I really resonate with the point about resisting, after a year with long covid, I'm now at the point where I'm tuned into my body and can really feel the resistance in it. I will also try welcoming and embracing it and being more comfortable with the uncomfortable. I think I was there a few months ago, but then I made progress and forgot - and now that my symptoms have flared up again, stress and fear kick back in, with the feeling of going backwards. It's not a linear journey and I'm working on letting go of all unhelpful beliefs. I'm learning so many things on this journey, that will make me better off going forwards - so I'm also very grateful 🙏🏽 Thank you very much Kyle and Raelan! ✨

The comments you both made about weeks before getting sick, you had a self reflection and wasn’t happy with who you were or where you were at in life. The same happened for me. I actually had done a video of myself talking about it! I have said it was divine intervention, bc otherwise without the hard stop of developing long covid I would not have changed. Of course I’m still in the trenches of it one year post covid, but at least I’m back to feeling hopeful that I will recover and it has given me a different perspective on my purpose.

Not a complete recovery ,but I'm a little better with each round of this relapse period. I've had LC for a year. I am still suffering, but I have made a lot of progress.i still have to rest a lot but not as much as the first 9 months. So inspiring to hear how he was able to use this opportunity to become such an enlightened being and shed his ego. It really is a blessing in disguise looking at it that way, and it seems to be a recurring theme in a lot of recovery stories on here. Like Long Covid and CFS is showing us how our Western, self-centered lifestyle is completely not sustainable and causing us to hit a wall. And unless we learn to let go of our identification with thought, pain, and other sensations, we will stay stuck in this vicious cycle.
@daveuk13248 ай бұрын
This is an inspiring and empowering conversation, but I think it could be confusing for many people who remain stuck in illness. Here's how I think about it more from a mechanistic or physiological view, in case that helps others. The nervous system and the immune system are deeply inter-connected. Much of LC is caused by excessive on-going systemic inflammation which is mediated by the immune system. If you calm the nervous system (using all the strategies Kyle used in this YT), you also calm the immune system which in turn quietens the inflammation which in turn reduces stress on the body which in turn allows healing to happen and symptoms to abate. It's absolutely NOT all in the head - the symptoms are real and terrible for many of us. BUT it really is the power of mind over matter, because the mind has control over the nervous system, including the autonomic nervous system. Obviously, some unfortunate people have organ damage from Covid, say lung or heart damage and that is something more serious that will usually show up in standard medical tests. But so many of us suffer this ongoing systemic inflammation, and we do have a choice over controlling that, but only if we take action as Kyle did. I'm not saying it's easy. It takes time and perseverance and it's not a linear process. Some days or weeks will be better than others. But overall healing will happen if you let it. Don't rush or push. And try to learn and benefit from the experience, just as Kyle did. I am not a medic but I have lived through it and recovered so I suspect what I have said isn't very far off, and I hope it helps others. Wishing you all the best.

First off I want to say I love your channel Raelan and it’s helped me so much. But I have to say I have a lot of problems with the way language is used in this episode. First off, when he says that normal exercise symptoms like soreness could be what we are actually experiencing and we are blowing it out of proportion.. I can’t describe how invalidating that is. I’ve told myself many many times not to be afraid of exercising, and yet the symptoms I get are not even close to normal fatigue. I literally feel my nervous system go haywire and I feel like I want to die for days. It’s really minimizing our struggle and making us sound like people with mental illness to the outside world. Second of all, yes all these strategies do work over time. But whose to say it’s because of fear that causes them in the first place? The strategies like increasing over time could work for numerous reasons aside from reducing fear. We still don’t know what causes this illness and I really don’t think it was fear that brought me here. Fear makes it worse for sure. But I tried months to live a normal life before I even knew what CFS was, before I even had a reason to be scared. When I first started having symptoms of long covid my heart wouldn’t slow down for hours after I took a bike ride. I wasn’t focused on it and I wasn’t scared , even when I meditated it didn’t help. Something happened to my body and my system when I got covid and after 15 months it’s finally getting better. But I really disagree that it was just fear that got me here because even when I was trying to ignore my symptoms in the beginning they got worse.
@francescam.6999 Жыл бұрын
I had the same reaction. It was not my fear that made me ill. For me it was the overstimulation and a hypersensitiv nervous system. But I loved the interview anyway. I think we have to differantiate between fear and stress respond of the body. Fear is in the mind and the stress respond is in the body. My fear grew over time and it put more stress to my nervouse system. So I agree that dealing with the fear is an important part of recovery. I think it is not easy to find words that are validating our experience and don't diminish it.
@meredithgarrett83627 ай бұрын
I have to agree, I find most of these long Covid videos frustrating to watch to be honest. As someone who was previously healthy four years ago and is now barely able to be comfortable in my body and on a slew of meds to keep me even somewhat comfortable these videos are actually very upsetting. I’ve watched so many of them and nearly every guest basically just relates their recovery to mindset. I do believe that mindset can help you achieve your goals but to have a dedicated video about someone beating a debilitating physical illness then say it’s all because of retraining your thoughts or overcoming “fear” is bs and actually so cruel to the people out there looking for actual help. You sit there and watch the whole video to see how they got out of this miserable place and they just tell you retrain your brain and stop being afraid, wow what a slap in the face.

I’ll be honest; this one didn’t resonate with me. He seems like a great guy. But it sounds like he went from one extreme of avoiding to something almost sounds like the discredited graded exercise therapy in not listening to flare up symptoms. Maybe it’s just the way it was presented and there’s more nuance to it that I’m missing out on. But from everything I’ve read and watched and experienced, pacing and preventing PEM is key. And anything that disregards symptoms is potentially harmful.
@joeblack7841 Жыл бұрын
I agree but it totally depends on the person. Some people dont have as much PEM and graded exercise seems to help them recover. Other people become bed bound by it. Raelan (the video creator) herself has another video where she says that in the end working through the sickness with careful excesise helped her. Long Covid is such a complicated mass of unknowns.

Very surprised to hear this kind of logic from someone who had long covid. Exercising promotes circulation of the monocytes carrying the spike protein around the body, that's where the inflammation comes from. And most people with long covid dont get better with just what is described here: slowly ramping up the level activity? And acceptance, meditation etc.. glad it helped you, but it never worked for the vast majority of long covid peeps i read about.
