The artists back then had such an unreal, idolized ideal of beauty, just as we do today. Today we have computer "filters" and Photoshop to do what the painters used to do. Nothing ever really changes, does it?

This is an example of just how fickle fate is, and just how fickle the public are. Audrey enjoyed some amazing success, but she just couldn’t handle the aftermath, which is sad. And indeed, she lived a long time in an asylum, I do hope the cats ai other activities brought her some joy. I’m very glad that you got to know her through this presentation and wishing you also all the best in 2024 for my friend.

Hey Oddie, that was so interesting.Audrey was a trail blazer. I can see a rich man (as my son says, "getting butt hurt") because she dismissed their sexual advances and them getting even by ruining her career. Sounds like she got so depressed, clinically depressed, is how she wound up in the asylum. Im glad her neice found her and visited regularly. That must have made her happy. The cats made her happy. I wish they would have escorted her to bar, nothing wrong with having a few toddies, that made her happy. I hope who ever stole the statue loves it and takes care of it. Oddie, your blooper at the end was hilarious 😊

Such a pity she and her mother weren’t accustomed to saving her fortune. So they could live comfortably later in their lives. I’m guessing they were simple folk and not used to having money. Hence she spent it like they’d be no end to it! May she remain resting in peace 🪦🕊️🍃

Thank you Oddie, for telling so beautifully the story of Audrey. Her experience was all too common, even well into the 20th century. When employment is dependent upon youth and looks, it can be snatched away the moment a woman’s maturity began to show. Models fell even more quickly than actresses, even though a good model needs skill and stamina to succeed. Audrey had the perfect structure and form for the time in which she was discovered and celebrated, and her ability to evoke emotion in a pose, and hold that pose for a significant period of time granted her the fame and demand for her work. Unfortunately, she had no one to warn her how fleeting that fame would be, and when the end came, she had made no plan for her future. One must feel some pity for her, as the end came so abruptly, the young and beautiful are so easily exchanged for another, with little regard for the person who lives within the shell. I’m sure she enjoyed her glory years, and got the most out of them she could, but her sudden rejection must have been bewildering to her. She was a true icon of her time, even if most people didn’t know who she was, and her images are collected even now. I’m glad she was able to find enjoyment in her later years, and had appreciative audiences from time to time. No doubt she was a good raconteur, and entertained the people in the bar she visited. She is a person I would have liked to know, and I’m glad to have met her here through you. I’m sorry I have missed a few of your postings, and I will catch up…Richard’s cancer has metastasized into his brain recently, and although it isn’t interfering with his mental acuity, it is creating imbalances with his diabetes and creating weakness in his legs. He has been in and out of hospital several times in this past year, and is having a tough go of it. Wishing you and your Beloved all good things in this new year…know that you both rest warmly in our hearts and minds, and we send you much light and love in the days ahead.💖🖤🇨🇦

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Tamarra, thank you so much and I’m happy to hear from you again. I knew you would reach out when you were ready. Yes, I’m sure her skills as a model with much sought after, especially that she could sit still for long periods without fidgeting. I guess with young people, when they experience such fame, they never think it’s going to end. It would appear that Audrey was a spendthrift. Quite sad that she ended up in a small minded town - with people who didn’t understand her, and went out of their way, not to. As I said, in the presentation, I really would’ve loved to have bought her a few drinks and listen to her stories of old New York. Perhaps in the afterlife, I will catch up with her and she can share a few tales with me. I’m so terribly sorry to hear about Richard and how the cancer has advanced - it’s times like this, where we feel hopeless, do know that you are in our thoughts constantly, and sending you much strength and love. ❤️

@@ObsoleteOddity Thank you so much, we knew this time was coming…but one is never truly ready for it. We are living each day our best, and wasting no time we have left. Thank you both for keeping us in your thoughts and giving what energy you can…it matters. I think part of Audrey’s spending was to try and fit into the higher society that invited her to parties and the rest. Not having the prescience to see a time the work would cease, she just tried to fit into the society that seemed to be welcoming her in. She wasn’t that much different from the models and socialite “swans” Truman Capote liked to be seen with, and later tear down in his writing. They were all expendable…and they were the only ones who didn’t know they were. I would have loved to sit with Audrey and hear her tales too.🖤🇨🇦

@tamarrajames3590 you’re absolutely right, my friend, nothing can prepare us for such a thing. We tried to philosophize about it, but to actually deal with it when the time comes around is a different matter altogether. Wishing you both much strength, combined with the knowledge that the parting is temporary. Please give our kindest regards and love to Richard ❤️

