A new series where I talk about my progress and improvement in Melee to reach my new goal of Top 100!
Check out my "From Noob To Top 100" Discord server where I am creating a community for players to interact, and learn from one another. I will be there trying my best to learn things from others and help out as much as possible! I also post updates on what I've learned and how I'm developing my ideas for improving faster!

I want you to know that getting top 100 is a 1000+ hour commitment, and that's if you are improving at an fast rate. From SEA, you have virtually zero chance of top 100. You need to play an unholy amount of melee, and melee against people who ARE top 100. I'm being brutal, but that's the reality of competitive melee in 2024. Use netplay if you have the connection for it. I strongly encourage you to go look into the ranked 80-100 players on SSBMrank and see what their track records and histories look like. PLEASE continue to enjoy and improve on melee, but you can do that without the goal of top 100.

Hmm.. When I think of it. I see it as a challenge that is possible but difficult. There are players like aMSa who have gotten Top 100 (arguably this was a long time ago and he had better practice with Japanese players). However I would argue that I actually have advantages over some of the Japanese players. Firstly, I speak English as a first language which gives me opportunities to be coached or taught by top NA players online. I also am able to access English guides online that Japanese players may not be able to translate or understand fully. Another advantage is now that I have slippi, I can even play with the Japanese players and Middle Eastern players. I can play with almost anyone in Asia, whereas Japanese players can only play with some of SEA and Korea because of ping. I also have the opportunities to go abroad and gain some experience. Players like Inngenn have shown that it's possible to show huge improvement over a 2 year period and he even has 2 Top 100 wins already iirc. I'm well aware my region is not the strongest, but it's not like every player here is just horrible. Also, 1000+ hours over 2 years is not really that much. I've spent thousands more hours on other things in my life. I'm not saying it's going to be easy but I am very interested in trying to attain this goal. At least for now. There is a world where I see little improvement and decide to just quit after a year. Who really knows? But for now, this is my goal and I am very motivated to achieve it. I want to document it as well on YT for fun and so I, and others can look back at my journey and see how I did or did not achieve it. I know documenting it publicly is a pretty vulnerable thing as well but I like to keep myself accountable and I think this makes interesting content. I am not offended or upset about the comment. I feel like you are trying to be realistic. And that's OK. I just wanted to post my response here. Thanks :)

Ibdw hit top 100 in a year and a half. What an awful take Lmao. Zain became a top player in 2016 and started in 2014.

@@BallaCS2oh I’m sorry, did they make top 100 without an incredible amount of in-person experience and natural ability Starting as a melee player in 2014 is an entirely different game than starting in 2024. Again, telling people not to shoot for the Olympics when they start playing a sport in high school isn’t exactly outlandish, even if there are some high schoolers who have started and gotten to the Olympics.

@@Poskiix ibdw said you can hit top 100 if you play 2-3 hours a day for 2 years. Also 2014 was way harder to become a top player as Slippi wasn’t a thing
