Beginner here. I bought a bass guitar 3 years ago and tried to teach myself by watching lessons on KZbin and Fender app. Over time, I eventually lost interest because the instructors were going too fast. I am so pleased to come to this channel as Rich explains it very slow which is great for beginners to understand. Thank you Mr. Rich Brown. You are amazing. Can't wait to go to the next lesson!

One cannot overemphasize how important it is to nail those fundamentals of form right from the beginning: left thumb centered on the back of the neck, even alternating right hand fingers, and fretting right behind the fret - essential for a clean, pure tone. I bow to you, sir.

Please note that I'm not a pro .... just an enthusiast that is glad to see if my playing makes any since musically. I feel good that the instrument you are using today is the same as mine except fretless...or smooth frets. I've playing for quite a long time for my enjoyment..... nonprofessionally...but for my enjoyment.... I realize that as a pro it's tough to think non pro...But I think your doing a great job. Thank you very much for your excellent videos. I've started bass guitar for 1 year, and you've been a great help (especially your relax/take your time attitude giving people like me confidence). As a beginner player, i've come to realize I tend to pull strings too strong, reducing agility. My two cents for beginners like me is : don't play strong, instead turn up the volume and play soft but agile.

I've been playing the bass for about 6 months now. And while I can play full songs and all that jazz, your lessons have been helping me to nail the technique. Like I said in a previous comment, you're the teacher I always wanted. You make the whole art of playing and handling the instrument as stress-free as possible. Proving merit is as it is stressful, the last thing we need is a teacher who stresses us out! Your calm, controlled, friendly yet firm approach works really well. As a guitarist taking on the bass, I just jumped into the middle of it all. But this is a much better place to start so I can more systematically identify what is working and what I still need to adapt. Thanks again, Rich. I'll be following this...

Perfect example: near the end of this video, I was gearing up to make a comment like "yeah, but what about the finger position relative to the fret?" And then you proceed to answer it perfectly. On guitar, I usually try to play lightly about midway between frets and it works fine to avoid excess force too far back or risk of muting too far forward. On bass, I found myself needing to be almost right on the fret, just as you describe. So it's great to get validation that this is something you advise as a pro!

Greetings from London England 🇬🇧. You definitely have the gift of teaching. Ive been checking out your beginner videos, and they are clear and concise. I play acoustic guitar in a church, mostly Ccm and hymn / choruses. We've loads of guitarists but no bass player. I've decided to learn the bass for 2 reasons: Firstly, I've always loved the sound. Secondly, to fill in the position later. No one knows (except those reading this) so I won't feel pressured in my new journey 😊
