Shame you didn't mentioned that this game has 2 completely different, opposite storylines that even if they happen to cross in some places and times, you get to see everything from a completely different perspective. And, hell, you really didn't give the story much of a look, it deserves more i think. Otherwise, great review as always. You should try Front Mission V someday, cuz i personally think it's the best one just because of the story and characters. Also, it spans across a lot of years, so many years that the events of Front Mission 3 start and end somewhere in the middle of V's story iirc. The only bad thing is that it was never released in the west, but at least fans did a great job fan-translating it a long time ago. God i love Front Mission, shame it's dead now.

Because of the industry's obsession with photorealistic graphics. Casual and younger gamers wont buy a game if its not absolutely real looking. SE has tryed making smaller budget games like i am setsuna and lost sphear, but to only mediocre success. Its really sad. Id take a front mission 5 thats made with the FM3 engine over anything "so pretty" any day. Dont get me wrong, FF7R looks amazing and so pretty, but its an anomaly for me. Generally, i prefer older looking games where the dev put much more time and effort into story, gameplay, music/audio. TL;DR Cause ppl are freaking idiots.
@Jack_804 жыл бұрын
@@FredHerbert999 ff7r is not even gonna compare to the original and there's a pretty good chance we'll all be dead by the time they're done milking it. it looks pretty nice visually but gameplay wise it looks like a mediocre action game to me. it looks like i'd be getting bored already in the first overly long, repetive boss fight. it's going to be broken into at least 3 games, very possibly more by the sound of it, and i'm sure each part will have plenty of dlc. i would rather have new ff games with ps1 graphics that are as large and complete as 7-9 than this crap. i feel like i'm the only person on the planet that couldn't care less about ff7 remake. sad thing is that when people are this hyped for a game, it can be complete garbage and most people will still praise it, like they're brainwashed by hype into forming an opinion before even playing it, and nothing will change that opinion.

I have been meaning to follow up by playing Front Mission 3, but damn does that game have a daunting amount of content!

I totally agree with you about permadeath. People talk about how much they like it, but most if not all of them probably just save scum and try again. It's a tedious mechanic that just has people crossing their fingers in hopes that the enemy doesn't crit them or they didn't place any of their fragile units too far out. Cool vid btw
@alteregoreview6 жыл бұрын
StaySkeptic That's true, it would cut back on the amount of save scumming. However, it would force players to stick with a very hardcore approach to game design. Even Fire Emblem has phased away from permadeath with the option of Casual Mode. Also, it might force an overhaul of the current save system for some games. Fire Emblem has saves that function in the old school way and if it changed to an autosave system, they'd have to rethink how the game works.

I can never pinpoint why I love this game so much, but having played this game for hundreds of hours, there's just something about this game that really hits it right with me. The "20 minutes into the future" trope where it's futuristic with all the mech stuff, but everything else is modern day, the more mature political story that you never really saw in any other game at the time, the more realistic look and feel the characters have (also unlike other games at the time) I feel it's one of the best games I've ever played, and the only thing I wish for it is to have more of it, especially post-game stuff. And balancing. At a certain point, it become very easy with all the broken battle skills, so I had to challenge myself by using odd loadouts

But given that you reviewed the Yakuzas and the Tales Ofs, I think you'll manage lol. I just don't want you getting burnt out on them like you did with Tekken (sadly). Maybe a retrospective? Maybe 4, 5 and 0 should share a vid? I really want to hear you talk about the series' themes, music, atmosphere and stuff. Like how Ace Combat Zero has Spanish guitars, references to Arthurian mythos and over the top Metal Gear-esque war speeches. So either 3 or 4, it's up to you. the internet/email system in the game is really unique and amazing for the time. I'm surprised no game has tried to emulate this as a way to interactively flesh out the lore. Just wanted to say that after finally getting into FM3, l really missed out on the most fun Turned based RPG ever on the ps1. Had this as a kid for my ps2, but hated reading and l remembered it felt dull. That is not true, in terms of a turn based game, The Legend Of Dragoon and XenoSaga are the only one l ever replayed. Now FM3 is the King, just from the pacing, the real sense of power from the sound design, and the different REAL playstyles you can use in this without getting screwed to much for trying new things makes this a true joy to play. Maybe not the deepest of this genre, but its just fun to play. And the custom wanzer setups really make you want to play as much of the game as possible, it helps that battles are fast and fluid rather than slow and filled with even slower walking around a large open-ish world before combat.

As a mech fan I've always wanted to get into this series. I really need to get my DS back out to play the remake of the first game. Guess I'll do that after I finish Rance X in a few years.

It's a pretty deep series with ridiculous plots, twists, turns, and political power plays. You will of course have to turn your brain off when considering that Australia and Japan are the spear heads of a militarized national unity that North America were so jealous of they decided to force South America into joining their newly found fully forced organization United States of new Continent. It is absolutely stupid, but that is what makes the story fantastic. The only thing left that would make it even better is if it had Dues Ex level conspiracies. The first one is rough around the edges and the UI isn't as pretty but it's still a solid game 25 years later. I haven't played the second one so I'm not sure what that is like, but I personally believe that FM3 is the best one in the series. I highly recommend either emulating the game or buying a PS1 just to play FM3 alone.

Surprised you didn't mention that this game is basically two games (it has two separate campaigns that are each full length games/stories with a different set of party characters) based on a very early choice in the game

oh crap you finally mentioned it at like the last possible second never mind

I just finished this game again last night, Emma route. I first played this game during my high school days, that time my english is not as good as now. I played only for the gameplay. But now my english good enough for me to also enjoy the story. This game's story is good, full with political stuff, betrayal, person using another person, and tales of bravery and friendship. Now I can't wait to play Alisa route too. ( But how come my favorite character is Isao Takemura, he was not even playable lol)

Man when playing this game I really didn't like Kazuki that much at all. Elsa from FM4 was much more likeable as was Daryl. Haven't played FM5 yet, please Square just fuckin release it.

one of the greatest games on the psx, together with FF7 on top of my list. Its soooo good! leveling the skills can be painful, but also rewarding. i love it so much, sadly the series has died.
@ruslana41352 жыл бұрын
surrender isn't much effective and often random af later on the game especially in Emma's Story, you can get Pilot Damage I skill and high activation COM.... just spam those skill until 6 skill slots you have on a character is full, and equip your "pilot killer" character's wanzer with early game weapon, however in Alisa's Story you can't get access to Pilot Damage I skill bcs the very wanzer that lets you learn it isn't available so you had to stick with the funny Eject Punch and then blast the ejected pilots upfront
