Tapping Black Walnut Trees to Make Syrup

So far I’ve learned a lot from you , so thanks for that. I live in Pittsburgh Pa , and never heard of anyone around here trying to make syrup. I just tapped my first 4 Maples ( not sugar maple) , but maple none the less , and am in the process of filling my buckets, so I’m excited to see if its doable around here , and will keep you updated on my progress. Thanks for the inspiration buddy.

Interesting, I didn’t know Black Walnut sap could be made into syrup.

I wouldn’t tap black walnut trees. Way too valuable to be creating damage to them.

I guess if it helps you feel better, you could pay rent to the squirrels who the trees belong to. They're usually reasonable. And remember: the bigger the nuts, the sweeter the sap.

Just practice safe tapping so you spread disease to the tree while you tap that. Then it should be fine.
