At 16:06 you do not have any tracking markers, for the laser mode to work? Tracking markers are not designed for curved surfaces. The raptors near infrared is used to track the markers in laser mode. That’s why it’s a bit lack lustre in NIR. Also the texture mapping is a bit irrelevant as you use laser scanning for the amazing accuracy. It’s a true hybrid 3d scanner. It works great if you put markers and marker towers on your turn table. That way you can scan small objects and not have to apply markers on the thing your scanning. There are plenty of 3d printable 3d marker objects, that you apply the markers to on the net. You can also get smaller adhesive markers.

For the fine part test, what about using the turntable and a tripod for the scanner to make everything more stable? I feel like holding the scanner is part of the issue.
@collie1475 ай бұрын
My understanding of the blue laser scanning (which is very limited) is that it works best in a dark environment (i.e. a box) and where a turntable is controlled by software, but I assume the dots are to act as positional markers rather than a synchronised turntable. Perhaps it'll get better with different iterations of the software to recognise the markers.

First of all scanning is a great tool but, without at least basic modeling abilities, it's useless. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one of these scanners but at $300 for the cheapest, I'll keep my calipers, my phone camera and meshroom.

I did a custom air intake for my mobile AC to convert it from 1 pipe to 2 pipe air. You can’t measure this. Photogrammetry is a pain in the X. I tried it. If you need to do serious work. Like modding parts you need a scanner. I did a lot of scans for customers too. For example convert the Asher tray of an Audi A6 to fit USB-C chargers and a switch to switch them off when the lid is closed. Or a Dashboard in the middle air vent of the same A6 displaying oil pressure and temperature. A 300€ scanner is crap. The new Otter and Raptor are probably the best scanners for under 10k€ right now when you want to make parts. Oh and I bought my recent Scanner, CR Raptor, from 3DJake 😊

@@Todestelzerright now I’m machining some custom moulding for a supreme court room. I brought my iPhone and took 124 photos of the existing moulding, brought those photos into 3DF Zephyr, generated a mesh, brought that mesh into Blender to clean it up and cut it into pieces, output those pieces to Vectric Aspire and now I’m making the parts. All done in a couple of days. A little complicated getting used to Blender sculpting, but overall this whole process was not super difficult. I’ve been interested in getting a dedicated 3D scanner, but I haven’t encountered anything yet that I couldn’t do with Photogrammetry.

@@MachinedInWood I own 3D Zephyr too. Nice software but I wouldn’t go back to it. For reverse engineering parts, a scanner is much better. It’s the same with CAD and a Spacemouse. If you own one you will not go back anymore. But don’t buy a 300-400€ scanner there are not worth it.

We could get some adhesive gripping material, cut to size and stick to either side of the scanner to fix that issue easy! I am researching several scanners now decide on which to add to my bench of tools! Thank you for this drill down video my brother in christ! lol

I tried the Revopoint Mioraco Pro because it is a all-in-one device but was so dissappointed: hard to handle and I could not get good scans within 3 days. What are the system requirements (RAM, CPU) for those devices connected to a Windows Notebook? If I try one, I'd prefer to have a lightweight tablet like computer. Btw, please add a search function for "works with mobile" to your shop, thanks.

I think the issue might be with your scanning method, as my scanning experience has been quite good. Especially with their recent optimization of 8K color scanning, I'm satisfied with it.

I’m not a professional or anything like that, so i wish you had really compared all of these to something like the iPad with its Lidar scanning. I’d like to see how it compares to these more “professional” grade scanners to know if my iPad Pro will work for my needs or if I should look into one of these scanners. Sure I could just purchase the app, but I don’t want to buy the app, if the iPad simply won’t do the trick.
@MachinedInWood4 ай бұрын
I was on the same fence for a while. I have become convinced that LiDAR isn’t worth it. I ended up getting an iPhone that didn’t have LiDAR but does have the trueDepth camera. I use the ScaniVerse app on the phone to do basic captures, and many photos into 3DF Zephyr to make detailed models. Scaniverse is free.

It can be. Personally, I use Fusion 360 for proper CAD, but I also use Vectric Aspire, FreeCAD and Blender. Blender is capable of so many different things that it has become one of my favorite tools. It is VASTLY better to do mesh modeling in Blender than it is with any of the other apps that I use. If you get an absolutely perfect 3D capture of something that has deteriorated over the years, Blender can be used to fix the defects and make a new part. Priceless.

This would make CAD to print very accurate. The system wld match the image to the printer controller dynamically. Pleas send me this for Xmas. Thank you.
