Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan, the group’s fighters have been slowly establishing themselves in security roles across the nation. In Kabul, the Taliban has had to build a new police force from scratch to replace the one disbanded immediately after the capital fell on August 15, 2021. But as Taliban fighters police the streets, many appear to still be trying to adjust to their new roles.

The Taliban were heros when the cia were using them as proxy agents to fight the Soviet union. There are still propaganda messages from that era to that effect. My favorite is from a Rambo movie, praising the brave mujahideen. That didn't age well.

Dear Andy G , it would have the same rate of decline in crime if taliban controlled your state or neighbourhood 😂, i bet you will never honk your car in your lifetime if you know taliban will punish you hard since they announced honking is prohibited . You know; there is a difference between democracy and dictatorship.

You could say that the Taliban learnt their lesson from the past and are now taking a subtle different approach in order to look after the country, thanks to the corrupt government. Everyone is literally watching Afghanistan, so they are smart trying to not cause any trouble with other countries.

@GavinLiuranium 2 жыл бұрын
I am willing to give the Taliban the benefit of the doubt. I believe the Taliban is not the same old Taliban that governed Afghanistan from 1996-2001 anymore, they even disbanded once in 2011. Maybe they learned their lesson and actually want to genuinely serve the people now, along the lines of traditional Islamic and Afghan guidelines but no longer blindly following them like terrorists. I’m not saying they are perfect or they are angels or anything, but I can see them trying to improve and win the hearts of their people. Who knows, maybe 10, 20 years later, it’ll be the Taliban that led Afghanistan to safety and prosperity? Well, only time will tell and I hope Taliban won’t disappoint.
@DeNihility
@DeNihility 2 жыл бұрын
I'd give them the benefit of doubt as well. They seem less insane that ISIS/L/K. Assuming this isn't propaganda, an open but traditionalist Afghanistan seems to be the way forward. As long as the Taliban govern Afghanistan as a unified power, that would be the safest route for the country. The problem is that it's not uncommon for groups like this to have break-off groups that begin to oppose the main group which causes conflict.

@TAL142
@TAL142 2 жыл бұрын
You can't do worse than the old US approved corrupted Afghan police force. The fact is it is their country. If you are occupying their country, you really can't complain about violence because you invaded their country and forced the Taliban to follow your order. It wasn't Taliban that attacked anyone despite they might have sympathized with them.

They're already taking the guns from civilians so the civilians can't defend themselves against the Chinese communist government when they show up to take over. Afghanistan has a shitload of lithium and other valuable natural resources but it's tricky to mine it and move it out because of Afghanistan's mountains.
