Society uses shame to ensure conformity. But what if a person can’t conform because of his or her neurology? What if a person is hard-wired to experience and manage her world in a fundamentally different way?
The only known antidote to shame is pride. It is required to accept yourself and develop a sense of who you are. It is hard to be different from most other people; taking pride in your differences is the first step toward navigating the world successfully. ADHD and learning differences come with challenges, but adults and kids with these conditions also have a host of special talents, abilities, and gifts. It is out of ignorance and fear that people ridicule and diminish those of us who are differently wired, too often robbing us of the chance to thrive and contribute to the world. It is time to band together to stare down stigma - one person at a time.
In this hour-long ADHD Experts webinar replay, learn how to embrace your ADHD and learning differences, with Ned Hallowell, M.D., and William Dodson, M.D.

I like being who I am as a human being. I am happy with my personality. Though there are some things I'd like to change... like being on time, being organized, talk less and softer as I tend to get loud when I talk, and not procrastinate! Thanks for this webinar!!

It is relatively easy to stand up to overt shaming. The harder part is dealing with the silent looks of disapproval, and subtle social ostracism. Being late is considered by many people to be straight up narcissism.

My issue there also was the "verbal" good morning greetings. They were used as a means to force acknowledging to the greeting giver, a solid "head check" you were at your desk already going to work. It was agonizing in my later years.

The trouble with shame, especially for an ADHD individual who is oppositional, is that they are invested in compensatory or avoidant strategies to not confront the shame no matter the cost to themselves and their relationships.

I did not find the center helpful in nyc. Met dr Ned. He was very glib as I was struggling myself and with my son. This was 18 years ago. Very expensive to see him. I felt shamed and helpless to help my son. I had read his book. Childhood was hell. My son got a neck tic from adhd drugs. My son is thriving now w systems and exercise and WFPB diet no sugar, no gluten, he graduated college w a degree in business , marketing and analytics now getting his mba. He has a successful startup company, works for and highly valued by a major company, he mentors kids in the Bronx for 4 years who have successful businesses. We did everything to save his life so glad we made it to this day.

Imo..you are on the money...re Ned..I am so glad you have helped your son....heartfelt blessings. I am new to learning about ADHD...but I have had a lifetime of dealing with narcopaths...malignant, covert, overt etc and it's my considered opinion that the other guy Bill Dodson..is worse...he constantly.. refers to people who don't understand ADHD.....AS "flat earth idiots" ...he has done that in this video and other videos. Easy to check btw it's up there for all to see...I personally don't know whether we live on a spinning ball ..inside a snow globe or on a flat realm...but to call people who don't know the truth about ADHD.. "flat earth idiots" is beyond me.... Some of us are just learning about ADHD...and are doing our best to catch up...that is downright abusive...and not conducive to helping people learn He IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT HE ACCUSES OTHERS OF ......Abusing people for thinking differently... ...To anyone who is just working this stuff out and realising who you are...please don't waste your time watching this video..These 2 people are megalomaniacs..sending you up....ADDItude needs to start screening these people ..ahh no ....its their channel...so they can do what they like. Anyway for anyone who's still reading this..I don't know how to how tell you how smart, funny you are...you are not mad...nor you are crazy ...

Since when is "being passionate" adhd? Do you guys have braindamage?
@JnTmarie
@JnTmarie Жыл бұрын
Keep that edge it may protect you from pain or just cause more. Passionate May mean you can’t stop working on an idea and show up where you said you would like work. Passionate May mean you insult people and lose compassion and common courtesy and look like you have brain damage because your brain isn’t staying conscious of the outside world
