I played these games at the same years I don't know if you remember monster rancher 2 form ps1, like fm3 the characters were just small face pictures that blink and move lips a bit, really nice arts but the same basic, mr 3 at ps2 did a great evoluiton looks like a real time anime character, just the head but outside a frame hud, the game itself was worst than ps1 version and mr4 give a better upgrade at graphics but forget the art, I had the same bad feeling when saw new fm3re! But a miracle is impossible all square money is for ff7re, neither ff16 had a close care and love!

I 100% agree with the attacks lacking weight, it was the first thing I noticed. FM3 was the peak when it came to how devastating the attacks looked though later games did water it down even my fav in the series FM5 didn't have as meaty attacks as FM3, though they did do a decent job. I recently did a play through of FM 1,3,4 AND 5 on emulators and I missed those brutal shots with the SMG and shotgun. This remake takes the piss though. I feared when the devs eventually got to FM3 they wouldn't do the combat justice and I was right unfortunately.

Game dev here. There's no excuse for the lousy attack animation whatsoever. The technical advancement has gone so far from the PS1 era but those damaged animations look worse than most of the indie games this day. This smells more incompetency from the dev side than anything.

This 👆. If they could remake Star Ocean, Live A Live, Super Mario RPG and Trials of Mana properly, SO can they with the first three Front Mission games. I think the fanbase of these games just are just the same in numbers. Heck they even made Live A Live remake that had no western release for nearly 25 years and it surpassed the original sales. Let alone Front Mission 1 and 3 that are fairly known in the JRPG community.

It's sad that that Square didn't do much to this series in the recent years. It's pretty clear at this point that they're just trying to cash in nostalgia rather than making proper remakes for this series. It makes me happy that the consumers and fans of FM3 are not just blindly accepting these failures now and actually complaining, not just me and a few. I wish fans of FM1 and FM2 would've roasted the bad animations of their remakes as well in the past. I'm just hoping Square would redeem this by actually making the 1,2 and 3 remakes themselves. Because me, a big fan of the franchise would actually pay more as long as they are done justice. Edit: and no sirs and madame, the music isn't even remotely good like what others claim. The instruments used in these remakes are just obnoxiously loud and is just all over the place that it doesn't even fit the mood of the song. The Stage End theme 1, they added a brass layer and having it play an octave higher and added a flute in it like wtf? It lost its militaristic mood because of that. Sustained notes and reverbed instruments are made shorter like a saxophonist short on air. Listen to the "City (Japan)" the synth choir instruments on the verses and chorus are changed into some organ synth sht that it does not sound relaxing anymore. I could go on and on the final product, all of this are probably gonna sound like a generic midi ringtone. The music is important on this game because its an integral part on setting the mood of the scenarios happening on it and The original had objectively made it perfect as is. IDK what the developers are smoking. I have no hope for this game. They say its a demo already, not beta not alpha.

I really and vehemently disagree with art and portraits opinion. While it was mediocre job at rebrushing them, I am happy they decided to keep original art intact. Portraits are made by Akihiro Yamada, legend. And they are treasure to be preserved. I do agree with wanzers tho. They lost all weight in their movement, and while I can understand change in their looks, it was BECAUSE they were modernised to recent established lore and design. Which is crying shame because they missed opportunity to just label older models old. That way they could just update design to current modern standard as new version etc.

For Voice Acting, it's something expensive to do (even with companies criminally underpaying VAs), and with such a text heavy game, it'd cost a lot. I look to a text-heavy series called the Trails series that due to costs, sometimes has "half"/"partial" voice acting in some scenes due to costs and the sheer amount of text. As for FM3 itself...I've put hundreds of hours into this game since I first got it in 2000, and agree only XCOM/XCOM2 really scratches the itch. I saw these Remake clips and thought "what have they done to you?".

I'm just bewildered on why they approved on this studio when there is supposed to be a screening by looking at the studio's portfolio. Forever Entertainment's games are primarily novelty games and their "big" game remake like Panzer Dragoon isn't good either. They should've stopped with that. They should've instead outsourced it to the guys that made the Front Mission Borderscape. Forever Entertainment must've been cheap. that's why the pressed on with it.

