As an agnostic meditator and musician, one of my favorite bands is Shakti. I am blessed to have in my current small band in Seattle one of the top disciples of Zakir Hussein on tablas. I am also kind of an armchair follower of science. The way Dr Sharma ties together what are also my favorite verses of the Rg Veda with the cutting edge science of the LHC is really quite exhilarating for me. Surely I would consider Dr Sharma himself as a modern day sage, no question about it.

Very nice. Vedas not only did question the creation but also answered it, although not in the reductionist view as described by Vivek Sharma. The reality is described precisely in 7th mantra of Mandukya Upanishad and Gaudapada acharya has done a brilliant job of building on this upanishad in his Karika. 1st part: All knowers are dismissed. Reality is not the dreamer (नान्तःप्रज्ञं), waker (न बहिःप्रज्ञं), sleeper (न प्रज्ञानघनं), some intermediary state (नोभयतःप्रज्ञं), all knowing Iswara/God (न प्रज्ञं). Nor is it inert (नाप्रज्ञम्). 2nd Part: all knowns are dismissed. It is: unseen(अदृश्यम), not related to anything(अव्यवहार्यम), incomprehensible(अग्राह्यम), not inferable(अलक्षणम), not thinkable(अचिन्त्यम), indescribable(अव्यपदेश्यम). Negation of all phenomena (प्रपञ्चोपशमं). Here the universe is dismissed. 3rd part: reality is described positively. It is the nature of consciousness which can be traced through the "I" principle running through the 3 states of waking, dreaming and sleeping (एकात्मप्रत्ययसारं). The I is the ego (knower) which was already dismissed in 1st part, but there is a common thread through the ego which is the waker, the sleeper and the dreamer. Saram means essence, i.e. it can be traced through the I experience, it is pointing to the pure awareness which illumines the ego. It is peace, bliss and non-dual (शान्तं शिवमद्वैतं) 4th part: Here it is mockingly saying that ignorant call it fourth (चतुर्थं मन्यन्ते). Why so? It is not a state like the other three (waking, dreaming and sleeping). It is one and only one. This Atman should be known (स आत्मा स विज्ञेयः). The only goal of human life!

Every 200- 300 years since modern science birth there had been and will be an epoch moment which will answer the ultimate question according to its evolved perception . The identification of Higgs boson in 2012 was one such moment. But the universe is infinitesimally complex . Humanity can only take steps towards the final answer but they cannot reach the zenith of creation, because our senses and tools are limited , even though they are updated every century. The sole purpose of humanity should be to experience the universe and be in sync with it. Our synchronisation with universe will lead us to bliss. Blissfulness is the highest aim of human . Blissfulness is which has nothing to do with material- nature like protons, quarks, electrons etc. Universe has evolved human to connect with it experentially. Science can only satisfy instant humanity's urge . But it cannot define the ultimate or reach the ultimate. Because no material aspect of nature can fathom the ultimate. Matter and anti- matter are just two dimensions of the ultimate but they are just part of a infinitesimally larger whole . So any revelation of science or technology should be acknowledged by humanity because the path of science is one aspect of truth- seeking. But humanity should not fool themselves that any discovery of science/ technology is final answer of the universe.

Ah why some people who comment here get into this contest of Vedas vs modern science? This is a western phenomenon where church was against science for centuries. Here in India, there was no polarization as such. People were/are free to propagate their conclusions freely. That's how you have scores of philosophies reining here all under the umbrella Hinduism. That's religious democracy we had for thousands of years in India.

People dont understand that vedas and hinduism opens your mind for new creation and innovations. Spirituality instills power. But people who follow wrong prophets and books from religions perpetrating always violence, rage and war by killing the ones who dont follow their religion would never ubderstand these deep ideas and thoughts. It is not their fault.

I wanna tell you something important.. According to Vedas and upnisad .. every particle has mass ... Because mass proportional to energy .. Energy convert into mass ... Energy is that form which has extremely high speed ... So we can not feel it's mass .. When it loses its high speed it show tendency to stop . In veda it is called bhoo भू तत्व । भू means which has relatively low speed .. when it loses speed it convert into bhoo तत्व । There are major five bhoo tatva . ... Energy is related to avyakt form of brahm ... That's why brahm tatv has extremely super high speed so we can not observ it .. After losing speed it shows tendency to visible and now we can measure it's mass and velocity.. When it loses its speed continuously... Firstly it become vyakt then । आपको 10^20 mass ke barabar energy volt ki jaroorat hogi jo लगभग 10^30 eV tak chahiye .. trillions eV se kuch fark nahi padega space fabric me .. Lhc me keval 10^12eV tak speed mili।।।

Ancient Vedic sages didn't had technology to externally find out the source of universe, So they started searching internally, what is their in the outside(brahmanda/universe), is also there in the inside(Pindanda/body cell). The source of universe and mind is the same thing, so they started tracing the source of the mind, and they found the higher conciousness(Athma/Paramathama/true self) 19 century Raman Maharshi was the latest one who experienced that truth.

