An amazing book for urgent care that I have used during my clinical is Minor Emergencies: Expert Consult by Philip Buttaravoli. It is clear concise and straight to the point.

I am coming up on my 1 year in UC. My UC is pretty slow, but there is this culture of “speed” that needs to be recalibrated in my opinion. An UC is there because you could not see your PCP and/or you have a stable emergency, yet I find over and over that if someone has to wait more than 20 minutes they leave a bad review or just leave. I wish we could message that an “urgent care” only means we can see you for your concern, but there are others who deserve the same consideration and might be ahead of you. I feel if I’m keeping to 1 patient every 15 minutes, I’m winning. I’m not breaking my spirit or harming my patient because I’m forced to move too fast in order to get a 5 star google review. Nope!

I don't think you are complaining a lot, I'm happy for your honesty because not many people are this open. Also I understand why you don't want people to wait, so you put the charting aside to see and accommodation more patients but girl just keep at it little by little you will get to a day where you not charting at home.

New NP here and I refuse to not enjoy my lunch and pee whenever I want to. Those days where for bedside. I agree with you, pts will have to wait and understand. I'm going to try your tip on charting. See a few, chart on few. Thanks 🤗

I am 6 months in as an urgent care NP and I agree with a lot of what you've said! One thing I might add is make a notebook and take the time to find youtube videos or podcasts referencing subjects you may not be strong in and write down a quick algorithm or step by step as your own resource. This helped me tremendously for pedi, especially antibiotics and alternative choices for allergies along with ortho. We also use Epic and I have the MModal to dictate, which I can load commands onto ("Insert strep instructions"). This has been a huge time saver.

Also- I agree with you trying to see a few then chart on them before seeing more. I do this (usually) with 3 at a time. I prechart what I can (medical HX, chief complaint, VS) and chart the HPI in the room while the patient is talking, even with quick notes it can be quickly changed to be more professional after the fact. When I'm done I just fill in my physical assessment and wrap up my note. As a nurse for so many years, I'm quite done with taking work home or staying after hours to chart and 8/10 days my charting is done before I leave.

Sending you ALL the grace💕 Make them wait girl. Sign your charts then move on to the next patient. We definitely have to take care of ourselves first or we will be no good and doing a disservice to the patients. Sadly, many of the patients will never understand that concept though.

You’re doing great! I’m an RN in primary care and can relate to experiencing the demands from some of these entitled patients. You don’t want to wait 30 minutes? Go to the ER, you’ll be waiting for hours. People expect concierge service without concierge money. Take your time, at the end of the day it’s your license. And those other patients can wait or leave lol.

It's not the patients' fault that medical workers haven't been demanding adequate manning levels and/or employers haven't been providing this. The system purposely sickened the population and programmed minds to seek drugs and doctors for almost everything. It doesn't teach people when to go to the PCP, UC, or ER. Medical facilities have been billing as if every patient is in the wealthy class. Between premiums, co-pays, and deductibles, people with regular insurance are expected to pay much more than concierge prices.

A very informative video. And you are not complaining. You are speaking truthfully, and that is important. We're so geared to be "positive," and that can be harmful because so many things get glossed over and swept under the rug, and that helps no one. Random question, if you need to look something up, do you pull up your books and apps in front of the patient? How do you handle that?

Good Job on your first 30 days Laurie! It’s interesting to hear your side of the story as the provider. When I go into urgent care, I’m always the patient so I never knew what happens “behind the scenes”…seems pretty intense! Seems like one step away from the ER 😂 Keep fighting the good fight (until you can’t fight anymore) many blessings 🇧🇸🇯🇲

I have a question am a new nurse just four months working. I did agency for a week for nursing home I was crying, now am working at a assisted living and I also work at a nursing home for a month. What the best place to work as to new nurse to learn a lot of things. Am a LPN
@fromcnatonp
@fromcnatonp 2 жыл бұрын
My opinion is that to get good experience, I think LATCH is great for that, not nursing home. Not sure where you live and if you can work in a hospital setting, but the LTACH you get vented, trach, pt on telemetry etc. Nursing home nope, you get to pass pills on a med cart for multiple pt most of the time ( not always) The LTACH I have done a supervisor position at and also as a floor nurse, there you get 5-6 pt but the experience is great if you are a new LPN and want really good nursing experience. All the best my dear. Also hospital if you can get into one.
@xiomaragomez6649

The best option is to update your resume and determine your nursing goal. Do you want money over skills & assessment? Inpatient hospital setting will be your best bet for the 2nd option. Good luck.
