Front Brake Pads Replacement Ford Focus 2012 2013 2014 2015 How to replace the Front Brakes
► Our Website for Tools, Parts and more Videos: mechaniclifesty...
We took this video to show you how to remove and replace the front brake pads on a Ford Focus Third Generation (MK3) This will cover years from 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 Model.
We demonstrated on the 2.0 engine but the other are either identical or very close to this procedure.
Make sure that you use good quality brake pads because if you use cheap brake pads they might not stop as good and even cause premature wear on the disk brake rotors.
This procedure should work on:
2012 Ford Focus Front Brake Pads Replacement
2013 Ford Focus Front Brake Pads Replacement
2014 Ford Focus Front Brake Pads Replacement
2015 Ford Focus Front Brake Pads Replacement
2016 Ford Focus Front Brake Pads Replacement

you can get away with it if you careful but of course its not recommended. Ive done it numerous times but on one occasion the caliper lost power, it seemed like it was seized, but the flexi-hose pipe was damaged internally - likely from leaving it hang. Sometimes you can end up pulling tte flex while you are trying to expand the pistons too

2 things: never let the caliper hang by the hydraulic brake line, and leave the inner pad in place to make compressing the piston with a C-clamp easier. Also, some caliper bolts may be Torx T45 instead of 7mm Allen/hex

Great video just a few things though, I noticed you just let the caliper hang by the brake line DONT DO THAT FOLKS! tThat is a lot of weight on those thin lines, you'll never want to let it dangle like that, number 2 you'll need to use a c clamp to push the piston back in while doing this again (unscrew the cap where your brake fluid/clutch fluid goes in) if you don't again you can have brake problems. Other than that useful video just may have some focus' with busted brake lines now.

I know well enough not to let the caliper dangle like that, I can still hear my dad yelling at me.. But what do you mean by pushing the piston back in? Didn't he do that at the beginning when he used his flathead to push them in? I ask because I'm going to use this gide to do my front brakes and don't want any brake issues down the line, but I don;t know what you mean about the cap.

A friend of mine has a 2012 focus and the brake pedal goes to the floor. If it's low on fluid then that is bad. If it's worn pads this vid will help. And thank god I don't have to take the god damn clip off the caliper because I did that on a Volvo and I can't get the stupid clip on. I'll just keep the old clips even though you really should use new ones.

Noooo That caliper bolt is not 7mm. I have a 2014 focus and my caliper bolts are Torx. I tried 7mm as you indicated and there was way too much slop using an allen, switching to Torx was right and tight. Yes 7mm will work but its not the right tool for the job and ultimately you will wind up buggering the head.

When pushing back the piston don’t you have to unscrew your brake fluid cap?
@Jellybeanie1993
@Jellybeanie1993 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah they forgot to mention that, I was trying to do that, wouldn’t work and couldn’t fit the new bigger brake pads on, we had to get a G or also called a C clamp and clamp them with the bonnet open and cap off of the brake fluid to release the pressure, they forgot to mention that, the job took me over three hours due to so many little hiccups and having to leave the job and get a C clamp
@Jellybeanie1993
@Jellybeanie1993 3 жыл бұрын
You mention using the screw driver to compress the cylinder, I did that, but when putting on the newer ones I couldn’t get them to fit in as they wouldn’t fit, I had to get a c clamp and use that and take the lid off of my brake fluid to release the pressure that way, everything was going good till that happened and I had to stop half way when my dad said ‘you need a c clamp’ I was annoyed that it wasn’t covered in the tutorial, bet some people are going to be caught out with that happening with them as well

Its called a pad slap.....if you got $50 but not hundreds for a shop bill..... this will work about 90% of the time if there's no fluid leakage, and rotors aren't grooved or warped.

Agreed and diff styles of work. Myself i resurface my rotor Everytime i replace pads. Old pad will cause unevenness speciallly those hard brakers lol and its not waste of money. New pad, new rotor or resurface it only makes sense. Rotors eat away as pads bite. Making them uneven. Then ppl wonder why they feel flutter vibration after brake job on the pedal. This wear pads even fastet aswell. And always clean the caliper properly and lube all parts with the right lubes!!! -pay it forward and not making difficult for the next guy!👍

Shoety. Work. Never let caliper hang by hose and never install new pads on rusty groves rotors either have them turned. Or install new rotors, those new pads will fail before 1000 miles. Use C clamp to push piston in on caliper. I would not want to ride in his car.

That is a piss pour way to do a brake job. From the way you pushed the piston back in to allowing the caliper hang by the hose. Lazy is what it is.
@kevinatspeed
@kevinatspeed 4 жыл бұрын
@MrBrucelee117 when pushing the piston back into the caliper...if not done with even pressure there is a risk of the piston not going in square with the bore. In addition, when pushing the piston back into the caliper, this is a great opportunity to crack open the caliper bleeder screw. instead of pushing old fluid that has been inside that caliper..getting hot..cooling off, getting hot...back into the master cylinder, get rid of it. That's two birds one stone. put a hose over the end of the bleeder. Route that hose to a container into which you've already added some brake fluid. open the bleeder screw. compress the piston. old fluid leaves the system and because the hose is suspended in fluid, there''s no chance of air getting into the system. add new fluid to the master cylinder reservoir.

@Bo Zo Nope, i don't work for a dealer..... I don't plan on selling my soul. When I do breaks on my cars everything gets replaced with new. After all, breaks are the only part of the car I don't cheap out on. My and my Loved ones safety rely on them.... I always remove rust with a wire wheel, clean the inside of the slide pin housing with Scotch Brite and always always replace the pins and dust boots...and apply a high quality silicone grease to all contact areas. This ensures reliable and trouble free break operation for years to come.
