Besides, why you didn't show how to take the old one out? Most people are more interested in seeing how to take the old one out.

What happens if I knock my crankshaft surface? 😢 I had to use the tool that uses the sheet metal screws. A couple of them knicked the smooth surface of the crankshaft. Am I screwed? And who in the world designed a tool that uses sheet metal screws all around the delicate crankshaft sealing surface!!

So, have you also replaced the rear seals too? If so, you should do a video on the tools for that one...and post a link! This was a great video. I am not afraid to take care of it when mine begins to leak in the future! How is your front seal holding up since this video was done? No leaks still, even though you did not use the gasket maker?
@Makhnovets5 жыл бұрын
Yes. I did replace the rear seal as well, but I was in the rush, so there was no time to fix the video, about the front seal it still works fine, no oil. by the way, I sold the car couple weeks ago)... but I have some plans for the future with a lot of car projects. I'm planning to open a little shop in 6 month, so will see)

I order the tool from the description, but it says it’s for n20/n26 engines? Will it still work on a n54?
@Makhnovets4 жыл бұрын
Yes, according my research it will fit, the seal size is the same as for n20 and n55.

@@Makhnovets according to your research, is the tool you used in the video, not what you put in description? I want to be sure before I take everything apart:/

Whats the difference in tools compared to the n55? I accidently ordered an n55 only tool for my n54 job. Should I try and return it once I get it or will it still work? I think the only difference is the seal pusher guide for install.

THEY ARE EXACT THE SAME... some of the parts inside of the engine was changed... but that tool gonna work well on n54-n55

How can you test the front main seal?
@Makhnovets5 жыл бұрын
Hey! the seal by itself can drop the oil, you can simply check it by looking from under the car. for example my was damage because of the belt, it's was torn out, and after stuck behind the big main Pooley, which is caused me a lot of troubles. the main problem it's Valve Cover Leak, oil starts dripping on the serpentine belt, mess it up, and the belt simply ripped off on the top of that it winded on the main Pooley and sucked in inside of the engine with the crankshaft seal, then chunks of belt and seal stuck in the oil pump, and that about it. I will try to make the video about that sometime next week! my wasn't that bad, but it was enough to damage the front crank seal, (my speed was like 20 mi/h) imagine 50mi/h, after that you spending thousands of $ to fix it. so the main problem it's an Oil leak from the top of the engine on the belt!

How much shit did you have to take off of this thing before you could actually fit your hands down there? About to do this to a 08 535 and wondering if I should just disassemble the whole front end

Goddamn, BMW leaks from every singe place that has a seal or gasket. Even the windshield washer fluid canister is leaking on my 335i. When replacing parts, i try to avoid using BMW oem, aftermarket probably better quality. I put up with all this bad BMW quality (plastic parts and cheap cheap cheap gaskets) because it's so much fun to drive. LOL

Hi, i have asked the same Question and nobody i asked (bmw guys) will asnwer my Question!!! the thing is, if we use"OEM" Seals, well.... the leak will 100% return after the same amount miles... so i think also v everyone (mechanic) should just use a popular know good brand like Victor/ Felpro/ National/ skf/ etc. if not it will happen again, just BMW stupid leaks.
@battlehrfred2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan. i have been a mechanic for many ,many and many more moons that i care to think about...Also had a shop for a longgg time..... ive had many vehicles in my lifetime ( not bmw)...this used 2013 x5,35i is an good vehicle,but it has had it share of leaks since i purchased it 2 years ago, with only 130 thousand KILOMETERS on it! ...oil filter housing. / new top pan and New TP gasket and now the front engine seal is "whistling" for a few seconds only, whilst i first start it up cold in the mornings (rough idling and rpm flares up and down for a few seconds) and im thinking that it is also causing my Engine code 28AO Code that keeps showing up...im hoping its this seal..... BMW has made Junk seals or their supplier for these seals are not of good quality at all...to bad though... it causing havoc for their, so called,, high quality vehicle unreal. btw do you/we really need this $200.00 tool kit to do this front seal??? your thoughts ?ty

It seems to be that NOBODY wants to share how they take the crank seal out. The install seems manageable- but why would you post a video and EXCLUDE the removal?
@Makhnovets2 жыл бұрын
It was pain to screw that cone in to the seal, Back in the days I was out of patine. another think I was concentrated on removing the piece and then filming. Now I'm Trying to do filming First, and then repair. I know this is not the best video, but at least it has some info.

@Makhnovets7 жыл бұрын
whenever you gonna buy new sealing, you will notice small two gaps on rubber piece...you should apply some gasket maker before installation. I was changing that gasket with out GasketMaker and it works fine, no leaks, but to be shure you can do little touch.

Did you have to take out your radiator?
@Makhnovets7 жыл бұрын
Just a fan. which is easy to do! but be careful with oil radiator it connected to fan with one screw.
@DoJoZo6 жыл бұрын
It may just be the e60, but in my opinion, it was a lot of work to get the fan out. Once the fan was out, taking the radiator out is just a coolant drain away. Might as well just buy a bottle of coolant to have some extra room in my opinion.
