You did one big mistake . All that grease is going to find its way to the clutch plate facings and the fine dust produced during use is going to stick to the grease and results in a sticky messy lump. Only graphite powder should be used on the splines of the shaft of the gearbox.Apart from this , it is a very good video.

Thank you : ) I suggest you to replace the cranckshaft seal and the pilot bearing,wich is behind the flywheel,even if it doesn't leak now,it will before your replace an other time the clutch. Be sure to tighten the flywheel screws correctly,and to reinstall it the same way it came,to be sure the top dead center teeth around the flywheel are positionned correctly. Adjust the clutch cable tension if you have one once finished,so the clutch doesn't slip or operate correctly. Have a smooth work : )

Good job, I think it's a good idea to mention in the title it's a Renault 21 with F2N engine. I have a Twingo c3g 1995. Hope my clutch will last forever, it's been 290000 km.
@crpth15 жыл бұрын
I still have a Renault Twingo D7F engine, 1998 ~285K km. The clutch haven´t needed intervention, yet. But I do recognize the bearing is getting noisier by the day. By far the best "dirty cheap" car I´ve ever had. Lack a ton of modern features, but it´s extremely reliable and always deliver. I drive across Europe from time to time. About 7 countries, 3000 km to each side (6000 km total). Although the sound proofing, power, amenities, etc. as nothing to do with my other cars, particularly the Mercedes. The fact is you put gas and it takes you where you want to go, every time. ;-)

@crpth17 жыл бұрын
Bert Cochran - +1 on that. It's so much trouble to get to the clutch that a little more work and the main seal can be easily done at the same time. Same on the timing side, always change seal when doing the timing. Most kits have a water pump, better had the seal. In both cases is better and easier to do now than come back later and do it all over again...:-) But this is a really nice video on a clutch fix. ;-)

Hi, Thanks to you for this,i'm happy it's helping somebody. I sugest you to buy a service manual to have torque values etc.. you will can do that like a pro,or even better. How much km/miles your clutch have seen till now ?
@riera2229 жыл бұрын
michaelovitch Hi there, sorry I saw your message late but guess what? I changed the clutch two days ago, all by myself but I suggest to anyone to really try it if they knw what they r doing, I didn't want to hurry so it took me about 15hrs. The car drives like new now, it has abt 225,000 kms so it was time to change because it started slipping. I jst need to figure out abt th gears. It's a manual the 1,3,5 are working fine but it's hard to shift to 2,4 & reverse. I think the other cable is jammed or broaken. Any help? Will appreciate
@michaelovitch9 жыл бұрын
riera222 Congratulations : ) Looks like the problem yes. one cable to push gears 1,3,5,the other to pull gears2,4,R. i guess you have the rear gear down right on the shifter? take a look at the cable and where it's attached.on the shifter and the gear box. you may have not placed it correctly or something is bent a bit. it happens sometimes when you move the gearbox in the engine bay,there are so much stuff and so little room...
@riera2229 жыл бұрын
michaelovitch Yes I did try by shaking the cables a bit and it worked. You are right, there is a very small room nd heaps of things to squeeze into it. I'm so happy how much money I managed to save. I bought the clutch kit for $330 nd less than $90 for the oil to go in, turns it was really bad nd sticky. Bro I can't hold to myself he much you helped me, I like fixing things myself but this was a huge task, I'm jst 24yrs nursing student. All I need to do now is to adjust the clutch pedal and I think it should be under the steering column. Thanks again and again. Be blessed.
@michaelovitch9 жыл бұрын
riera222 You did it alone,thanks yourself : ) I'm happy the vid helped you dang it's really expensive for a clutch kit,the oil is expensive too. what engine do you have ? i've looked, here it's around 150 max for a clutch kit on 1.6 or 2.0 liters engines.