She sure lived a long time, but so sad she spent most of her life in an insane assylum. Oddie, I just love your stories. You're the best! Ahh, Oddie!! Your bloopers made me smile. Stuff like that sort of makes one feel not so alone and underscores our common frailties. You are such a dear and a person who would be fun to chat with. Such a hopeful story with a sad end. Seemingly, success was not to be Audrey's for long. She had a good start and a good taste of fame and fortune all to have it snatched away through little fault of her own. So many tales like that. Makes me wonder if being an unsung hero/heroine is a better reward. I also wanted to say how much I sincerely enjoy the photos you place in your videos and your animations; so unique. Thank you. ❤

As always an excellently told story, fascinating and tragic. She was quite avant-garde and then to think she spent most of her life in a mental institution after such a brilliant career. Women were so easily committed in those days too and I agree she probably wasn't mad at all, just misunderstood. Thank you Oddie Beau!! That bit at the end had me giggling!! Seashell she sells LOL

I have a large table lamp which features a very elegant female figure. I've always wondered if it was modelled on anyone in particular. Now pretty convinced it was Audrey Munson.

Bittersweet story to a monumental woman. Unfortunate that her mother did not help her invest her hard earned money for a rainy day; especially at the height of her fame. RIP beautiful lady.

Thank you for memorializing the life of a special person. I can't help but identify with Audrey in the sense that at 54 all my liveliest and most notable achievements are behind me and an ongoing struggle with depression and self medication has left me quite solitary and isolated, however I'll never give up and I'm convinced my story will have a happy ending, and also, I dont want to be a downer. My main point is that it is so lovely that you have intensified and shared her legacy all these years later. Honestly, what more could a person who may've been forgotten in life hope for in death?

Happily Ever After(whatever that may be for you) WILL find you🎉❤🎉

Thank you for your kind words Katherine. As we get older, we realise that life is not a pleasure cruise - and there will be a heart aches and sadness. But I do believe that some of the greatest joys can be experienced in later years; and regarding any hardships faced, we suddenly realise that we have the tools/strength to deal with it. We are so much stronger mentally & spiritually than in our youthful years.

This was so interesting. I had only briefly heard of Audrey Munson and honestly never thought she was that attractive, yet, she did have a Greek and Romanesque look about her. I found it tragic that she was vilified due to the actions of a complete stranger. Fame always seems to come with a price. Thank you for this!

Dear friend Oddity. I love all the work you do for us. Your stories are amazing. Love all your amazing special effects. I feel sorry for Andrea. They cared only until they were done with her. Just like Hollywood. Very sad. God bless you Oddity. I think she was a little gullible and perhaps dumb. Was no thinking at all.

What a truly sad end to the life of once a truly aspiring influential model. Fact she spent her later years locked up in mental asylum was very sad to hear. She had it all then it was so cruelly taken away from her when no one needed her anymore. That sex scandal completely ruined her & from that point onwards her life just went downhill rapidly. I actually feel so sorry for her but I'm glad she's now got the recognition & her own tombstone that she totally deserved. As always i truly admire all the hard work & effort u put into each of these videos Oddie. The attention to detail is just immaculate & those pictures have so much realism to them. You're such an amazing story teller & your narration skills are among the best I've ever heard. Your content is always an amazing treat to us viewers so it's forever immensely appreciated. Can't wait for the next one

Yes, it’s truly shocking to know how long she actually spent in a mental asylum - I do hope they treated her kindly, at least she had cats and books to keep her occupied, and I love the fact that she was allowed to pop over to the bar. Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, my friend, I really appreciate the wonderful compliment. 😊🙏

@@ObsoleteOddity Yeah that was beautiful knowing she looked after cats to pass the time. U can always relie on animals to keep u company. Just such a shame that after a promising career as a well known model she basically just got screwed over had false accusations made against her & was the made the scapegoat for other people's issues to the point her mental health deteriorated massively hence why she ended up in a mental institution. As I already said I'm glad she got the recognition & her very own tombstone in her honour. Was well overdue

Wonderful storytelling as always, Oddie. Audrey is one of the most interesting persons to live. I honestly want to visit all the existing statues in NYC that were designed after her. Mexico, NY is still a town. It's near where I went to school in Oswego. First time I heard about it was a public bus saying it was going to Mexico and I thought "What a long drive" not knowing lol.
