Firstly, it is without doubt that Ife holds a very significant importance to southern part of Nigeria especially SW to the river niger, however stating emphatically that Benin, Delta, ondo is part of a yoruba empire is puting the cat before the horse because the term Yoruba cant come before what had existed for centuries... Only after Samuel Ajayi Crowther did the term Yoruba name was used to decribe the dialects of various tribes in the SW of Nigeria and before that it was Ijebu, Egba, Oyo, Ijesha and so on but if you had coined it Oduduwa Empire it might be more debatable as most SW ethnic groups including Edo and Delta do have political and ancestral affiliation through conquest or cultural identity relating to Oduduwa... Yoruba identified initially with the Oyo dialect but Awolowo politicised the tern to include descendants of Oduduwa which also is contradicting for precolonial empires like Benin to be identified as in today's Nigeria...
