From The Depths Engines & Power Tutorial

Some textures have been updated but tutorials is still up to date as of autumn 2021! While fuel engines are generally more efficient you can also use custom jet engines in order to generate power which rightfully has been pointed out here and elsewhere, CJTs can generate power on a small space, but I would still recommend them for when you also want them as thrust, this we will cover in future videos!

The thing of eletric engines + RTGs is they are more reliable and modular than the other engine types. Steam basically stops working and fuel engines can overheat if they are damaged; also all three (counting custom jet generator) can only be built in a straight line. Eletric engines can be built in any shape, lose batteries and you can have some backup eletric engines attached to the same batteries on other spot. The downside is that... You basically need now another engine to recharge the batteries. ^^" That being said, its a good short tutorial. FtD content creators usually make hour long videos (specially tutorials XD), so seeing one short is a breath of fresh air.

Good tips, I need to experiment more with electics and RTGs to be able to do good tutorials on those parts. And I feel the same about tutorials so I even started another series with my instant tutorials that aim to be even shorter and well thought through.

You can make a steam engine that has 0 pipes on it (and thus no weak points) that generates 200,000 power

If the engine power output in lower right corner that never goes below 1000 / 3000, does that mean i have 1000 power that is not beeing used and i can make the engine smaller?

Yes, or add something that takes a lot of power like lasers or decoys but make sure to test how much it uses during battle first

1. The jet thrusters on your planes wings are not going to be efficient at all because the wings on top are blocking the thrust out put. 2. You did not go over using custom jet engine for producing power or using it to charge batteries. 3. Fuel engines have you exactly the right amount of power when you need it. To my knowledge this is harder to do with steam. Steam isn't flexible enough to handle rapidly fluctuating power demands unless you have a very specialized setup. 4. Batteries are useful especially in the late game because rail guns, pacs, and believe that shields require them to reduce damage from incoming lasers.

I got the blocks with holes in them to let the thrust pass through on the wings though. Forgot the cjt as just engines, damn Will cover more about pacs and stuff in later tutorials :)

Well one does pick up material from wasted enemy vessels so I guess!