IMO, there's a bit of irony in that Kazuki's victory animation actually feels a bit weightier compared to the original cause we get a bit of recoiling and inertia from the Wanzer moving (ie the Wanzer's frame shaking slightly when it stomped forward and spread its arms out), yet none of this weightiness and inertia is present in any of the more common combat animations. Almost seems like the animations are works-in-progress Even Ryogo's victory animation looks incomplete, he doesn't turn his gun sideways and upside-down like a gangster like he does in the original game.

Seems to be that the recent demo has opened many anticipating paying customers' eyes to the horror show of each of their fears becoming realized concerning the remake of FM3. After going through forums and video comment sections of various outlets, it seems that the culmination of issues that customers-in-waiting require ample immediate remediation are as follows: 1. Dialogue text sound existence, the fact that it exists is problematic to countless demo watchers. 2a. Combat choreography: character model fall animations do not seem to exist aside from a quick fall back and disintegration which lacks the authentic impacts for the action momentum. 2b. Screen choreography: character models are not provided the optimized camera angles, rotations, ques from moment to moment for camera transitions in an action sequence. 2c. Impact: Individual shots and swings no longer have any noticeable flinching, sway, recoil, and no FM3-famous explosive gunshots as per the machine guns, shotguns and other armaments for wanzers. 2d. Weight of force: No noticeable appreciation for weight of a wanzers and it's impacts on terrain or in combat, not even an adjustment to have different weight classes was implemented. All seems weightless. 3. Animations: No bracing for hip fire and an over-stiff gunfire animation was used that caused most gamers watching the demo to panic and fear the worst for the game, a bad indicator for sales. Character models seemed to lack not only in combat animation but in nuances noticed by various players that gave the game a more bland presentation overall. 4. Sound: footsteps of wanzers were not very noticeable and seemed bizarrely soft. Again, this reflects poor realization of physics concerning weight. Conclusion: players/would-be players are currently UNINTERESTED in this remake due to each of these glaring faults. Other faults do exist and were noted, but strict oversight over dev team to fix these main issues carefully will retain value and customers. Various have already said this. It is truly annoying. Topping the list for players is ... typing sound existence, ... Despicably bad animations, ... Horrendously bad defeat sequences and animations, ... No force of impact in combat, not even the traditional FM3 exploding gunshots, ... No flinching character models, ... Combat camera choreography is practically non-existent, ... Character portraits were not changed to be more cool, ... Combat sounds are super soft. But for a more positive outlook, perhaps certain things can be added if they also fix all that mess. And this is going to be more of a non-critical suggestion section below to add into the game: When a player finishes the last level and does the final game save, they should be able to.... 1. Keep all parts and wanzers they themselves check in a check-box list and the rest are automatically sold. 2. They unlock a cheat menu that includes a toggle option for ZERO weight on all parts. 3. Player unlocks toggle that changes each character's portrait image to newer much more modified variants (up to 2 or 3 alternatives and they can be individually set on or off per character previously encountered). 4. Unlocks a new game mode called "Multiplayer" to go online or local to contend against other player wanzers. 4a. Players can choose in Multiplayer to select a map and fight as a guest main character using their own custom wanzers against another player, each with the ability to field 1-4 units. 4b. Players can choose a Multiplayer mode that enables usage of their own super units or unique appearance units. 5. Unlocks the ability to go through a new playthrough and KEEP super units, unique appearance units and vehicles. 6. Unlocks a quadrupled vehicle roster with many slots. 7. Unlocks leaderboards with stats like playthroughs, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, max skill ranks, skills unlocked, Wanzers types acquired, etc. 8. Unlocks an online "Pilot's Gallery" found in Leaderboards consisting of Wanzer builds that can be viewed if another player clicks on your profile and selects "Pilot's Gallery." 9. New weapon able to be earned in new playthrough that is a beam machinegun. Also, a sword that is a hilt exuding intense fire - a pure fire sword! And a beam-based melee weapon like a beam tonfa or something.