I am using Part Number KF605-02 I purchased from O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Santa Rosa California. It is for a 1989 Mercury Tracer, 1.6L non-turbo. The original clutch that I removed had 6 springs on the clutch the new one has only 4. The original pressure place I removed has many little "fingers" on the diaphragm spring, the new one has less. When comparing the two clutch assemblies side by side they appear to have the same dimensions - Throw out bearing, clutch disc, and pressure plate. But when I mount the pressure plate and torque the bolts to 20 ft. Lbs the CENTER of the Diaphragm Spring gets sucked in totally flat towards the engine away from the throw out bearing, it does not protrude outwards towards the trow out bearing at all! It is not a hydraulic clutch. When I mount the bell to the engine and connect the clutch cable properly I do not have any tension at all on the clutch pedal. It feels exactly like when it is not hooked up at all. It goes straight to the floor with very little resistance and sticks there until I use my hand to pull back it up. I did that 3 separate times wit the same result. When I mount the old pressure plate and tighten it down, the many diaphragm springs do not go flat, they still protrude towards the throw out bearing. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE NEW CLUTCH ASSEMBLY #KF605-02 ?? After the person at O'Reilly's looked online at other part stores and crossed referenced then they said there is actually tow parts numbers for a 1989 Mercury Tracer 1.6L non-turbo. There are a KF605-02 and a KF605-01. He said they sell mostly the KF605-02. Is one a diaphragm type on the other a coil spring type pressure plate? Hopefully I will not have to go with a different brand.

Would have been much easier to have left the gearbox and drive shafts in situ and lifted out the engine, you may not even have had to remove the rad, Some of the repair manuals tell you that's the way to do it, only because they have nt tried it anyother way, And for the Guy with the Astra , engine up is far easier, "been there done it"
@michaelovitch9 жыл бұрын
Kilhamjim It's an other technique,i'm sure it works good too. But on a recent car you have ten bililons sensors to unplug,and it would be quicker to just make room to remove the gearbox,specially when you have no axles going inside it,but just clipped to it. At the end, one of the two have to go outside the engine bay if there is not enough room : )

nice video , i only have experience with changing clutch on subaru impreza which is 4x4 transmission , looks a lot easier on fwd cars , i want to buy a turbo saab 9-3 and your video gave me extra confidence to do it
@michaelovitch6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, If you did that on a 4x4,you have no worries to expect from a fwd car. Unless you work a on badly designed one.
@johnvikestad68266 жыл бұрын
i actually lifted the motor out because it was less work than to remove the trans :)

Less work is what make peoples think before to do something. It's often a very good thing.

sure sure no probs mate..lookin forward to that..tnks for d reply...
Sir, thanks for the video. But it is highly advised that you do not use so much grease where you applied it ESPECIALLY on the input shaft and throwout bearing! As they spin, they may throw out the excess grease between the flywheel, friction disk, and/or pressure plate, which will cause clutch slipping. Use very little, just a thin film. And the grease is advised to be high temperature tolerant. Regards.

Thank you. Yes,i should have filmed also that we removed the excess. There is quite a lot of peoples wich tell that regularly under the video. I should add this comment in the video : )

Thanks : ) How much does he charges you ?
@dougquaid5 жыл бұрын
£200 for labour. £465 for parts,

@@dougquaid Honest, For your information ,there are conversion kits produced by big auto parts companies allowing you to install a standard clutch,and eliminate the dual mass flywheel.

Kiitos tiedoista. Itselläni on vuoden 2008 transit connect ja rämisee aivan sairaasti. Vikaa on haettu mutta ei ole löytynyt. Tämän jutun kautta tiedän missä vika on ja huoltoa varataan kytkinremonttiin. Huoltoliikkeet ei aina tiedä mistä vikaa pitäisi etsiä.

Valeo tend to supply a tiny sachet of grease in the clutch kit. No need for that great gob of grease and I suspect the box will have to come off again shortly.
@michaelovitch6 жыл бұрын
We removed the excess of grease just before reinstalling the gearbox. Yes,it was in excess. There was no grease provided in that kit.

When I comes to replacing a clutch unless that pressure plate is close to new the fingers on it are gonna be worn out. It would always be a good idea to replace it. Nowadays they don't cost much either.
