My GoTY hands down. I've probably run through the story 10+ times. Not really an accomplishment, but this is the only game for me to have that kind of replayability in a long long time. I just love to play. I'm sure everyone here shares the same sentiment

This was indeed a stacked year for games. I was never expecting AC VI to sweep the awards. But it really was straight disrespect seeing how little it was nominated. I can understand Baldur's Gate doing so well, but AC should have been fighting for best music, best sound design and best game direction. By the literal definition of "Game direction" award, this game hits all those boxes perfectly. There is even an argument for "best voice acting". This game features zero character reveals. Visually. All emotion and expression is purely auditory. Yet everyone did such a great job, I can picture faces behind each voice. That is talent.

technically yes but take note that you can fully remap the controls since Day 1 so it really depends if you like the analog controls for the and trigger buttons since PS1 (I think they are analog...) or use digital inputs by using the face buttons of the controller (since the games doesnt understand how to use the analog sticks until AC3 and Nexus)

Slight correction, AC4, ACFA, AC5 and Verdict Day all follow the same earth, with 5 and it's expansion each being a century after the previous events. It's admittedly not obvious during 5, but Verdict Day features a level with the cradles that you and King bring down when you side with him during FA. There is an argument that this was done for fan service or to hint at the canon ending for gen 4, but Verdict Day delivers once again with it's final boss fight, which is a NEXT from gen 4. I don't want to spoil too much of it here but I'm not sure if it'll matter, you can find footage of it fairly easily here on yt.

If only Battletech/Mechwarrior didnt have rules where you could miss point-blank. Or trip by jumping or kicking. As mentioned in the video it stems from the cultural outlook of mecha. Ive always imagined Battletech the way Armored Core is portrayed. Thats why I got into Heavy Gear. But Armored Core satisfies the builder in me that loves survival games and role-playing games. Plus the "melee only" duels hit that samurai button that hides within each mecha fan.

This game created a yearning in me for good mecha series, a void which hasn't been filled by anything else I've been able to find. Can't see how they could possibly upstage AC6 but I'm looking forward to the future of Armored Core more so than even Souls games.

The success of the souls series and other def helped get armorer core more attention I don’t think they would of gotten the same reception if we didn’t have games like Elden ring sekiro Bloodborne

My only issue with this game is that there's not enough of it. I got all 3 endings, unlocked everything, then deleted my file and did it all again. 3 times. I'd love some multiplayer pve modes and more parts, as well as being able to have melee weapons on both arms. AC6 is some of the most fun I've had with a game in the last 20 years.

So ive always been a guy that had a thing for robots with some of my introductions to mecha itself being voltron,transformers and pacific rim and eventually gundam and other stuff as well, ironically speaking it was daemon x machina which led me to the armored core rabbit hole but due to the past games being on the ps2 or impossible to get online i couldn't play them unfortunately but fast forward to ac6 and man what a game sure it was difficult at times but the more i played the more everything just clicked and i couldn't put it down the customization the progression of being a scrub that was barley making it to a shotgun wielding badass it was awesome and man i wouldn't mind seeing more stuff like this in the future

Absolutely in love with the game just got it yesteday😅 been a gundam fan for decades and I’m so glad I was introduced to armored core. Wish I knew about it sooner (the old games). Big into demon soul type games too so the speed is amazing.

Interesting that you wax on about the history of the mecha genre but never once mention Battletech. That franchise was by FAR the biggest western entry during the 80s and 90s, and has a fairly storied history of games, as well as it's share of controversies. It also had a fairly successful isometric, X-com-ish soft reboot game a few years back, though Catalyst's attempt to get the 1st person wing of the franchise back in business with Mechwarrior 5 kind of fell flat.

its because mechWarrior mechs kinda... sucks they make no sense, they are just bigger and less agile WW2 tanks with legs and fancy shining weapons, mecha just dont make sense at all, but this specific kind of mech is the one who makes even less sense, in armored core they are ultra agile, enough to even dodge bullets and missiles, they at least have a valid excuse for the overal mecha non-sense, but in mech warrior they are just big sitting ducks, they are comparable to armored core MTs or even worse, because even MTs can hit the super ultra agile mecha sometimes, but mech warrior mechs dont even have a stabilizer (Mech Warrior Online experience) like real world modern tanks have, or any kind of targeting computer, they are just a dumb "weapon" design i'd say

Damn son, I'm impressed you managed to make a video all about the lead up and revival of AC6 without even a passing glance at Mechwarrior. I know AC and MW are very different styles of mech, but you know good and well if you're mentioning Virtual-On you should at least give a mention out of respect to Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries which was the game that inspired the whole concept of an independent mecha merc. Like, I'm not even nitpicking here, AC's whole concept from day one of "Independent mercenary (merc faction in MW, as you can hire/fire teammates for missions) in a giant robot that's part of a space war between factions/corporations" isn't original in the slightest. ACs were always meant to handle and look different from the mechs of Mechwarrior, but to deny that both series inspire and take inspiration from the other just comes off as willful ignorance....

The first Armored Core I tried was a rental on PS2 when I was a child. I think it was AC2? Anyway, I couldn't figure out the controls and quit playing during the first mission. Fast forward many years, and I tried ACV. Front Mission 3 is one of my favorite games, so I'm always willing to try out random mecha games. I LOVED the customization, and how controlling the mechs felt, but the story was a mess. And the menus were AWFUL! I got pretty far in, but never finished it. Fast forward even more years, and Dark Souls is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm a Fromsoft believer. Armored Core 6 gets announced. I'm hyped as hell. I go back and play Silent Line and Last Raven while waiting for AC6 to come out. Turns out their fucking awesome. AC6 comes out. Turns out its fucking AWESOME! So I S-ranked everything. Fromsoft is honestly my favorite developer now. Mech fans are eating GOOD, and we have a bright future ahead of us!

I didn't like Armored Core 6. It was pretty disappointing. I gave up around AAP03 Enforcer, and had the story spoiled through osmosis of my friend-group. I absolutely hate the new control scheme, the FCS feels muddy, combat ranges are claustrophobic, ACs feel like men in rubber suits who are slaves to a fighting-game style interruptible animation state machine and the boosting is anaemic with a souls-based recovery delay. Stagger isn't fun. The game is statistically focused rather than being balanced across both statistics and mechanics. As a result it feels like my AC won fights, not me. I'm glad people are enjoying it, but it felt like a nostalgic "greatest hits" of AC built atop Sekiro, rather than trying to genuinely do its own thing and be AC.

energy recovery delay can be mitigated by having a fast regen generator (Dafeng) which makes it feel like gen 5 with scan mode constantly on with a core with a high output spec but thats LIKE WAY WAYYYYY WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY later since you reached the enforcer you can start using the Ephemera core by then which the build actually revolves on that my general complaint is lackluster choice of parts (admitedly its just "new generation" therefore REALLY LACKING of parts selection), and rifles and SMG indeed being anemic AF sure they get the job done but honestly they could be way better :/