Agreed on everything you say here. Front Mission 3 feels like it was made by arcade developers, sound effects and all of the vfx animations and impacts, square really loved those little details that make it so nostalgic for me now. I remember playing for the first time and I specifically was amused at the sound effect when you level weapon skills, it could pass as a machine gun sound effect from metal slug. In the remake its completely absent for some reason lol, and now the leveling popup feels completely lifeless and pointless. I think the devs haven't really thought out what made the game tick. The UI would do well with some texturing as well, which is another square staple, gave the menus so much charm. Portraits too would be better with nearest neighbour scaling instead tbh

I was so excited when the remake was announced that i'd check every week if there was any news of the release and after seeing the trailer i was genuinely devastated. I'm pretty sure they just upscaled and simulated everything using AI and did nothing new, while the intro cutscene looks cool it also looks a bit too faithful to the original, the animation is wonky and too robotic, wanzers are supposed to be flexible machines now they look like they are trying to break dance. The fact that they replaced the original sharp sounds of menus and the mechanical SE to something completely different (not even a remaster attempt) was very confusing and the new sounds are worse in every way. They even didn't have the "Thank you" from buying at the shop which is kind of iconic. When you launch the Donkey Missile and impact with it in the original game, it has such an amazing feel with devastating impact through the sounds and flashes, and everything in FM1R felt lacking comparatively. Looking at the footage, while I do see some parts improved from 1R and 2R, it still looks like a far stride from what the original was.

The machine gun sounds awful, the shotgun sounds way too soft. In OG fm3 you can hear that DADADADADADADADADADA from the machine gun. I literally typed that knowingly that it’s 10 shots because that OG MGun sounds have been drilled in my head. And those JINK sounds from the shotgun when you hit a non-anti-I user. Or just a soft POW when you hit anti-i Not to mention when there’s broken parts, the sounds of the sparks were so loud that you knew something was broken. Can’t even hear the robot’s whiffing sounds when they move. The knuckle sound is nonexistent and animation has no collision and just looks wonky. Quite disappointed with the shunyo model too. The shunyo looked like a wolf in the original. The movement as well, why is he skating on level 1? And where are the loud thuds when they’re stomping into position? And what’s with ryogo’s kill animation? He normally thumbs down but he just stands there. The OG fm3. Has wanzers even take a step back before firing. . Here, it’s barely noticeable.

Something is really, really wrong in the modern gaming industry man, especially when they trying to remake legendary games to fit the modern space. FM3 is one of my favorite of all time, and they remake it to this hot pile of crap. Why don't they just use the original sfx and animation and tweak it a bit? The OG is as perfect as it was, and still is. Just rework the visual and smoothen things up and you'd get an actual upgrade instead of this embarrassment. That SMG shooting stance, and the awkward melee slap is probably the most ridiculous thing in this whole demo. C'mon devs, you know you can do this right...

Even reusing the animation assets in FM2 remake wouldn't make it such bad, and the square shape of Shunyo looks like a rush work. I'm quite curious about how bad their progress management is that they could only make this thing for TGS. A comment here said it was caused by missmanagement and I think that's true. I would appreciate anyone who can investigate that and share their discovery.

I will absolutely agree the game preview we were given looks rough. I'm hoping that we were seeing a slightly older build that hadn't been polished as much and what we get at the end of November will be improved over it. I don't think I have as many issues with the Remake as others do. The art, Wanzer designs, etc don't really bother me and I think they look good. In contrast the animations definitely look as if they were in a rough spot. I'm really looking forward to this game as it was my first introduction to Front Mission.

FM3 Remake is definitely not made for any FM fans as it's objectively the worst version between the original PS1 release and the Remake. The main issue is the devs pretty much imported the assets from the previous Remake games and cobbled up everything else fore FM3 Remake making everything you mentioned completely miss the mark like Wanzer models, idle stance, battle stance and etc. All the battle animations are wrong because they're based off FM 1st Remake and FM2 Remake's quick and emotionless/weightless battles. Absolutely agree with the lack of voice overs being really disappointing, this is probably one of the first Front Mission games to veer off off course as most of the party are not military professionals but a rag tag bunch of civilians so having VOs would have been my number 1 suggestion for this remake...The plot is so sooo Gundam (ZZ)-like too!