As spoken of in the Vedas what is in the mega so is the micro, electrons revolve round protons to form an atom. Yes, proton doesn't but electron revolves round it. It is said that subatomic particles sometimes behave like waves at other times they behave like matter. Even if that does not signify form and formless divine, the energy required by the electron has to be supplied. After all there are certain energies associated with the movement of the electron. This energy is being supplied since trillions of years. Energy has to come from somewhere to keep the movement otherwise the electron would collapse. Where does that energy come from? Is it God?

@Meena Khandelia In my opinion there are two ways to answer your question. 1) Followers of all religion eventually try to validate their religious beliefs by what we call "science". So we have Muslims who derive Big Bang from their Qur'an and the Hindus derive theirs from their concept of Brahmanda (cosmic egg?) from their scriptures. On the face of it, there appears to be no issues here. But on taking a closer look, we discover that the believers of each system reject the truth of the other. This is a sort of contradiction. So each one advocates his own scriptures or religion as being validated by science. Self praise in other words. 2) If ancient religious scriptures had formulated these scientific concepts, why did not Hindus or Muslims discover particle physics? Why could they not construct large hadron colliders during the Hindu Golden Age or Islamic Golden Age? Why are both these (Hinduism and Islam) trying to co-opt what is essentially a result of 98% western contributions to science? Why do not western scientists claim that these concepts have been propounded in their Bible? Like this scientist of Hindu background is doing. Though most Nobel Prizes are won by the scientists of Jewish extraction, we almost never find any of them claiming that the Torah contains all these "truths"? They never indulge is self praise. Also I wonder why most of the Hindu origin scientists never ever discover the greatness of the Vedas as long as they are living and working in India. That definitely raises some questions. Similarly Muslim origin scientists never discover the "truths" in their Qur'an while they are living and working in Islamic countries. Almost always these religiously inclined scientists have to be trained by the westerners before they "rediscover" these truths in their respective scriptures.

@Meena Khandelia First of all it seems you have forgotten to turn off your caps lock. Second of all, I was not giving any arguments. Please read carefully. I was just giving an answer (actually two of them) to your question. And whether the name Hindu was given or taken is immaterial, irrelevant and besides the point. I do not know what name you call yourself by - but like I was saying it is totally tangential to the issue at hand. I think you also need to pay attention to what you are reading. That way you could produce a more appropriate rebuttal without having to scream in all caps. I never compared "it" to Islam (whatever that 'it' is). I was merely pointing out that every religion claims to be the only true one. As for "outsiders" about whom you seem to know, you are probably aware that Humans evolved in Africa and spread out to the rest of the world in two waves of migration. The mass movement into the Indian Subcontinent took place some 70,000 years before present. In that sense all of us in India today are the progeny of "outsiders". Whatever knowledge Hinduism contains could not help it to defend itself against the hordes of conquerors who cam at will and converted almost one third of Hindus to other religions. They also took away huge chunks of land and today you have Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. If the Hindu system was so great why did Hindus become slaves for close to a thousand years? Once upon a time the entire land mass of south east Asia was Hindu. Today Indonesia is 90% Muslim, Philippines is 80% Christian and most others are combinations of Animism, Tribalism and some Buddhism. If Hindu knowledge was so great it could easily have either prevented this mass conversion and today Hinduism would have been the largest religion. That it was so easy for "outsiders" to mass convert so many Hindus has some pointers for you. But I bet you will blame "outsiders" instead of any critical self examination. This always happens to people who shamelessly use all things western like cell phones, computers and internet and still blame "outsiders" for all their own weaknesses and defects. The same is the case with you. I suggest you stop using the internet too as it was created by "outsiders". I know you won't. Why? Because all of us Indians are like those who bite the hand that feeds it and lick the boot that kicks it. Only hollow pride, supremacism and absolutely no self respect. Just like you. Who prevented you from building large hadron colliders and prove that Vedas have Particle Physics in them. Who prevented Hindus from defending their own culture and lands and people from becoming Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs. By the way the Jains, the Buddhists and the Sikhs do not consider themselves as Hindus. They consider themselves different. Now that people like you are forced to enjoy all things western, the only thing you are reduced to doing is whine like children whose sweets are taken away. But I guess that does not matter to people like you who would rather claim that everything was in the Vedas, without lifting a little finger to pioneer all those imaginary claims like you are making. Have a nice day. And remember that according to Hinduism, 'ahamkaaram' (an exaggerated sense of self worth) is the largest stumbling block to knowledge. But I have my doubts if you can understand that.

