Update on the removal of the fill plug on the front differential ! I purchased a gizmo called a Go To Socket and I"m really glad I did !!! I tried the ratchet and socket in vane and a lot of cursing..no luck..then the go to socket and ratchet without success,then I grabbed the Ryobi impact gun and attached the Go To Socket ! I put it on the # 3 setting and kept at it for quite a while and was about to quit, but squared it up on the beat up nut and finally I felt the nut turn !!! Celebrated my victory and couldn't have been more pleased ! I strongly advise buying the gadget..The Go To Socket ! I am not getting paid for the item that saved the day ! Buy it and keep it handy when everything else doesn't work,try it !

Yea that fill plug is on there. These videos always gloss over any difficult stuff. A dude just pops it loose with his little 3/8" ratchet ha... yea right. I used my longest 1/2" breaker and got it loose without too much trouble. You just need to have the truck up off the ground enough so you can get the swing on it. I used vehicle ramps.

AMSOIL squeeze packs are the best to use in these situations.

Always good advice to try & get the Fill plug off first! Did you say what size sockets we'd need, or did I just miss that? Thanks for posting this. Stay safe.

Let me see if I remember.... I believe they were all metric. I want to say 18mm on the fill, and 13mm on the drain. A general metric set of sockets should have everything you need. Also If your vehicle has a skid plate, and you choose to remove it, I believe those were are all 15mm.

@@andycaldwell4828 Thanks, I'd already figured out which sizes I needed. Stay well!

You don't spray brake fluid in there to clean it? Or is it a bad idea?

Does it need limited slip fluid in the front?
@andycaldwell482811 ай бұрын
80W90 GL-5 gear oil (1500 front diff) or 75W90 synthetic gear oil (all HD models front diff). That is all I can say.

Did you have to add limited slip lube to it?
@irishkelly654 Жыл бұрын
The front diff is not limited slip, so - no.

If you ever came close to any gear lube, you know how foul it smells. If you get it on your skin, it tends to soak in and is difficult to get off. Wear rubber gloves and you'll be much happier.
