Keep making videos it really helps out a lot more then you may think. I own a N54 and coming across your channel really just taught me a lot and gave me the confidence to keep working on my car no matter how bad of a hassle some jobs may be thank you please keep doing your thing

I watched your entire N54 series and some of your E46 and E30 it’s amazing. My clutch started slipping and I was looking all over for videos on how I can upgrade mine on my E92 N54 myself I love working on my own car it just brings me joy and I stumbled across your channel and you made everything so easy to follow and understand. I ordered a new clutch kit light weight fly wheel and I’m gonna switch out the rear main seal while I’m down there

It’s a little scary working under the car without a lift but I think I’m just gonna order one of those lifts that you put under your car on each side and they jack up the car pretty high and safely it’s some sort of hydraulic system. Would do it on jacks but I’m not sure how much clearance I would have to be able to drop the tranny

A few points that should be added. You should lubricate the bearing with abit of oil this will help the seal slide over. You should also prime the seal grooves before inserting the seal. Use some RTV on the groves before pushing the seal in.

Yep he didn’t get any rtv in there at all. You are supposed to apply a thin (2mm) bead on the grooves of the seal, and then push the seal in.

The service manuals seem to suggest using loctite 128357 or 193140 not loctite 5970 sealant, they are considerably more expensive but come with a needle applicator. Is there a difference between these compounds and is there some documentation detailing that you can use the 5970 instead?

When you took off the pulley didnt you turn the engine backwards by not holding the crankshaft bolt while taking off the torque bolts
@Garageaholic2 жыл бұрын
Don’t need to with an impact
@MFA19992 жыл бұрын
@@Garageaholic but you were using a ratchet to take off the 6 pulley bolts and the pulley was moving backwards. Or am I being stupid and the pulley has no link to the crank going back
@Garageaholic2 жыл бұрын
THe pulley bolts are not concentric to the pulley. And they’re M8 size so small enough to easily break the torque by hand.
@MFA19992 жыл бұрын
@@Garageaholic ah okay I've just seen other videos where they have held the crank bolt while taking off the pulley bolts to stop it from spinning backwards and when I was removing the pulley bolts, the pulley spun backwards a little.

N54s make good power but damn they do have alot of maintenance work. All in all I think it's worth the hassle.
@Garageaholic3 жыл бұрын
Actually, I don’t know if it’s worth the hassle PJ. I think I’m going to finish releasing this series, but hold off on any more n54 work, integrations, repairs. N54’s are just too problematic

a good mechanic cleans the entire area first so as not to work with so much dirt.

How long does it take for the Sealant to dry and then cure. And the time until you can start the engine?
@Garageaholic Жыл бұрын
The sealant takes 5-10 min to dry before you can install the seal
@horton1700 Жыл бұрын
@@Garageaholic so how about the loctite after installing the seal
