This is the best overall review of Frankish origins I have had a chance to learn about.

@@Europeanhistorianwell you're kicking ass for this old history nerd, good luck and keep it up.

I watched this video because European history is so complex, and I have a special interest in Germanic history, that I needed clarification regarding events leading to the split between the Franks and the Germans. You did a great all around. It was also very enlightening in learning how the names of many regions came about. My other primary interests include the Roman and Anglo-Saxon history of England, so I hope eventually you can cover that domain as well. Thanks, and good luck!

As someone who uses captions on most media, I appreciate the captions you inserted. Weren’t “jarring” at all

I wonder, were the ripearin franks the leftovers of belgea, batavians and saxons or chatti? Maybe some other left over germans that crossed the rhine for a better standard of living?
@Europeanhistorian2 ай бұрын
Sorry buddy, I missed your comment. It is hard to say who were they leftovers. Identities changed very quickly in that time, and we even do not know exactly how they saw themselves as we have no their own written sources. All that we know is, how Romans saw them, so they were some kind of mixture of everything.

You ruined it with the captions - sorry, but it was unwatchable for me, why not simply use YT subtitles, then people can choose? Having that huge strapline of words flashing up constantly was incrediby jarring and distracting.
@Europeanhistorian2 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Will consider your idea seriously, because I am not big fan of captions either. There are really a lot of different opinions about that, but I got your point.
