I was 4 years old when this was passed. My dad lived during Jim Crow. Now, our right to vote is being threatened. It has been just under 60 years.

As a legal citizen, you have the right to vote. With destricting, your vote may not have equal power as others, but you still have the right to vote. Edit: redistricting*

Can we get Chief Justice Roberts to listen to this speech? It seems he never heard it because he played a huge role in dismantling the Voting Rights Act.

According to the legislation, the VRA was never meant to be permanent but rather gradually phased out. It's been nearly 6 decades and no one is denied their right to vote

The GOP is stopping the teaching of slavery and offering prison time for any teacher or librarian who has such books, as 35 states have now introduced a bill that would restrict and regulate the way that teachers or university faculty discuss issues of slavery.

It's sad that we have not had the same amount of progress when it comes to voting rights and police reform today. It seems like Black people are under attack and a lot of people are feeling apathy towards government and politics. I talked about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZorCinSBjJ51pqM

LBJ was a known racist. The south (heavily democrat party followers) wouldn't recognize the 15th amendment. He did this because some of the followers of MLK started the a third political party known as the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party in 1964. This got National attention, and forced LBJ to sign the act. Other states (heavily Republican party) didnt have this issue.

@@joeblow527 hmm joeblow, that's an interesting opinion. i'm a professional historian though, so i don't make politicians my "hero." Giving accolades to a president for delivering a great speech while signing such a monumental historic bill is different from idolizing him. Every one of them has been dynamic with problems. No human being is worthy of that kind of worship.
