Yup. I had the opposite experience about 50 years ago. Became Protestant. What a wonderful change. In my humble opinion Roman Catholicism has become a cult to Mary. I recommend John Macarthur's studies on Roman Catholicism. They are very well done and real eye openers. God bless you in the Name above all names.
@williamgullett59112 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you did that. Question...did it happen when reading the Bible? I've heard of some ex catholics who were told to not read the Bible because "we(priests) tell you whats in the Bible because you cant understand it".....and then when they started reading it a few of the ex catholics got angry that they felt mistaught for so many years

But it didn’t take an act of God for this guy to become a Christian to begin with? Come on now. That is almost sacrilegious. It sounds like you are saying that his becoming a Christian initially was not as much of a God thing as when he became Roman Catholic. Become a Christian, not a big deal. Attended a Presbyterian church, God probably yawned. Where do you find this nonsense in the Bible?

I'm trying to understand why God would bring someone to Catholicism, having read the Bible myself. Is Catholicism Christian? If so, how?
@FiledUnderFaith2 жыл бұрын
When my evangelical mom first met my (now) husband who was raised Catholic, she asked him, "When was the last time you went to a regular church?" By "regular church", she meant a protestant church, but that's kind of a funny way to put it, since the Catholic church was THE Christian church until the great schism with the east around 955 AD, and then of course things became far more splintered during the reformation. "Is Catholicism Christian?" strikes me as being a similar question. I think you have a lot of assumptions wrapped around that question, specifically the assumption that Protestant Christianity is the default. The thing is, Catholicism is the oldest form and the original form of Christianity. I never would have thought that until I studied Church History (particularly the writings from the Early Church Fathers). Reading the writings from the early church blew my mind and showed me just how Catholic the Christian Church has always been.... focus on the Eucharist, submission to the bishop, baptism as regeneration, etc. etc.. it's all there, and always has been. I'd highly encourage you to check out writings such as the Martyrdom of Polycarp, Letters of Ignatius, Justin Martyr, etc. etc. God bless!

@@FiledUnderFaith am I evangelical? Did the church start in Rome or in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. I'm just gonna stick to the scriptures on this one buddy. But thanks for checking in. God bless

Mr. J. Jesus is the reason there is a Catholic Church. Do you honestly believe your immortal soul benefits by coming to a peaceful Catholic podcast just to insult Catholic Christians? By insulting us you insult Christ who established the “one” Biblical, authoritative and apostolic Church which became commonly known as Catholic by at least 107AD. Jesus even told us that He would send the Holy Spirit to guide the Apostles (and their successors) to all truth and that he would be with them until the end of the age. Just to be clear by my read of the Bible Jesus never gave the fallible man who established evangelicalism His authority to do it or make any promises to him either. Mr. J I will pray you find peace and happiness in your life tonight and at mass tomorrow. God bless you.

@@mrj7066, I'm going to stick with Sacred Scripture, too, and also everything *else* God has given us: His Church, His sacraments, His liturgy, etc. The Scriptures are a great place to start, and I encourage you to study them deeply, especially in light of what the Early Church Fathers have to say about them.
