I adopted my son from Russia in 2002 the best thing I ever did. I traveled to Kazakhstan and spent 5 weeks getting to know my new son I wish there was a way I could connect with these twins as they seem as happy and well adjusted as my son. Adopting my son was the best thing I ever did for the both of us.

God Bless these wonderful girls and their family. My wife and I adopted a four year old girl from Bulgaria eight years ago, and it has changed our lives. Adoption is not only a blessing for the child, it is a positive live changing experience for the parents. I feel so sad since Puten halted adoptions to the US years ago. Using it as a political weapon against our country. Most Russian orphanages are horrific.

Also even in the UK here and in the USA outcomes for children in care and homes is very very poor.,in the UK which is fairly well off if you are in care you are more likely to go to prison than university. Families have in recent years expressed interest in taking their now older adopted Russian children to back Russia for a visit to their orphanage, city or extended biological family. While this visit can have positive benefits for these children, adoptive parents should factor into their planning the realities of their children’s Russian citizenship. In effect, Russian children adopted American parents hold dual citizenship in both the US and Russia. Russian children adopted and living in the US as American citizens are still considered by Russian authorities to be Russian citizens only. When these Russian-born children travel to Russia, they must do so on a valid (non-expired) Russian passport rather than in their US passport with a Russian visa. According to Russia’s federal law “On citizenship,” every Russian citizen with dual citizenship is treated by the Russian Federation and its authorities as a citizen of Russia only. Anyone who emigrated from Russia to the USA, even if by adoption, in 1992 or later, is still a Russian citizen unless specific steps have been taken to renounce the individual’s citizenship. Children adopted from Russia remain Russian citizens until they are 18 years of age, at which point they can choose to renounce citizenship. If no steps are taken to renounce citizenship, Russian citizenship is retained by default. Russian law does NOT forbid carrying US citizenship as well as Russian. However, Russian law does not officially recognize dual citizenship, either. Russia requires their citizens, including those holding dual citizenship, to enter Russia with Russian passport only. Russian citizens may not receive a student (or any other) visa. It is illegal for a Russian citizen to enter Russia on a visa. If someone decided to renounce Russian citizenship he should take to the account that the process of renouncing can take at least 6 months. To renounce Russian citizenship, one must have a valid (not expired) Russian passport. Renewing a Russian passport usually takes an additional 3 months. If someone in this dual-citizen situation is planning to study abroad in Russia at any point, or simply travel to Russia, this issue should be addressed to the Consulate as soon as possible. For further information please contact Citizenship Section at: Email: otdelgrdc@gmail.com fax: (202) 939-8909

It hurts my heart to hear how many people believe that our dead loved ones are looking over us and that they are in a conscious state in heaven. No offense. I’m glad the international adoption closed. They would have been able to be educated and were well taken care of in the orphanage. If they wanted to go to college, they could have in Russia. The adoptive mother was selfish for her reasons for adoption. The twins seem very very skeptical doing this interview. The parents divorced right?? What happened in the household for them to divorce? Adoptions to the USA benefits we got were an adjusted income and living in a free country. That is it. They really need to stop trying to show success stories from the parents side, losing a loved one is not a reason to go take children out of there countries. Could have adopted domestically. Most adoptive parents during 1991-2012 were racist, because they wanted healthy white children instead of fostering in the USA. I could go on but keep this damn thing closed
@FreshPine-cz2sq Жыл бұрын
"were racist, because they wanted healthy white children instead of fostering in the USA." Wow, you really jumped off the ledge with this comment. How is it racist to adopt White children? Even if they adopted in the U.S. it doesn't mean they would have adopted a black child. They adopted from Russia, not Nigeria, you didn't seriously think they would bring back black kids, did you? Nothing wrong with wanting a child that resembles you btw, it is easier psychologically to accept the child as your own if they at least vaguely look like you. If you listened properly it was a person at the orphanage who suggested that they meet the girls when they saw the adoptive mom. The person at the orphanage probably thought that the twins resembled her. It is hard enough adopting a child from another country and making sure that they keep their heritage, without also having to factor race into it. There are many stories of black kids who were adopted by White families having self-esteem issues because they look nothing like their adoptive parents or they later said that their parents didn't truly understand them because of difference in race, or couldn't do their hair properly. I agree with you on one point though, it is a good thing that Russia stopped adoptions to America, even though these girls got lucky and were raised by good people, there were far too many instances of Russian children being mistreated by their new American parents, some even wound up dead.