The animations, which were never carried over to the other games, (And I believe was a reason they sold poorly) is just boring, especially FM4. Im old enough to remember playing with action figures as a child and setting them all up in dramatic action poses fighting each other. The reactions to hits taken and sliding into combat before firing rounds, makes FM3 so special, reigniting that childlike excitement for the dramatic action scenes I saw in my head with my toys. I’d be happy if they simply let me run the original FM3 without needing an emulator-that’s all I want. Just give me the original version, running natively on PC or on Switch, and I’d buy it at any price. But as it stands now, it's a hard pass for me. Favorite turn based that's set a bar so high that very few turn based games can match. It's a great game because the storyline is excellent, I prefer Alisa mode because I like the party and the storyline that you go through in that path more, but the game itself has very little depth. It can be argued that there isn't a single great game in the Front Mission franchise minus storyline that's been released in the west. I say released in the west because a lot of praise is thrown around towards Front Mission 5, and whether that's one of the "the best games you've never played" which is a condescending phrase I use, or whether the game is actually great. Front Mission 3 is simply equip your left or right hand with a single weapon, the shotgun, machine gun, etc, equip your right hand with a shield. Even though the fist is one of the worst weapons since you always go last, I still always use Kazuki as my fist character and everyone else I either give a shotgun while one character has a rfile. Shotguns have one less range than machine guns and ranged weapon enemies only use machine guns, so there's no way you're going to be out of their range with anything other than the sniper. But, have shield equipped, any attack you take use the shield, any attack you deal, use the shotgun. You'll continue leveling up with that single weapon, and that's the weapon that will deal significantly more damage than everything else. Using multiple weapons just makes you weaker and there's no strategy to it since you can't outrange a machine gun with anything but rifles and rockets, so it's pointless. The shield basically means you don't even have to consider a loss, not going to happen. If you think a Front Mission has so much depth for turn based RPGs that nothing comes close except for XCOM, I guess you just haven't played many turn based TRPGs.

