For a year, I spent time at the Tredwell house, giving tours. I was often alone there, and it was definitely creepy. There were certain places I wouldn't even go in the house. One night, I had to shut up the house after a lecture, and I was so creeped out, I had to have friends come and help me close the house for the night, because there were areas so intensely forbidding to me that I could not proceed. I'll never forget it. That building to the left of the house is no longer there, so the house stands by itself, and the brick on the side was not meant to be exposed, so there were water problems on that side. There's a pretty garden in the back. The collection of clothing and personal effects are all archived in the servants' quarters upstairs. I remember Brooke Astor standing on the steps of the house one day, in a lovely suit, with a hat and gloves, talking about old New York. She was over 100 when she died.

I live in a 128 year old house. When we moved in it was in poor shape but my father was a carpenter and together we fixed it up. We found an old photo of the original owner and found out his name was "Uncle Andy Harris" . The lady who was related to him said he died in the "parsonage " (It's a little bedroom on the back of the house for traveling preachers). I told you all of that because while we were fixing up the house we had strange things happening; Bedsheets being tugged on at night, electronics turning on by itself, creaking like someone walking around at night, etc. We got to saying it was Uncle Andy playing with something. We've lived here for 21 years now and we rarely hear from Uncle Andy, but ever so often I will be laying in bed late at night and hear faint music playing. I guess Uncle Andy is enjoying his radio.

I lived in a home where on the site contained a sacred Indian burial ground, a massacre, and two deaths by mutilation which occurred over 150 years ago, I never thought much about it as the year was 2010, but one spirit in particular was extremely angry about how she died. I experienced all of the above and much more as one of the spirits put their hand through me to hug the other spirit. Needless to say, we moved and we lost $100,000 cash equity in the home, but it was worth it. Now, living in an older home, a 1895 castle which thank God is not haunted.

I agree, this old home deserves better than what it is getting. If it's a historical site, you would think the city would buy the property on both sides to keep the damages limited to this old home. A shame, Gertrude with meager means kept it up as best she could, and the city doesn't seem to care. It's all about money, and gain. Thank you Oddie, your stories are the best.

Splendid! I was expecting true stories like this to take place in a British rather than an American setting. Mr. Oddie Beau, I was entranced by the beauty of this presentation. THIS is the kind of ghost story I believe suitable for the more discriminating audiences: it is elegantly serene and as you say, gentle (nothing vulgar about it) and marked by a sweet melancholy that leaves you aching with nostalgia. It is a rare beauty. I am still 53 but i consider myself an antiquarian when it comes to literature... however, true-to-life stories like this accommodate my taste for the vintage. There is something about the past that makes it worth holding on to and letting go of it is tantamount to a dying. A tear rolls down while listening to the demise of each Treadwell family member all the way until the last daughter is left alone to EMBRACE and keep alive the ravishing beauty of a dying past about to be devoured by an encroaching civilization devoid of heart and soul. Their spectral visitations were rather... friendly, to say the least. They were not at all intimidating; one may as well consider such visits most welcoming.

I really enjoyed this. So glad in 1936 , a man saw the historical significance of this house., and ultimately, subsequent caretakers saw its preservation. The 1960’s saw wholesale destruction of so many historic buildings. I was thinking of the collyer brothers before you mentioned them. The building still stands but definitely needs help; I agree NYC should step up to really secure this property. Thank you Oddiy, loved this.

The story, the music, the pictures, everything is brilliantly presented ❤️ Hopefully there are more stories like this in the future Oddie 😍 It amazes me how a place like that was well kept just like in it's glory days. Thank you so much Oddie & looking forward for your next video. Keep it up 👏🏻❤️

I love the history of that beautiful house is amazing. It's terrible the surrounding area has become. It's absolutely fantastic that it's still there. I love the stories like this. I thought you'd been here to the states. You really should come soon before more of our history is lost. Miss Jessi

Hello Oddy! Thanks for remembering us poor folk on YT! LOL! 😉 I have missed your wonderful videos & hearing your pleasant voice reading such scrumptuously creepy stories! I loved this story. I remember your video on the Collyer brothers. That was more sad than anything. But thank you very, very much forvthis story about poor Gertrude. I'm 61 and kind of reclusive myself (although nowhere near this extent!) so I feel very sorry for her. Lots of love dear Oddy!! XO

Thank you so much Oddie, your soothing voice and choice of story is just what I need to feel less alone. Sad how people take all the kindness offered over decades then turn away when the source of kindness, me, becomes old and disabled. Heaven forbid I ask for help, which I tried, only to be rebuffed. It hurts but thankfully Oddie *always* pops up with the most perfect pick-me-up. Happy loving hugs dear Oddie🤗 EDIT: I'm sorry to say dear Oddie but America overall has no sense of preservation. Too many citizens are only interested in turning as much of this nation in to a ghetto, sad but true.😞

The Biltmore hotel in Coral Gables, Florida , built in the 1920s,may be of interest to you. There is a suppose haunted suite of rooms where in the 1920s had illegal gambling and alcohol by the Chicago mob. In the 1940s,the Biltmore was converted into a VA hospital and it's also haunted by American soilders that died there from their injuries after WWII. It's now a luxury again with list of many famous guests that have staid there.

This is a lovely story about an interesting family and their activities. I would very much like to visit the museum, spirits and ghosts don't frighten me. Sounds silly but it would be nice to visit and have conversations with them. :) I grew up in a haunted house, it wasn't particularly pleasant but well, I guess I'm more intrigued.
