It’s really interesting to see how people, with different styles of building in game, can have different opinions of how difficult any type of craft is. I mean, it’s obvious but it’s still interesting.

This was *exactly* what I was looking for after coming out of the tutorials and being completely uncertain how big of a build to start with, whether to go with something small and compact to experiment quickly with different systems or a bigger one to give me plenty of room to built stuff in. I've got a much better idea where to focus now.

This game does have a giant learning curve
@comet.x4 жыл бұрын
What curve?
@nineroad53014 жыл бұрын
There is no curve, its a cliff, super hard but once over its all a flat line since you now know a fully functioning ship
@helyushd69434 жыл бұрын
I always refer to a solid brick wall... there is no curve xD
@Dylan-ln6qt4 жыл бұрын
@@helyushd6943 it's like a curve to me, just that the curve has a slope of infinity, since no matter how much you learn there will always be more, no matter how much you climb the learning curve you'll never see the end...
@helyushd69434 жыл бұрын
@@Dylan-ln6qt well, a curve with a slope of infinity is not a curve. A function is a system that maps all x values on one y value each only. But whatever this nightmare is, it is about explosions, so it’s fun. xD

I have over 600hours in FtD so far and have never build a (well) functioning Airship or Skimmer xD. Also i had no Idea that you can refill and repair you vehicle with the Q-Menu. And only recently i found out that you can instantly change your Ammunition of APS by taking the vehicle out and Into Play again. In FtD you never stop learning :D

200-300k mats is kind of my sweet spot for builds. Just enough freedom to build what you want, but also cheap and small enough to not be frustrated with building it.

As one of those ultra rare FtD flybois who barely can into PIDs, most of my machines are on the cheaper end.

also, I cam here because of borderwise, and its true, you are greatly unapreciated for the amazing work you do. dylan the game has less of a learning curve and more of a learning cliff, covered in sharp spikes.

I think when I get FtD (and a better computer), my first vehicles will probably be Amphibious or aerial ones, the few ideas I had in mind were; A AA truck using an APS or Missiles. A General Tank chassis that can fit several weapon types with little modification, that can more or less last through a full campaign, just it needs to be spammed more then a similar vehicle with a comparable cost. A large "sniper" cannon that can spearhead preferably early-mid game combats, utilizing a Railgun with space for a few secondary armaments. A EMP-PAC Heli armed with Torpedos and a Sonar Buoy/Decoy to Sub Hunt as I don't think many Subs can counter Helicopters, and I think the few that can (if any) are EMP vulnerable. There are a few other ideas but they depend on weather or not if I'm able to flip something like an AA mantlet upside down (I've never seen it done or mentioned if it's possible with the Mantlets) as one of them is a Bomber that focuses more on strafing it's target then actual bombs, however looking at an APS tutorial, while there is one mantlet that might work for it even if I can't flip the AA one upside down, I'm not sure if it'll give me the angle of fire I want especially as part of it would be effectively wasted for the craft, as I don't need the full upward angles for what I need it to do, as the gun on it would need to shoot almost 90 degrees straight down without using anything to tilt the gun that way, be it some form of rotor or otherwise, having played Space Engineers however it does help me grasp FtD a bit easier despite never having played the game, as it has helped, for me to have an idea of what I want from a particular craft before I even start designing it in anyway shape or form.

Personal tip: Use keyboard mode when creating vehicles. It requires some time to get used to as no other game has this control scheme, but it is so much better than mouse mode, both for precision and "mass" building .
@OhmIsFutile4 жыл бұрын
Keyboard mode is useful. I use both. You can press F3 to switch on the fly. You can also tweak your camera's speed in build mode in the options.

This is my own way of building a ship, though it is just a theory and is based on IRL ways in some way First: Build up from the Keel. This is what I thought of doing so and testing out since most of my first "battleships" were as small as a gunboats. The Keel would help you with your sense of scale since the guns are huge below the deck. Second: Build the Citadel with Heavy Armour(Normal Metal if you are building a Destroyer) It helps you to protect the most important part of your ships from fuel to ammo to AI to your Ammo racks of your guns. And third, it will be the bulkheads. The Bulkheads are something most FtD players might have missed when building their large ships. They help control the flotation of your ship even if one bulkhead is to be breached. The rest is up to you

the best things i learned so far is. shaped charge is actually pretty good and electrical engine for powering your vehicle is costly but it is worth it edit: i play it for 4 months now... yeah...

Engines are a complex topic. They can all be worth it in different circumstances. For a new player, just figuring out one engine to get your vehicles working is a good first step. I wouldn't worry about the details early on.

I want to make a functioning slave1 from landing to takeoff, and maybe back but probably not. Buuuut my brain grinds to a halt with planes in this game for some reason. I've been playing ksp and other building games for what feels like decades and this game just seems to hate me when making planes xD So I can only imagine making a transformer in this game. Slave1 is basically just a weirdly shaped harrier jet too.

That's the downside of FTD, afaik a lot of the visual side is programmer art and doesn't look too great, because the game's focused on mechanics and function.
