The very professional crew manager/supervisor was going through the food to see what was catered and I hear her muttering to herself "a ham and cheese croissant" in a very much "are you kidding me" tone. I flew in that aircraft last week (2A) so just across the aisle and a bit further back in that staggered business seating arrangement; having just spent 3 1/2 hours in the same seat on a B737 my assessment was that the A220 was just a little noisier, not engine noise but airframe noise produced by the air moving over the fuselage. Very nice review. Business seat looks fine for a 2 hour flight (certainly better than BA Club Europe where the actual seat IS the same as economy) but food rather uninspiring. What shocked me were the price markups - $200-$400 to $500-$1000+...that's quite a hike for a 2 hour flight. Mind you it's probably true for most airlines. Certainly a better trip if one can upgrade for "free" e.g. with Qantas points. Was there any lounge access pre-flight?
@FromtheWindowSeat8 ай бұрын
Thank you! You can definitely get flights on this route for far less ... Thanks Adam, interesting to know that Airbus A220 is built in Canada rather than France although it is in the largest French speaking part of Canada. Very very jealous getting to talk to a pilot about the Dreamliner compared to the venerable 737, so will you do a video about what the differences are that you discussed? ;)
@FromtheWindowSeat8 ай бұрын
Yes, the reason for that is because the A220 was started by Bombardier (based on Canada) and then essentially acquired by Airbus but they decided to keep the production line in Canada, while also introducing a new production line for the A220 in Alabama. I wasn't planning to do a video comparing the 737 and 787 as many others, such as Mentour Pilot, are far more qualified to do so and it doesn't really fit with my channel (which is more about the journey than the vehicles themselves) but it was certainly interesting. He was retraining from being a long haul pilot to the 737 as he has a young family.

@FromtheWindowSeat8 ай бұрын
Yes, it is a bit odd that they use the A220 on this route ... I guess it allows them to offer an increased frequency at busy times than otherwise possible. The vast majority of flights are 737s though. I did enjoy how spacious it feels and agree about the food. Thank you!

Hi Erika! Thank you. I’d still give an edge to Haigh’s but I’m biased, being South Aussie. 😂
@Erika-el1kp7 ай бұрын
@FromtheWindowSeat Hey Adam, thanks for your reply. I would have thought you would have had a free upgrade by now from Qantas. So are the upgrades using points guaranteed?
@FromtheWindowSeat7 ай бұрын
@@Erika-el1kp Classic upgrade rewards are not guaranteed and are based on availability of seats (ie Qantas hasn’t been able to sell them) as well as frequent flyer status (so higher tier frequent flyers get first dibs). If you put in the upgrade request early and the flight has a good proportion of business seats available, then you might get an instant upgrade (so it’s upgraded when at the time you put the request in and is basically guaranteed as they deduct the points then). However, if it’s a more popular flight then you’ll normally find out if your upgrade is successful 24 hours or less before the flight (because there’s an unsold seat or someone else has cancelled or switched flights, for example). But it’s a good use of points compared to the cost of business class seats in $.

Adam I loved the shot of the engine on start-up. I have never seen that so close. What was the little camera you were holding in the toilet? I want one! well done on everything. the location sound during the flight into the lav mic (Sennheiser as a guess) was lost and buried in back ground noise. I suggest you use an AI audio noise reduction processing app in post production. I aspire to your editing standard. Sorry I'm a bit pissed as an 82 year old - I hope it makes sense. Paul
@FromtheWindowSeat8 ай бұрын
Thanks Paul! The little camera on a gimbal was a DJI Osmo Pocket 3. The lav mic was a Sennheiser but it was plugged into a DJI mic transmitter which broadcasts directly to the DJI Pocket 3. I do use an AI background noise reducer in Final Cut Pro but it’s not perfect and while making the vocals much clearer does reduce the quality. Compromises I guess.
@Currym0n8 ай бұрын
@@FromtheWindowSeatDear Adam, I have been thinking about that Sennheiser lavalier and without knowing the model, I suspect it is an omni directional mic. When I was a sound tech at the Festival Centre, we used DPA4288 head mics exclusively. These mics maintain separation under challenging conditions with a lead vocal singing directly into the opposite lead performer's face during an intimate scene. It is a cardioid mic and because it is close to the mouth the signal to noise ratio is at its best. The DPA4288 is the standard for musicals. I use one for presenters who insist on turning their head to the screen despite providing a laptop at the lectern in 'presenter view'. I don't use the Microdot adaptor and direct wire to the standard 3.5mm jack. mic
