Very stable, pinpoint turning and twitchy control response. You might want to consider training up pilots now. RTB." He did pull some helicopter pilot crap on the way back as well. Because why not?

Lath, the shield issue is due to the low angle of incidence. Shields can't deflect something that hits them exactly perpendicular and the deflection chance is (at least partially) based on how far away from perpendicular the angle of incidence is.

Shields like obtuse angles. Changing the direction to be straight forward or pointed more downward should help.

In other words, if it strikes at an angle and does not strike it flatly, there is a high chance of the shot glancing off instead of penetrating.

Id love to see lath do the mother ship challenge. Campaign mode: neter Its basically you have 1 main craft with no volume limit and it broadcasts detection info. The rest of the craft are 2000 or under volume that need the mother ships detection to aim and MUST be moved along with the mother ship. Only 1 mother ship allowed and cheats must be used to summon most mother ships. You can challenge yourself and make a default mother ship then slowly upgrade it with retrofits from sandbox builds

If you want laser guided missiles, you could build a heavily armored, unarmed helicopter with a ton of detection systems. Or you could modify your old quadcopter drones and cover them in detection systems.

At short ranges, you could use a simple laser on a 2-axis turret below the helicopter. It wouldn't be exceddingly powerful, but could add some anti-armour firepower. I say "could" instead of "would" because the helicopter may not be able to aim it properly.

I also have a vehicle suggestion: A PAC bomber, intended to hunt down small, fast targets using an EMP shot. Maybe go for a faster-firing, weaker PAC to add some flavour to the design.

Most modern helicopters use jet engines technically. Military grade ones that is.They're just not so powerful that it flies with just those

Turboshaft engines, they have an extra turbine in the exhaust that converts thrust into mechanical power that turns the rotor blades. They make very little jet thrust, but the mechanical power is far better than a piston engine of the same weight.

Too bad you can't make missile launchers have more barrels like the normal advanced cannons. It'd be awesome to have rapid fire rocket pods

You can ad more "barrels" by hawing more missile launch pads in - and use staggered fire to make them not launch all at once.. It would be nice however to have speed loaders you can attach to missile systems.. Currently each launch pad reloads one missile part in certain time so the time the missile is reloaded depends entirely on how big missiles are used. Say you wanted big missiles and smaller missiles to launch always at the same time -that could be done by adding speed loaders to the launcher that fires the bigger missiles. On the other hand you might also want to slow down the missile reload speed to conserve ammo - so a controller block that can disable missiles reloading when low on ammo could be useful too. Perhaps even cheap non reloading launchpads could be an option if you want sort of more realistic missiles that basically shoot only once in a combat. Of course missile launchpads that fire multiple small rockets could be possibility but that would ad some "spam" and complexity.

Lathrix! Build a vehicle that represents chaos itself! What it does is, it changes its geometry constantly, using spin blocks to change its geometry chaoticly and randomly, and possibly changed orientation to "dodge missiles/bullets. Smoke all over it(So it looks like a rave lord and resists laser) and maybe detachable /reattachable parts with the spinblock based areas as well!

I think the heli deserves a really cool lore. naming it the thunder-scrap. it was a former spotter heli in the steel empire, long ago the empire, finding its thunder-cloud spotter heli fleet obsolete, allowed the public to enjoy they them, but as the last one was taken, all of them were sold for scrap. and now, after years of gathering dust, you find it mostly intact, but unarmed, and missing its tail. so you fix it, and arm it with missiles, ready to fight, and brought back into the skies once more.

Modern turboshaft helicopters have their jets near the rotors, since they drive the rotors. You could've also gone the route of the Sikorsky X2 (Now the S-97 Raider) and had a visible propeller on the rear of the aircraft, the X2 having a top speed of 299 mph (481.1 km/h).

