To me, FRWL was better than Goldfinger since it’s much more intense and dangerous. Bond knows he’s walking into a trap and he wants to spring it, having to face tough challenges like fighting Red Grant when he’s as clever and as strong as he is. Where in Goldfinger, Bond remains in incarceration for about half the film and he kind of sucks at his job (Both the Masterson girls end up dead because of him and his gadgets fail). To me, FRWL is just more exciting since Bond is an active player in a plot that’s so obvious a trap set for him.

The most dangerous time for a military helicopter is when it's motionless and that's why helicopter ground attacks are very fast strafing runs. No matter how tough the armour is, they still have those exposed rotors. When the enemy are unarmed and you're in a helicopter though, it is inexplicable why they don't hover. Like the opening of the Thing where the Norwegian pilot Matias doesn't stop and hover so Lars can get a steady, clear shot. (Not that it would have done anything)

Actually, I had misremembered this scene as him shooting the guy through the cockpit glass, but on a rewatch, it seems he pops the guy in the shoulder as he's leaning out to toss the grenade. It clearly doesn't kill the dude, who then drops his grenade in the aircraft. So while I do think it's a little convenient that dude dropped his grenade in the floor rather than out of the helicopter (though maybe he recoiled from the bullet impact THEN dropped it), I don't see that it's that unbelievable. In an in-character context, Bond got lucky that his only shot proved decisive. No caliber-related problems that I see.

I would help him by running with the lector while drawing their attention by shouting "Hey hey!" While waving my arms and also make funny faces while shouting "na na na na na!" Meanwhile, he would fix his rifle in a safe place and I would draw the helicopter right to where we want it.

As Bond runs away from the burning helicopter, notice the other guy wearing the same clothes hunched over moving behind the rocks. My guess is the runner is his stunt double and Connery is the other guy hiding.

They cut the scene where Bond shoots dead the pilot of a U-2 high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft flying at 70,000ft with his AR-7. 😁

This was a great scene when the movie was originally made. Today it’s just kind of ludicrous

I never knew Seth Green was in From Russia With Love. Just kidding, this film was definetly Dr.No turned up to 11 action wise. So many sequences

One thing I don't get about this scene:- Was the SPECTRE helicopter sent out because they had found Grant's body on the train and were going to investigate the truck? OR Was SPECTRE's plan always going to be that they would ambush Grant once he had the Lector, kill him and take it back to Blofeld via helicopter? (in which case, why did they have the boat there ready for him?)
@timothyromero90372 жыл бұрын
The helicopter was supposed to meet with Grant, presumably to exchange the Lektor. You can see when Bond's driving the men in the helicopter are trying to signal him to stop, thinking that it was Grant in the car. When the car doesn't stop, that's when they figure out it's not Grant driving it, and so they start attacking.

I actually just read that if you pulled a grenade pin with your teeth, you would more than likely end up losing them; that grenadier in the helicopter would pretty much be toothless right now with all the ones he lobbed at the truck XD

Paying tribute to North by Northwest at 1:19...Kinda dumb really, I mean, what are they actually doing to harm Bond? Why did Spectre send out a helicopter anyway??? One slightly faster truck could have done the trick.

Two different helicopter explosions. One with the skids blown off hanging down and the other with them intact.

When bond shoot the chopper out the sky I think the music is top notch. It's ashame that version of the song isn't on any soundtrack
