Whenever I utilize KZbin to do a project that I don't know what I'm doing. If I can find more than one video I watch a few to get an idea of which presenter knows what they're doing and if they have a different way, or a few better ideas. Your video on the front brakes and wheel bearings is the best one I saw. Even just a few of your extra little tips, ie: a little grease on the bearing seal to prevent squeaking. About how to tighten the nut and then back it off and then check for a little play in the washer. Your video isVery thoughtful, and informative thank you

There are very few videos available for setting Beetle front wheel bearings, so thanks greatly for filling that gap. My particular angst about this job is in getting the bearings tightened properly (loose versus too tight) and I think you covered that and explained it well. The manual says when tight you should be able to move the washer "laterally" and I didn't understand which direction until you explained it. I feel more confident attempting this now after your great explanation. Also didn't know the flat side of there washer needed to face in towards the bearing (or that there WAS a flat side). I had to chuckle WITH you on the grabbing the wrong wrench. I grab wrong tools frequently while working on the car and we can ALL relate to that! The only thing I might add is to apply a dab of silicone sealant over the circlip to prevent moisture to enter the bearings space (which may be why there was wetness in there to begin with). Thanks for taking the time to provide this valuable information! Well done!

Thanks so much. Was wondering how much to tighten the spindle nut.
@king0cans Жыл бұрын
To convert to new style bearings all you need is to take the sleeve off the spindle buy bearings and races and install correct? Same style wheel seal?

Did a disc conversion on my wife's 74 Super.Put several hundred miles on it.Not a problem at all.THEN ! !About every other time it's driven - the front brakes lock up.The brakes are ok while still in town - it's while out on the highway. Already driven 5 to 7 miles since brake was used.Any idea what is causing them to grab ?Replaced all 4 rubber lines & master cylinder when I did the Disc conv.

I kind of remember doing some brakes on Beetles here and they had split axle nuts with allen pinch bolts..What series were they on.?
@SYFGARAGE8 жыл бұрын
my 62 has those. Not really sure on the correct way to tighten them. Everytime I'd tighten the pinch bolt it would tighten up the nut and put to much drag on the rotor. So I had to leave the nut looser than normal and then tighten the allen. I'm sure I did something wrong. lol

If it worked it can't be wrong...lol

Just bought a 64 baja (paid probabby $1 k too much) and it has no brakes at all. No idea how the guy drove it when I rode along. I can't drive a stick (yet) so I didn't notice he wasn't braking, partly becauese the odd seats aren't even bolted down, so I was hanging on for dear life. Anyway, for now I'm staying with drums, but I did order a later master cylinder and the bottle that sits right on it (labeled as being for off road/better braking). I should have the almost $180 worth of parts form RockAuto in about a week. That included a few extra bits like fan belts.

was there an advantage to vertical to horizontal wheel cylinder .
@bryanlatimer-davies12228 жыл бұрын
Just a thought I did not see the bore of the adjuster cleaned reattaching the flexible hose to a new cylinder almost always results in a twist in the hose unless you loosen the the union at the other end no hmp grease was used in the end of the shoes and the lock tab needs replacing each time maybe buy a dial indicator for the end float too but for a shade tree fix I guess it will do

this video makes me miss Jew Burner my 63. His floor pan was out and in the city they came and tagged it so I took it to my dads in the country 5 weeks later I went out there and the cars were gone> My dad sold them . I had a 67 micro bus with no side window and the bug . He said he needed tax money. I was mad driving home and I relized that when the tax man says money on wed. it means money on wed. and I never saw my cars again. Rambus.
