being, such as yourself. Ironman is one of the most challenging things a human can do. I've done a half ironman and few marathons and i cannot imagine trying to do those things carrying around all that weight and muscle. Its exponentially harder to do it when you are a big muscular dude. If you look at the top pros in this sport, they are all 150lbs of super lean athletes, in order to go fast and for long time, you have to be very light, so i salute you.

Man, I really felt your pain when talking about your mum. Mine died when was I was 18 and my sister 15. She was a great sportsman and full of joy but she was dealt pretty bad cards with her health. Eventually she died from a stroke and the last sentence I ever heard anyone telling my mom was - "These are your children" told by my dad as she was not able to recognize us anymore. Few days later she passed away. Not a day pass by that I don't remember her. I am 40y old, have a kid of my own and pushing myself towards my first half and hopefully putting full marathon after that on my to-do list. I am happy for you that you were able to do this.

As someone who's watching this years later, it's still made an impact on my life. I hope this continues for however long this video is up. I have "Turn the switch on and break it" written on my office white board now. I pray for you and your family. I cant imaging losing my mother. She is my rock. I pray you all have healed this and know that God has a plan.

Went looking for running videos and stumbled upon yours a couple days ago(the one of you going for a mile PR on the track) KZbin keeps recommending you since and I've been watching. This is the single greatest video I've seen this year. Thank you

It's crazy to think you were just in the Army a couple years ago, now your out in is a public figure to many I guess the Army do set people up for greatness. I'm starting to think I made the greatest decision of enlisting, I ship out to basic Jan 6th Ft Benning!

Fantastically inspiring and motivating. Forget your business and everything else; the amount of people you motivate to dig deeper and tough it out, to embrace the suck, is your legacy.
