That was an excellent idea Jamie! He's a big guy and the tractor was by far the safest and easiest way to handle this. The tractor is a farm version of a Hoyer Lift. If he ever has a total knee replacement done the tractor will be needed again to get him in the house to avoid the stairs. Great job Jamie!
@gwenmiller92703 жыл бұрын
Only outside though, would a tractor work unless their house was remodeled. Hope he doesn’t have to have knee replacement surgery because he would have to do it one knee at a time and 3 months apart. If both are done he would be referred to a extended care hospital or nursing so he would get physical therapy. I know because I was a nurse and chose the first option and did my own physical therapy after my second knee (I didn’t like the therapist as he would only stay 30 minutes and then leave).
@lindataylor5663 жыл бұрын
He would have to live in the Barnhouse, if had knee replacement.
@peanutsassyathena3 жыл бұрын
@@gwenmiller9270 I’m an RN of 33 years and have had a total knee replacement myself. I know some people get both total knee replacements at the same time, but I don’t recommend that. Trust me, during recovery it makes a world of difference to have one non-surgical leg that’s full weight bearing. Even if the 2nd knee needs surgery too, the non-surgical knee is very helpful to assist in recovery. And - there is no way to be discharged to home if you get both knees done at the same time. You’re looking at being admitted to a skilled bed for Physical Therapy (PT) after hospital discharge. If you have someone to drive you to Outpatient Therapy that’s a great option so you have access to equipment that aids in recovery - it really progressed my recovery quickly to full range of motion and weight bearing. Lester, if you need total knee replacements in the future I’d recommend having a ramp built for easy access to your home. The ramp also helps as people age because steps become a barrier to your own home. Other safety measures such as grab bars for the shower may be needed as well. Lester, you’re a lucky guy, you have Jamie. With her background I’m sure she’ll take all the necessary measures to assist in your safety and recovery. The tractor was a genius idea Jamie! It got the job done and kept everyone safe - no falls and no back injuries.

Okay so I lost my dad 3 yrs ago yesterday to a battle with cancer. My dad was absolutely hilarious and also struggled with medical issues for as long as I can remember. Some of our funniest moments are when my mom and I were helping him through his struggles and he would never fail to make us laugh in uncomfortable situations or times we were genuinely afraid for him. My dad would always do it his way which included driving after appts he definitely shouldn't have, not accepting numbing for procedures etc. We would all laugh later when he would retell stories but some things were very difficult witness. I miss him, the feeling of security and always feeling like I fit in when I went home. If I were ever transplanted somewhere else, I'd pray to land where your family is because you're all so special. The humour you bring while dealing with real life issues is cathartic to watch. Thank you for sharing your very real lives with us. This video had me laughing for so many different reasons. With age comes the ability to laugh at your situation. You showed great creativity with the tractor Jami. 🙂 The 50s are often tough. Heaven help me, I turn 60 in January. This past decade has been "interesting"and often times humbling for me and siblings. Along with some tears, there has been a lot of laughter as we deal with the indignities that can come with advancing age. Over Thanksgiving my brother-in-law (he needs knee replacements) could not get out of one of my mother's living room chairs. He obstinately refused my help until he realized that he had to give up sooner of his "stubborn of man" pride or he'd be sitting in that chair until he died. 🙄 It took a couple seconds and a hand clasp and he was up.♥️ My mindset is whatever gets it done! And a laugh seals the deal.

I know this was not funny for Lester, but I had to laugh!! 😂😂😂 Great idea to use the bucket on the tractor Jami! Jake is an awesome nephew to Lester and you. Always there and willing to help. Those shots in the knees are definitely numbing. I've only had one knee at a time done. Hope you feeling better Lester. I'm sure all the littles watching were wondering what was happening to you since they all love you!! I love you all and all the babies!! ❤️❤️❤️🚜

Lester you reminded me of myself when I first had my leg amputated. I was wondering how I was going to get up 9 steps to my apartment. Well I knew I had to build up some strength in my upper body so I jus went up and down the steps on my rear end. It was hard as heck @ first but I made it happen. Prayers for a speedy recovery 💕🙏💕. Love you guys

Y'all are so blessed to have Jake. He is such a sweetheart. Lester please don't wait too long to have something done with your knees. Knee replacement is not that hard anymore. Pray that you recover soon.

OMG better rest up for the next 48 hours as that’s what my doctor told me so the injections work properly. I can’t believe you drove yourself 🤣😂🤣😂so funny getting you and your Dr Pepper into the house 😁😁

Take him out into the pond Jami. 😂 😂. I’m not laughing at him. I’m laughing at the thought of you dumping him in the pond.

I had a cortisone injection in one knee in Australia and was told, “do not drive, insurance will not cover you! In case of an accident” so why was Lester driving? Anyway that was really funny 😂

I didn’t use a tractor but when my mom had her first stroke, and we didn’t know it, she would fall. I used everything in the house to lift and move her. Keep in mind, she had MS and often had days where she couldn’t walk so well, so this wasn’t new! I would lay in the floor with her and giggle about the dumb stuff we would use!! Lawd! This is funny!!!

OMG Lester using a shotgun as a crutch is priceless!!!! Jami you have really embraced the country living style by using the tractor to move Lester. Lester you will feel better once that shot kicks in.

Lester you took some ribbing and kept on going! Good on you. I can only imagine how many more jokes will be coming your way the rest of the day!🤣🤣 Great news about the meds you can eliminate from your life! Jami and Jake I applaude your restraint...while on video...in ribbing Lester. 💚💚

This reminded me so much of a few years ago my brother strapped a chair into the bucket of the tractor and put my dad on the chair. Then he lifted my dad up to the platform of the combine and with my nephews help got him onto the seat so he could ride around the field while my brother combined. That was the last time my dad rode on the combine and he was so happy. My dad had MS and lost the use of his legs. For a lifelong farmer that was so hard on him but he had the biggest smile that day. Get better soon Lester.
