great video...I've got those roller bearing's to fit to my struts...now I know where.

I mean, no guarantee I got it right 😁 But I fitted them according to the instructions (I got these from Robsport BTW), and I can't see how else they would go.

Yes, I'm enjoying the rebuild part of this as well! It's at the stage where small things make a lot of difference.

The strut swivel bearings are in fact Ford Sierra ones and therefore man enough for the job, see the part number stamped on them, also they replace the original greased washers so ride height is not affected. They do a wonderful job in making the steering light when manoeuvring at slow speed.

Thanks - I thought the Rimmer ones were the Sierra units, but you're probably right!

nice work as usual. Bit of a bummer when those part suppliers get the order wrong, maybe point them to your channel in the hope they may up their game.

Yeah, with the amount of parts I'm getting it's inevitable some of them will be wrong. I got the bolt kit off eBay ages ago, and can't even remember the seller, so I'll have to take the loss on that one. I had the same issue with the rear bolt kit I got. Lesson learned, I guess. The nuts could simply be a case of the track rod ends having a different thread to the factory standard ones. Annoying, but it happens.

Can I ask how do the swivel bearing work? Because if you look at 3:39 the greased washer looks like it is engulfed by the top mount, so not doing anything technically, unless the top mount is a solid piece? Just asking because I am looking to buy a bearing kit, so wanted to check before taking the plunge! Thank you :)

No, the washer doesn't really do much in itself, I think it's just there to stop the bearing getting pinched by the top mount. Honestly, the instructions that came with it were quite vague, but I can confirm it does work. The strut swivels quite smoothly and easily. The ones I got came from Robsport if that helps, I think Rimmers sell a different style one.

@@RedsGarageUK Thanks for your thoughts, I really appreciate it. I did notice the needle bearing version on Rimmers site, but the needles, I thought, could be vulnerable to getting flat spotted on a heavy, pot hole type, impact. It also looks like a 'thick' assembly which could affect the ride height perhaps? Too many options, and too complicated lol :) Thanks again.

@@adrianhughes2163 Yes, I did wonder about the ride height, but as it's also replacing other components it's not actually much difference. Perhaps 5-10mm or so. I think the Rimmers version is a bit worse in that respect, but I haven't seen their one properly so can't say for sure.

I'm about to start replacing the bushings on my 80 tr7. Curious what size press you used. Thanks
@RedsGarageUK2 жыл бұрын
The hydraulic press? It was a 12 ton. You could probably get away with a smaller one for this though.

You forgot to fit and secure (with a zip tie) the lower lip of the strut boot over the strut retaining nut so dirt and water don't get onto the shaft of the strut. This is an incredibly fiddly job (worst than the steering rack boots) and I was hoping to see how you managed it.