@Meena Khandelia Your level of education, general and specific knowledge, of Hinduism and other "-isms" is astounding. Congratulations! So Dr Ambedkar who is probably less educated and knowledgeable than you converted to Buddhism. Probably his IQ was not in the same league as yours. You have broken completely new ground by making the astounding discovery that Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism are part of Hinduism. But unfortunately the Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs are not endowed with your level of erudition and so they think that their religion is not part of Hinduism. And you make India proud by suddenly discovering that "thousands" of "our" inventions, without naming even a single one. I am sure you are busy with your study of Hinduism, particle physics and history leave you with no time to mention a single invention made by Hinduism in particle physics. I request you to kindly enlighten us with how Hindus of the Vedic ages invented the "thousands" of things which you are very careful to avoid mentioning. Please tell us about the head transplants and test tube babies which our illustrious Vedic scientists managed to achieve. In your vast forays into these esoteric fields would have (I am not very sure though) no doubt discovered the greatness of untouchability, caste system and other great Hindu contributions to human progress. My heart is broken when I realize that Hinduism is not "rigid" - especially seeing as to how highly intelligent and wise people such as you can bend it to your will. It appears that Hinduism is like a sheet of tin, which you can shape and form depending upon one's level of (un)education. I realize that Hinduism was so great that it allowed every mughal tom, dick and ghazni to enslave tens of thousands of Hindus and sell them in the slave markets of Baghdad. Indeed, after your brilliant reply (I love the all caps trick which you might have learnt by studying the Vedas- I must say) I realized how great it is to lose one third of our lands and people to Islam and Christianity. Now after going through your brillian all caps essay on Hinduism, I have learnt so much thet I need to fall at your feet and worship you. I am sure, with scientists like you, we will soon achieve pushpaka vimanas, head transplants (which I think many Hindus - not you though - need badly) and parakaya pravesam. I am sure one day a great scholar like you will also discover the sanjivini so that all of us will become immortal, thanks to the tireless efforts of scientists and scholars like you. Thanks for enlightening me. I request you to dim the lights because it might blind many people and I am sure you don't want blind Hindus. I think that if people like you were alive during the Ghaznavid period, king Jayapala might not have had such a humiliating defeat that he committed suicide. I am very sad that a scholar of your standing has not been given due recognition by this ignorant world. I am sure in future you will win many laurels, geraniums and marigolds for our great Hindu Culture. Have a nice day. And keep up with your ground breaking studies to educate more and more people like me. Then I am sure you will have many more subscribers.

Your amazing mensa grade intellect simply shines through the muck you pound out on your keyboard. Keep it up. You have a wonderfully constructed argument which leaves no scope for any disagreement. Your infinite capacity for self delusion coupled with an obsessive compulsion for virtue signalling probably indicates an acute deficiency of any virtue in you. Why don't you come out with the next mind bending theory of quantum gravity. The Vedas already have laid it out on a platter for you. You seem to have it in you. I am sure with a little bit of grunt and heave ho, you can find this theory already presented in some other holy book if not the Veda. As you have already discovered the truth and you know Hinduism better than all the rest of the Hindus I am sure quantum gravity will be just a walk in the park for you. Just go ahead and do it. Like Nike. So why don't you just go home and cook yourself some crispy finger chips and catch up on the puranas? I 'hope' you have not used up all your brain cells in becoming a seeker. I hope you still have a couple of brain cells to spare. Why don't you go home and sleep it off? I am sure you will be better in the morning. Good luck.

everyone talks about big bang explosion but I am curios to know how the big ball was formed where did matter come from to form big ball of universe and how did all matter come together to form a ball, where did the energy come to hold the matter together where did all empty space come from for all of it to expand, if empty space existed before how did this empty space form, our science talks about matter but not about space what is size of the space of universe, is it truly 13.7 billion years a true number without knowing if there was really a ball of matter come together to form big ball, but if so why did it come to form a ball. for all these things to happen we need energy where did all come from and who created laws of universe and the knowledge that exists in the universe where did it all come from.

Start bit --->Data containing messages--->Parity Bits----> stop bit. This is a digital data communication format. Any engineer who has studied DSP will know this. See the similarity with Hindu mantras. “Om Namah Shivay Om”. Om indicates the start bit, Namah Shivay-the data containing messages and finally, Om again indicates the Stop Bit showing the end of messages. The parity bit is optional. All European discoveries are a copy of Indian works. ISRO chief is correct. Indian mantras in Sanskrit can even communicate with God if properly chanted.
