This channel showed me a completely different appoach to poker. It is very strategic and chess like. It is pretty hard for a "pre--gto" player like me to put together all those concepts, but it is very intriguing. There are no such poker channels on youtube. Amazing.

Situations like that last Q10 hand I used to do the exact same thing religiously. I'd check with the thought process of I'm going to induce a bet that I can jam on but they just never bet enough for that to happen. I feel Pete is right even if you sort out that 1 single part of your game I'd say it will put you into a winning player it's crazy how much of a difference it makes. Bet in those spots by default whenever you are unsure is good advice. You're so close now! You can smell those George Washingtons floating across the virtual ether you just have to stick your tongue out to taste them 😂👍

Yeah there are jusr a lot of spots where people call a lot wider than they bet and this is one of them.

I know from my own poker experience that there is a wide difference between "knowing what to do" and "doing it". It is much easier in the "classroom" to make the (seemingly) bold plays. there is no money at risk, and you know what the "right" play is. but at the tables, it is hard to break old habits and truly change how you play. the money definitely plays into it. but the "habits" do as well. you "autopilot" into the exact things you are trying not to do because they are so ingrained. none of this is a swipe at Mark. I have "been there, done that" AND with some things I REMAIN there. since Mark is playing higher than the bottom, it might be an interesting experiment to move down a level or two and play some "rule" sessions. it is much easier to "always" raise/bet or "never" limp/call when your playing 2nl or 5nl. and if you play aggro at the lowest stakes and succeed, it will make it easier to do it at the next level, and the next . . . I wish Mark the greatest success.

Thanks for your support. I’m pretty comfortable with the money side but I definitely autopilot at times. I play in part for pain relief / distraction so sometimes I just fall into it. But mostly I find it ok to take on new plays once I apply some focus to it. The coaching has been a game changer in that respect.

Curious how many tables you are playing at one time, Mark? I find my red line suffers when I play 2 or more tables - I tend to go into autopilot and therefore more passive. I have been focusing lately on playing one table and being intentional about my decision making process. As build skills and improve my decision making process, I will add more tables back.

I play 2-3 tables at a time Will. It might make sense to reduce down while I’m trying to play more aggro. There is definitely an element of auto pilot to my game.

im way better at poker from just watching these live coaching vids lol. all that enterntainment poker wasnt making me better at all lol. i might be at the break even point now after watching 20-30 of these vids. online poker is such a different beast sometimes this helps so much

For what it's worth, my learning point from this video (which I've learned on about four separate occasions now) was 'pay attention when you're watching a poker video'. I had fully typed out a comment about finding the idea of betting river weird in the QT hand before I realised that hero didn't, in fact, bet turn.

I think this is a key point. There's a real danger of what I call learntertainment where people tell themselves they're learning from content but they're actually not engaging enough to learn.

Great video as always! Would you ever consider folding if you were playing against an unknown reg that is probably not value betting worse 9x and will not necessarily overbluff since his range is not wider than theory preflop/on the flop? I just feel like this could actually get underbluffed by most regs since most flop floats will either have a club and refrain from bluff river with the missed fd blocker, or will have bd diamonds OTF (which would be flush river). But then most regs won't slowplay enough 6x flop so I guess there's not a ton of value bets by the river so it will be hard to not bluff enough

Folding river would be pretty absurd IMO. If Villain is an unknown reg, then we can't really have a read that he isn't value betitng worse 9x as this would be unusually tight behaviour; not average reg behaviour. Flop float is bet very freely by pool in this sort of spot in my experience so they can't really help but overbluff this sort of node in general. Though of course there will be players who constitue and exception to this.

I want to publicly thank Pete. I bought (sharing with a friend, to be brutally honest) grade 1. I have to say that after reading, and studying the first 5 lessons (of 10 in total) my game, which was decent even before, became my (my ) better than ever. By Far. I am sure it will improve exponentially with the rest of the course. To further improve I would like to ask you, Pete, if there are any shortcuts to determine the Finishing equity, after villian's call... (e.g. I know that a top pair has around 70/78℅ -wide ranges- depending on the kicker ( but by how much does it decrease approximately after villian's call? Sub which tool can we quickly train this skill? Equilab?

This is really nice of you to say thanks! What I've found is that just using starting equity accurately is usually sufficient and that knowing exactly what finishing equity is isn't that important and might even be an inefficient/unecessary use of time.

the TT hand is such a big deviation from what the solver says is correct you have to assume that villian is really overdoing it with the 3bets pre in order to get enuff value there on turn. even if pop doesnt protect enough with ax they could just as easily not thin value bet enough pocket pairs.

good series, think Mark checks too many low weak pairs that need a bit of protection. You have Qx on this kind of board villain is going to have 6-10 outs a great deal

I'm likely the 'villain' in the comments from the previous videos calling Mark a nit. I stand by this, and I think there's a few glaring issues with his game and some of it is mental and some is a lack of fundementals. Mark needs to learn and memories the common preflop game trees. It's not sexy it's not fun but he cannot do what you ask him to do and visualise ranges in post flop configurations when he doesn't know what villain is arriving with. As a teacher you're doing an amazing job but it looks more like Mark is learning rules rather than actually learning to understand/think and it seems preflop is inhibiting him. I think letting him get off the rails preflop and learn he can pulverize low stakes recs and regs alike as a 3b machine will help him see the light of playing a more redline style. GL

Good question. We usually have a chat before recording and come up with a few spots where I think Mark is leaking the most money. On some videos we just look at big losing hands etc. on others we run more specific filters.

I love when I ask people why they took a certain action and they say "pot control" I'm like wtf are talking about? I hardly think of pot control unless getting thin value with marginal hands.

Thinking in terms of equity is definitely a bigger focus for me lately too, and I've noticed Mark is very good at broad range analysis (which I don't focus on as much) and because he's good at it, he's relying on it too much. I think you guys should have Mark play a couple sessions at a much lower stake, see how he fairs, see if he can crush lower stakes just to see if his performance changes. I so wish I could have my game reviewed as brutally as possible! I like criticism 😂 I review my old games and I'm like "wtf are you doing!? Just fold! Oh god why did I call that!"

I think 'pot control' is a classic example of a bad poker buzz word. There are many of these because poker has been such a dreadfully taught game for so long now.

I think Mark should move down in stakes to release the inner aggression in him and become unprohibited and no longer play with scared money. Not that I mean he cant afford to lose the money, but maybe his graph is subconsciously making him play passive as he so wants his graph to go up, instead of down, its making him passive and money scared. Perhaps start a new database, play the new aggressive options, then after X amount of hands, compare the 2 graphs to see how taking the aggressive options affects win rate.

I can't agree that missing thin river value is the cause of Mark's red-line problems. I've never seen Mark check-raise a flop, bomb the turn, and jam the river. Just adding this play to his game is *guaranteed* to move a lot of EV from blue line to red line. Just to be clear I am saying do this with value as well as semi-bluffs.

In the QTs hand around 23:00 what is the point of talking about river decisions when you've already decided he has a mandatory turn bet? If you've already decided that, he will never end up with this hand on the river node?

Because he got there on the river with this hand? It’s important to discuss the decision on a river even if he makes a mistake because there is still value to be gotten. We don’t just “give up” like a solver does because he make a mistake. The hand still continues. Also-I’d imagine, from a theoretical perspective, this will be a check sometimes. So we should actually get to this node on occasion.