Ooh, never thought of using minimum range on missiles before. Could help a lot with failed volleys from the air. If you go for an AC version maybe something like the two-axis 36m turrets on the Vulture from SS. It's also hilarious that this chopper is 1/4 the cost of my one with 5 shields, a 1600 engine, only 6 similar missiles and just as vulnerable to cram hits...

@Lathland helicopters with beam rider thumper launchers. Yep, not that good against fast and agile targets, but against slow and armored its just scary. Its just row of huge explosive hits with 100% accuracy and a little bit kinetic. Just try and you will love them :D But such heli will need more stable flight and advanced dodge capability.

I have a turret less tank with an advanced cannon taking up most of the internal space. Then I replaced the cannon with a CRAM can onto see its power. When I spawned a Bison and put the tank far away, the tank managed to destroy most of it with one shot hitting the top of the Bison. It's quite powerful.

In my experience this campaign is like the Germans in the 1940's. I make medium and light tanks that are very successful and are all not too hard to produce. I try to make 1 heavy tank, and the entire program fails and I lose the campaign. Sound familiar? Anyways all of these smaller and medium designs are things that are great for the campaign. Keep up the good work! Edit: Watching the video now and the design of the helicopter at my point looks like a mini-pelican.

Entry n°2: As I presented my new version of the Vulcan auto-cannon, the Terran workshop required all engineers to provide technology from each faction to cram in a new helicopter. Because of prize limitations, the design was fit with missiles, but our leader Lath' also wanted a gunship and well I'm a master of machine guns and auto-cannons. Note to self: these scrap limits to respect are killing me. It's been 3 days as well... I was still not done with the tetris of this copter when the other version was finished. It flew like a charm but its gracious movement was enough to deter the small arms fire of the Watch. It has it all: the armour of the Watch, the rotors of the Steel Scums, the missiles of the Gypsies and the shields of the Hoods. This deadly sky ballerina was quickly commissioned and though no attacks have been sent by the Gypsies or the Hoods yet, it still patrolled the skies on the lookout for filthy infiltrators. I was quick to notice it's buzz whenever it passed by, and therefore I since then named it the Sand Wasp. Maybe it's the shots they gave me on that Onyx Watch celebration, Christmas I believe it's called. I am a Flayer after all. Harmohnter Fisihils, White Flayer engineer.

I would love to see a mobile mortar, or a plane that has two missile bays and a small advanced cannon mini gun that almost sprays weak “shots” mainly ruining the enemies fuel/energy supply if it has shields, or the advanced cannon could be a decoration piece if the previous idea doesn’t work

Lathrix ive got a sugestion for future small land/air craft (i have no clue how practical this would be cause im crap at building) If the helicopters cant detect much themselves you could make a comand craft on the basis of the tank wich could detect enemies improving the aim of the helicopters saving volume and internal space while making it more accurate. This could also justify making the a bit powerfull because said comand craft if destroyed would cripple the helicopters.

you could always have a helicopter team of 2-3 missle helis per 1 laser designator heli. that way the laser designator can have a proper detection system instead of having to cram it in with other weapons

hey lath ever think you can make a tutorial about detection system but more in-depth? like explaining what is best for each weapon and some of their different set ups. what is the minimum detection equipment needed for these weapons and the recommended if one can afford or fit it in. also what adjusting the detection system's config does to the detection system

Lathrix, since you sped the chopper up and you tested the shield when it was mostly stationary, I think you will find the shield is actually not that useful. Reflect shields have a debuff the faster they travel, not to mention you're only covering the front... I suppose it may help with the initial attack run. They're cheap enough that you probably don't care anyway, but I thought I'd mention it...

Not to try and give you too much "foreign" influence to your design, but have you ever seen the fixed cannon used by the MI-24P "Hind F"? It's a double-barreled 30mm cannon bolted to the side of the aircraft's fuselage near the cockpit. At this point it'd be more of an optional backup weapon for your 'choppers, but I think it looks neat and might make for a nice, compact alternative to the droopy-looking "chin gun" you see on a lot of other attack helicopters.
