Great info, very well presented. Suggest doing an updated version that also includes top loaders with no traditional agitator. And perhaps include additional advantages and disadvantages and how manufacturers are attempting to mitigate them.

I had a Swedish made "Electro-Helios" washing machine in the late 70's and it suited me perfectly. It was a top-loaded horizontal axis drum (like a front loader) and it suited me perfectly. It washed clean and fluff-free as front-loaders always do better, but (unlike front-loaders) you could always stop it simply by lifting the top-lid and add what ever was forgotten. After opening the lid you rolled the inside drum by hand until you could open two "barn-doors" and chuck something extra inside. Then it could just keep going washing again. Sadly I left it behind in Uppsala when moving to Australia, never to be seen again. That was ~50 years ago and many my washers later I never had a better one... Nothing close...

A good summary on top load v. front load. Need to be more objective than subjective. I.e. instead of saying more efficient, why not say this used 10 gallons of water and that used 8 gallons of water.

front loaders, most of them costs double that of a top loader. But I notieced less vibration from front loaders. But the capacity wise now a days top loaders comes in big sizes, a 10 kg top loader costs the same as a 6 kg front load m/c.

When we got to an appliance center and were about to buy a front load washing machine, the sales agent mentioned that it requires a circuit breaker, telling us that a front load washing machine has a higher need for electricity, which sounds like hassle and inconvenient to us, which is why we decided to go for a top load washing machine. A top-load washing machine does not need a dedicated circuit breaker, and that got me.

Just in case you would like to be inform.Rotary damper is small component that allow the closure of washer's cap gradual and does not whip.Soft-close mechanism makes it family safe, avoids slamming and allows for hands-free operation. Good helper on home appliance!

In front loading machine one can not wet the clothes like bed sheets overnight. So soap can remove all dirt as in top loading machine. I use only WASH PROGRAMME on top load washing machine to do so. I prefer top load washer.

My semi automatic top load is 9 years old and still running. I don't think front load is really advantageous just because it's energy efficient and slightly more compact. I think it depends upon person to person. But economically, it is just double the price where i feel it's not worth it.

Though very informative comparison between Top load and front load, some trouths concerning the top load are not valid for those of the European technology.. The European school have them rotate on horizontal axle, with opening door on to the the basket. Can you please include that version to your analysis, because the top load you mentioned is an old American school completely outdated.

From EU here, we only use this top loaded with horizontal axis because they are smaller. They are less effective in the average than the front. The american top loaded aren't used for decade.

I think there is a correction in your video regarding the power requirement. Front load machines uses much more power, roughly 4 times that of top load machines. I have seen front load machines rated at 2kW when most top load machines are mostly rated 300-400 W

Lol bought two front loaders , Panasonic and lg before. If I'm washing less clothes, it refuses to spin dry. I had to open the door lay out and balance the weight of the clothes for the machine to spin dry, what's the point of having one then? Never had such a problem with top loaders