@@anonamatron [very long reply, but I've included a lot of information about Runersia that I think you'd like, including a way to increase the difficulty of the main game(not by limiting yourself, an inclusion in the games last patch) and the game's challenge mode.] Both games have the same kind of map design in and out of battle, the only difference is the balance. The developers that made the new game didn't seem to understand the reason for lower and high level knights, because if your characters are higher level and a higher class, the lower level enemies just really stand no chance. Levels make a huge difference on Brigandine The Legend of Runersia, where on the original PS1 version, they do matter, but the game is more balanced where lower levels are still viable. On the original game, you're also probably not going to actually lose any bases, or atleast it being very rare that you do, but enemies do attack more often and because the better balance, even lower level enemies and monsters will still put up a fight. There's a few things I don't like about the class system in Runersia, but overall I do think human classes are better because they have a lot of unique ways that they battle. Berserkers and lancers for example can use the spin attack to attack surrounding enemies with 100% hit percent, the monks can attack and knock enemies back, the thief can attack at a range and pull enemies towards them. The original game, the classes only have, an attack, a two or three space throwing attack, or an optional critical hit attack with lower accuracy(on GE only.) Plus whatever magic spells they may have. That being said, knights in the original and GE especialllly due to the balance are not nearly as powerful as the knights on Runersia. They are just as powerful as one of your monsters and by that, they are just as weak as any one of your monsters, meaning that they can go down pretty quickly, so you're more defensive towards your knights rather than being as offensive as you'll use them on Runersia since losing your knight means you lose all their monsters when they're forced to retreat. I'd rate Runersia an 8/10 because of the balance issues, while I'd rate the original Brigandine a 10/10. It's not perfect, nothing is, except Tetris, I can point out some issues on the original Brigandine but these are not stand out issues and only in certain maps, certain monsters. Since you did bring up that you own Runersia though. Try out Runersia's challenge mode. This is a brand new feature on Runersia. It doesn't exist on the original game or GE. Challenge mode allows you to choose 10 knights, a ruler and nine knights you've unlocked through all countries. You start in a single city on the map, all of the other cities are owned by the other countries. Each time you hit a goal, all of the enemies levels increase. So the first goal is to own four bases, so once acquiring two more, the enemies levels will then be a minimum of two across the board. The first battle is going to be relatively hard because everyone is on level one, the battles afterwards are a bit easier, but once the enemies levels start increasing, the second half of the game becomes much more difficult, especially if your monsters keep dying. When you have to get new level 1 monsters and enemies start on level 12, it's going to be extremely difficult to even finish battles without monsters dying. At the very end, all enemy monsters are on level 30. So this challenge mode unlike the main game can be lost. You basically have to use units to recruit other units while using other units to take over bases, etc. As you get new units you can start now using those new units to defend or take over other bases. So it definitely adds a lot more difficulty, and the best thing about it is that it shows just how much depth the Brigandine games have. Even more so than the original. Since all characters start on level 1, you now really get to take advantage of cross classing. On the original Brigandine you get to take advantage of this with the low level characters as well, but on the challenge mode, everyone starts on level 1, so you can take advantage of cross classing with literally every single character in your party. My favorite class in Brigandine the Legend of Runersia is the lancer, the royal guard actually which is the last class. However, you can start this class off as a dancer/assassin. Once getting to level 6, the dancer class is mastered and anything the dancer has that can be carried over will then be carried over to the lancer. After the lancer is mastered, you move onto the second dancer class, and then master that, all spells and skills will be carried over, and then your royal guard will be able to move, attack, and then move again, have higher critical hit chance, have higher evasion, as well as the skills and attacks the royal guard has. Another great cross class on Runersia is starting as a cleric. Cleric's have a medium amount of HP and a medium amount of MP. When mastering the cleric, you can change to a lancer, you now have a high defense, high attack class, with recovery magic. Once you master the lancer, you change to the healer class, and then change to the templar. You now have a high attack and high defense character that can use spin attacks and has healing, area heal, etc. Your HP, is probably only around 100 less than it would be if you started with a lancer and there are plenty of clerics that have decent attack/agility stats. The final two cross classes are both magic and both cross classing with the cleric. The first one is an enchantress/cleric. You may want to choose the base class as an enchantress so they have more MP and intelligence but using the enchantress and mastering them first makes it easier to use the cleric as both a back line magic user as well as a healing support. The next one is a bit more difficult to level up, but they are imo a better class once you level them up and that's the cleric/bard The reason for this is they have the support skills from the bard(which are only usable as a bard) they have the buffs and debuffs of the bard, and they do gain access to thunder, the most powerful of the single target three hex range attack spells. Using the bard abilities to increase an allies stats does so for several turns, meaning that one ally is going to be dealing higher damage, getting less damage each attack. You can also give up the amazing recovery support from enchantress/cleric if you want to build an enchantress/bard for the attack/buff support. So the optional challenge mode is the best thing about Runersia that the original game doesn't have. There is one last thing with Runersia, which was added in a patch when the PS4 version released. You can add revival stones per month to every country. Multiple revival stones. Revival stones will allow any dead monster within the past 50 monsters, to be revived after death. This means that if you max out the amount of revival stones that are given to each country every month, each country will be able to revive their most powerful monsters and since most enemy countries don't attack, the ones that you aren't actively attacking will just stock pile these stones and have an endless inventory by the time you get to them. They'll be able to continue to battle with their most powerful units in every single battle, that would actually significantly increase the difficulty of the main game instead of making the game easy after the first few initial battles against those countries.

@@kupomogli Looks like I found the person to talk to about Brigandine... should I mention that I stopped playing Tactics Ogre because I was stuck on a battle.. and kind of also that it irks me that refusing to murder a village of innocent people puts you on the "chaotic" path.....? I do need to get back to that one soon because it was really awesome until I got stuck. I've watched other people beat the battle but don't see a way to do that with my army and it seemed like they were doing significantly more damage than me... but there's level caps so I don't know how they're doing that. I was going through walkthroughs and couldn't even find that battle. I'm a good guy so I of course did NOT murder all the women and children so I didn't even bother looking in the Chaotic path... geez. Still didn't get anywhere and I had other stuff to do so it fell by the wayside. Would definitely like to get back to it though. I know Brigandine has difficulties but I'm not sure if I saw or tried challenge mode, but it sounds like a good time if I get back to the game. I have it next to my Switch, which is my "play these games soon" pile. (with Tactics Ogre of course)

