Yes. It's the first shear I've seen where the sheep is just resting against your legs at the start. Like it's been hypnotized by the noise of the clippers! Also - just when you think you've finished, another woolly flank appears 😄

He looks just like my morning coffee. Dark and rich! What I really want to know is where does all that wool go? What is an “UGG” sheep, Merino or what sheep does Cashmere come from? Would love to know as you sheer each one. Tks!
@Enticing_PuddleАй бұрын
It's so trippy watching this as a dog groomer. You have to be super careful around the eyes, neck, legs, and sanitary area otherwise they nick like nobodies business. Sheep you just zip on over these risky parts with such ease. Dogs you have to stretch the skin/ only go in one direction. The thought of using a skip tooth blade like what sheep shearers use gives me a panic attack. Lol! Same medium different canvas I guess. Super cool though!

The black ones are so beautiful when you get down to the bottom of the fleece. So sad they are not valuable. I would think naturally black wool would be more valuable than white wool thats been dyed black. All the other colors I understand
@GrainneDhub-ll6vwАй бұрын
Depends on your market demographic. As a hand spinner, I'm happy to pay a premium for a gorgeous deep black fleece--but it has to have good staple length, good lock formation, good crimp, etc. If I have really good staple length and I want a deep black, I've been known to go through the fleece lock by lock to snip off the sunburnt tips. And I've even taken a natural warm black like that and dyed half of it with acid dye in a combo of cool black and navy blue to get the deepest neutral black possible. Then when I've combed it with the undyed fleece and spun it, the very subtle variation in colour makes for a rich, living black that is so different from anything I've ever seen available in commercially spun yarns.

That's so pretty! Was that the effect of sunlight on the wool, that caused the bleaching?

@lovelightcontinuum2 ай бұрын
That sunbleached brownish red is NOTHING like the beautiful black underneath. Would a coat to cover it make the wool a more marketable or usable thing, or is it of low crimp and whatever else makes it not so desirable anyway? Seems like a fleece of that natural black would be really sought after by some people.
@susangrande81422 ай бұрын
Yes, coats on the sheep would make it stay closer to the black and gray underneath. Sun bleaching would still happen on the parts not covered by coats, the neck, head, and legs. I was surprised the lamb is getting sheared so soon: looks like maybe 6 months’ growth, not a full year’s. As a spinner, I wouldn’t be able to use that wool.
