I've just changed the pads on a 2005 Daihatsu Sirion 1.3 and it's virtually identical to this. I had a service on a VW Golf at a main VW dealer and the brakes needed changing all round. When I picked up the car they said everything was ok and it had been road tested. When I pulled away in the car I nearly ploughed into cars in their car park because they obviously hadn't pumped the brakes to seat the pistons correctly. They also told me that they had washed the car, I complained because the wings were covered in black hand prints, their answer was that they washed it and didn't valet it. I would expect better from a main dealer. I had just spent £1100 on parts and labour

What a fancy tool to push the cylinder back in. I just use a "C" clamp or a large slip joint plier. But before I push the piston back in, I use a glass syringe and I inject old brake fluid under the dust boot. A rag catch the excess as the piston been retracted.Since I started doing that 35 years ago, I never get another seized caliper.
@axios76
@axios76 2 жыл бұрын
I think this tool is for caliper pistons which are not pushed straight, but has to be rewinded.
@paulabes4220
@paulabes4220 Жыл бұрын
@@axios76 it's for rear brake calipers that have and internal e brake they need to be rotated back in when compressing the caliper piston. these type can be used on front calipers to.it also helps to crack the bleeder screw to relieve the pressure when compressing the the caliper piston. Just remember to add brake fluid and to bleed the brakes. Also you should take out the pins that the caliper slide on and put new lubrication on them and reinstall.

@screwsnutsandbolts
@screwsnutsandbolts Жыл бұрын
I would advise jacking up the front of the vehicle and supporting it using axle stands on both sides of the car. If you only jack up one side and then turn the wheel that's still on the ground, it could move the car a little bit and possibly make it fall off the axle stand supporting the raised side.