@@anonamatron I can help with Tactics Ogre Reborn as well. What's battle are you on or more specifically, who's the leader if it's not a generic unit. So Tactics Ogre Reborn isn't like most TRPGs and you will be using all aspects of the games mechanics to progress. This includes consumables as nearly every buff and debuff in the game but a few has an item for it and they'll all last around five turns. On chapter 2, you can purchase crafting books and crafting materials to start making +1 versions of your weapons and status effects at times are more important than the weapon attack power. Soldiers and archers auto ability guarantees 100% hit rate and this includes adding any status effect attached to a weapon, any active skills also add the weapons status effect. So for example, let's say you have two soldiers and two knights with broadswords+1, all of which will add the breached effect. When the soldier's vigorous attack auto skill goes off, then it adds the effect that will guarantee this status effect on the next attack. The reason to have two soldiers is that you now higher chance for the auto effect to trigger. It's kind of like a collectible card game. If you have 50 unique cards, you're going to have a 14% chance on the first seven cards to pull any of those 50 cards, and then from there slightly increased chance every card you draw. But someone who makes a specific build with a deck of 50 cards and most cards have four most cards you know have a higher chance to get exactly what you want. Same with auto abilities. Breached reduces defense by 50%, so your archers will now start dealing from 1HP to 100HP, or your melee characters will start dealing around 200HP after the enemy is effected with breached. Active skills also guarantee the passive is added, so characters like terror knights that have a 25MP active skill can add fear and breached with a broadsword+1. Now your damage is around 150HP with archers and 300HP with others. A beast tamer is the earliest class in the game that can throw items. Dynast King's Mead adds breach, brand of the sacrifice adds weaken(reduces attack by 50%,) echo stone adds spoil spell which reduces 50% magic attack and there's another that reduces 50% magic defense. I usually bring the first three of those and a healing item, this way I can throw a brand at the boss and reduce their attack by 50% for five turns, afterwards when I'm ready to target and start attacking the boss I'll throw dynast king's mead. There's also elemental shots that increase in attack power based on your weapon skill level. These are abusable and pretty broken. However, going in with a party of undead when the main game doesn't have any exorcism magic is also pretty broken. Being able to use griffons to manipulate enemies targetting high HP low defense targets to take away damage your lower HP humans, etc. There are aspects of the game that are abusable. So most classes in Tactics Ogre Reborn are equally as good, but a class that is more important than people realize is the knight class. You don't need to use the knight in every situation, but having two knights will keep you alive. So every knight adjacent class has rampart aura, but the knight and white knight have guardian force. What this skill does is when it activates, any ally within a range of two who is attacked will received 50% damage and the knight will receive 25% damage. This not only reduces the damage and shares it with the knight, but it completely drops 25% of it from even effecting your party. The effect is increased the more characters with an active guardian force on in range. Much like all other auto skills having two knights with guardian force will increase the odds that this will trigger, and when it does trigger, you want to then position that knight where it will benefit allies who will be attacked. The battles in the game only get harder and most of the bosses use 1handed swords and the first skill does a double slash that pretty much OHKOs any human unit(or special boss characters that do the same.) Throwing a brand at these enemies to reduce their attack by 50% should save you from getting OHKO if there's no critical hit, using knights to reduce the damage with guardian force will further reduce that damage and it's altogether a great skill to just reduce damage across the board. Two soldiers and two knights as your front line all with broadswords or zweihanders will reduce enemies defense and then on top of that guardian force can activate, backrow characters can deal more damage, let's say two archers, one ninja, one beast tamer. Archers, beast tamer, and ninja can have baldur bow to shut out magic users by adding silence with eagle eye, you can opt for the ninja to have have a bowgun instead adding other effects like sleep, charm, stone, etc, and you can add benumb or envenom to add poison to all their attacks. However if you are going with an effect like sleep or charm, I'd recommend not using poison as it will remove the effect. Stone is still good though. The beast tamer can throw any of the item effects I stated to debuff the boss. Have a wizard/warlock and cleric in the back. Maybe have two clerics, etc. If you're already putting enemies to sleep with ninja every single attack with bowguns, you're taking al ot of enemies out of the fight for around two turns each. So here's a video I made, short video, kind of funny. if I were using guardian force on my white knights, I could have avoided that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZDVpoigl756hNk

I played and re-played Front Mission 3 a lot, it's my favorite PS1 game. When i saw remake, i thought it's gonna be something new and cool. I like how they made new mix for Front Mission 3's music, but how they re-designed wanzers, clunky animations during battle, it's awful, like someone spray painted on Mona Lisa.
