Bro, really well said. All gun owners (new, average, and experienced) need to hear this. Especially all the ones that feel really comfortable just having a nice and expensive AR setup just sitting in a closet collecting dust

Another thing I'll add (for newer shooters), if you don't have the funds to buy things like Daniel Defense, Eotech, etc, do not feel pressured into making purchases beyond your financial capabilities. There's plenty of options on the market that are capable and reliable but won't break the bank.

Couldn’t agree more with your assessment. I believe the best training for civilian use is well within 100 yards for rifle and 0-25 yards for pistol. For end of the world stuff the distance would change, but for more realistic scenarios, training for home defense and in and around your vehicle would best suit most people. I was an 11B during the GWOT and learned a lot, but a lot of the training I got after that time from “civilian self defense” training courses really broadened my knowledge and skills beyond what I learned in the infantry.

For me personally, i feel for civilian self defense all i need is the rifle i am using and a light/red dot or scope, and i am good. All that other stuff is for competitors or LE/MIL, IMO. I know of people who have defened themselves with the so-called budget firearms, but it saved their lives. You are right about being comfortable in training and people can still do that without over spending. If a person can afford the expensive and they actually use it i am like cool, but buying just to flex and you dont use the equipment nor need it, then just giving money away. Nice video, i was in the Army, but i never talked about what i did, i just dont like any attention, but i wasn't SF KEEP VIDEO coming

Hi there from Ouray, CO! This video came up in my algorithm, and I am very happy about that! You gave some super points here! I am a retired army gunslinger, then took up professional flying after retirement. I get a lot of people asking me about what is the best rifle or pistol to get. My response is pretty consistent…..the best one is the one you have and train with! Eventually after I took up flying, I ended up doing contract flying overseas in support of the military. I can’t tell you how many guys I worked with that were also into guns; some of them had 25-50k in them. During our flights, we get in those philosophical discussions about which one was best. Usually for those guys, I preach affordable systems that can meet their requirements and insist they train the crap out them. Less Gucci…..and more repetitions, both dry and live. Happy holidays to you!

It takes about 1000 repetitions to make it muscle memory, so you're spot on about training. I take my rifle to the range at least once a month to make sure it is still zeroed. And when it comes to a lot of those special operations guys advice, I take it with a big grain of salt. For one I am not nor was I in special operations and two like you said I'm just a regular civilian that won't have the resources and logistic of the military behind me. As far as Black Friday and Cyber Monday I was so tempted to get that Stoeger STR 9 or that SAR 9 with those discounts and money back,

I streamline my equipment bc my wife isn’t as interested in firearms as I am& therefore she isn’t as familiarized as she could be. My Wife & children don’t go to the Range as often as I do. So in SHTF scenario, if something were to happen to me, it is easier for them to grab any weapon we have & defend themselves… optics, slings, lights, weapon safety switch, etc. And I streamline my calibers so that I can stock up on ammo versus having an only a few of a bunch of different rounds. Just my philosophy.
@Luca280Ай бұрын
I think this last bit about less calibers and more ammo is so so smart.

Great video. Another concept I would like to add to your 5 things is inspecting and cleaning. I’m guilty of this and all my guns (besides my shotgun which is still new and haven’t shot enough to dirty it) are dirty. I’m learning tips and tricks to field strip my AK, AR, and other firearms I have. Investing into a good cleaning kit with all the little tools to help you clean and making sure it’s the correct caliber. Other than that, I’m at the point where I cannot afford to waste money and make sure every purchase has a purpose, reason, use, and it’s going to enhance my skill.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I often preach that we should be viewing things through the lens of a prepared civilian. An SHTF will not be like Iraq or Afghanistan. Learn all the military techniques you can but understand that application is based on context. How can these techniques be tweaked and applied to a prepared civilian aspect? What I disagree with is your take on training. You've got it backward. You can learn a lot from KZbin, HOWEVER, the point of taking a class it to be trained on the proper techniques. To have a competent instructor who can diagnose your shortcomings and make the necessary corrections to make you a better shooter and tactician. Then, you take what you've learned and practice that to keep an adequate level of proficiency. I can't tell you how many times I've taken classes or I had to help correct people who've only gotten their "training" through KZbin videos, and they developed bad training scars.
