Nice! It's so annoying hardware stores don't sell the ready-made square or rectangle trims. I want to make a 4-panel rectangular one. Such a hassle without the right tools.
@TayMarie23 Жыл бұрын
Definitely! I did look into some online options that you just stick on the door and paint over if needed, some were wood and some were that PVC stuff. But they were like $30-$40 per panel! It would have cost a hundred just to do one door…might as well just get a bran new panel door at that point 😂
@micheleln3267 Жыл бұрын
They also now sell a scissor type tool to cut trim pieces either straight or even 45° angle, just like cutting paper w scissors. It's very easy w thin trim pieces. Try them, they even sell them for $10 or less, Temu even sells them. It's easier then ever to tackle sm projects at home now a days w all the DIY out there. If they made them ready for doors in square shapes, it's basically pic frames..... Try it, u can do anything u put your mind to. Good luck, don't forget to pick up the scissors that now cut trim at any angles!
@ameliacraiig4193 Жыл бұрын
@@micheleln3267 Thanks! I've just recently added shears & pliers to my Temu & Shein cart for different purposes. I did try looking for pic frames, but the specific length it needed to be made it so expensive (I have ten doors in my house; i.e. 80 pic frames - 8 on each door/4 on each side - of the required size was just too much). Also, I found it so hard to find what I now know is called "astragal decorative moulding" ("Ashford Molded Classic Wainscot" in America) or "ogee moulding" in the right length & wood-effect material. That day of extensive searching was a struggle!🤣 What's the exact name of these 45° angle trim scissors?

This door is in our rental property so I don’t know the extract wear and tear it’s getting, been it’s been about a year and they look just as good as the day I finished them! I’m sure if you used slightly more expensive wood frames it would hold up for as long as the door!

Try using a high quality primer before you paint, it will stop any tannins from bleeding thought causing yellowing. I always recommend buying a paint and primer separately. Hope this helps! And I used the Behr Ultra Scuff Defense in white!

@TayMarie thanks for the response! I'm new to DIY stuff, plus a new homeowner. All my doors are flat on both sides. Is it a better practice to add these frames on both sides or just the side facing the exteriors of the room?
@TayMarie23 Жыл бұрын
You can definitely do both sides! You can even keep the doors hanging on the hinges and just slide some cardboard underneath to catch any mess!
@abbyiyer20118 ай бұрын
U could gave used wooden trims from lowes the size you want and would have worked cheaper too.
@TayMarie238 ай бұрын
It would of been about x5 the price but yes absolutely! I think I even say that would be a great option in the video! This project cost me $4 because each frame was $1 ☺️
@BASE-hb1ji7 ай бұрын
Cheap and super quick to do with minimal cutting... A little unsure why you didn't paint the inside of the door though, and when it was rehung, there was a massive lob side gap in the top left-hand corner???
@TayMarie237 ай бұрын
I explained why in the video :) The gap was there before and much worse, I was actually able to level it out a bit but it’s an old house with lots of bad settling, the entire frame was completely out of square. The white made the gap a lot more noticeable though!

How many frames did you buy to used for one side of the door
@TayMarie232 жыл бұрын
I used 5 frames total for one side. One of the 5 is used for “parts”. I broke the 5th frame down and used the longer two sides to elongate the top decorative panel and used the smaller two sides to elongate the smaller lower decorative panel. You might even be able to get away with 4 on a smaller door and might need 6 for a larger door. Hope this helps :)

What Amazon paint needs no primer? I'm looking for a black one
@TayMarie232 жыл бұрын
I would definitely recommend using a primer if your door doesn’t already have a layer of paint on it. If it is already painted and you just want to update it/change the color, then lightly sand and use any black paint you would like! There are also combined paint and primers you could use, it’s one product with both in it :)
