Would you paint your doors black? How about another color?

Taller doors make an impact on the look and feel of the home. I recently went inside of a new build with large doors and it is truly grand. Everyone thought I was crazy but I replaced my hollow core for solid when I moved in to my home and I’m very pleased. My home has 13 ft, 10 ft and 8 ft ceilings. All on one floor lol. I decided to keep the height which is standard as I figured different size doors would look odd. I would definitely change the size if all of my ceilings were consistent and above 10ft. Hmmm. Although I considered painting my doors black a long time ago, I think I prefer them to blend in. I do appreciate them in other homes however. Your Emtek knobs and your doors are stunning.

Just painted all my doors jet black and decided to do all the trim black as well. I did simply white walls. It turned out beautiful. Love the contrast.

Beautiful doors! We are in the process of changing ours now. We found a company here that measures the opening with this light that measures exactly the opening and the doors are then manufactured with those specific measurements so the trim and casing can stay. I can't wait to see how it will turn out. The door hardware you selected with the black paint is beautiful. I think I am going that route :)

My home has 10 - 12 ft ceilings in the open areas (family, living, kitchen, and hallways) with round bullnose corners. With the exception of my entry door 8" tall, all of the interior doors are std 6'8" tall. I think this is because the bedrooms and bathrooms have 9ft tall ceilings. How tall are your ceilings in the bedrooms and bathrooms? I might add, I have the exact same Emtec handles but in SS that I put on 15yrs ago. They are timeless that will never go out of style.

Love that you still have and love your Emtek handles! My home has 10 foot ceilings in most of my home with the exception of 12 foot ceilings in my great room. So the taller doors work well with the proportions on 10 foot ceilings. With 9 foot ceilings taller doors might be overkill… just my thought! Thanks for watching!

Great Video and defiantly agree with the black doors. Now that the interior doors are all done what Color are you planning on going with the garage @Christina Nelson ? Let me guess black? I planning on going with a black garage door because it gives a Luxuriesous feel like you mentioned.

Yes, we did the garage door black on both sides and raised it to 8 feet. The garage door is a different door than the rest of doors because it needs to be a fire code door. But I do love the black! Thanks for watching!

What color did you change your walls to? To pair with tricorn black

Our walls are painted Creamy by Dunn Edwards. But we used Sherwin Williams paint! And I agonized over white paint for weeks! I am happy with this choice! Appears bright white but it does actually have some warmth and yellow/beige in it so it isn't stark, cool white. Similar to Simply White but not quite as yellow.

Hi! I’m also from Las Vegas. When did you purchase the doors? And what about the trim? Is it also black?

We ordered the doors about 1.5 years ago now. We ordered from Avanti Doors here in Las Vegas, they were the most recommended here locally. The trim was also from Avanti. We didn’t paint the trim black. Most of the doors and trim come white primed but will need to be painted before or after install. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

The doors were purchased from a local door company. The doors are from the brand Jeld-Wen -- the solid core door. I don't know if you can purchase direct from the manufacturer, you may need to go through a 3rd party company like we did. Best of luck!

Excuse me very much but why would ANY builder put standard 6r8" doors in a home with 10 and 12 feet ceilings? Did you change the ceiling height after you bought the house that had low- 'regular ceilings" And I agree, the hollow doors are not what is heeded in a home! But I cannot get why a builder would do that- very strange.

Unfortunately Las Vegas (in my opinion) has very builder grade homes that are built cheaper and with little craftsmanship. In the very high end custom homes this may be different. But 95% of Las Vegas homes are builder quality type homes. So putting in low doors with high ceilings I would actually expect things like that here. It does actually bother me about Las Vegas especially for how expensive real estate is… I grew up in upstate New York and homes just had so much more character and wood working and care. Maybes it’s because homes were older and from a generation of better quality but there is definitely a difference between. Anyhow, that’s a long explanation! So we have tried to add that care and craftsmanship back into our home but it is hard to do retroactively! Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments on my video - it really helps my channel! @@christinalnelson Oh yes, I have friends from upstate NY and things are so different looking there. Of course, it depends on how upstate you are talking about, Nevertheless, I'm in the South and my Dad, the Engineer, drew up all the pans for the 3 houses they built-with the "asks" in it from my Mom. And they were so well built! I know they have definitely stood the test of time because I can remember at age 4-5 watching the bricklayer butter the backs of the whole bricks to work with. And he had the foresight to put in ductwork so that one day there could be central air! We had an attic fan. And it was years before we had one section of the downstairs with a window unit in it. No ac in cars, either. It was hot but we were kids and could bear it. But then, it is much hotter these days than it was back in the olden days. Enjoy your channel an explanations a lot.
