@@belectric_co648 I did it! It wasn't easy for sure. But it also wasn't impossible. To get the valve out, I used and allen key that was about the same size as the valve stem and tapped with a hammer. It actually went way better than expected. The real hard part was getting the tire back on. I boiled it in water and used a grease lubricant on the tire wall and on the rim. The key is having long tire irons/levers. Mine were short which mad it really hard. I ending up using one short tire lever, one regular flat head screwdriver, and the key to finishing it was a long flat bike pedal wrench. It's all about leverage. If I do this again I will definitely invest in long tire levers and maybe enlist a second set of hands to help hold the levers down (I used two hands and a foot.) Best of luck!!

You need to open a rotor plate too. There is a plastic valve lock stay you need to take out , remove the tube and after installing new one you need to put it back to secure a valve . Thats why they are hard to pull out

Most complete tutorial so far - you did not miss important information like the "be careful when removing sticker, go deep cause it's the plastic you need to take off", the wrench size is mentioned (18, although I personally recommend getting 2 wrenches), the valve not coming out issue and the solution to drill it (!!!) and you use good tools which you also nicely list at the end of the video! - lube, clamps, tyre irons jeez they make it so easy to put the tyre back on, I wish I had seen this sooner before damaging 2 tubes with my freakin now-bent spoons 😂 Not to mention you honestly express your frustration unlike others that seem so calm it's like almost annnnoyyying especially when they miss out information !!! 😂 Seriously though, the tools can make such a great difference, I bought all the ones you used here, good job 👍

Thanks to this video I did my first tire change in 2 hours, I ran into a lot less problems than you. No valve issues, the bolt loosened with a bit of WD 40 and my daughter sitting as a counterweight on the plank, etc...Smooth sailing until it was time to put the tire on the rim, impossible ....I managed to find two old clamps and was able to mount the tire. Brilliant tip ! Thanks again ! Not looking forward to the next flat tire.

Top tip: if you’re not repairing the Inner Tube, just cut it off and then with a pair of pliers jiggle the valve out. Drilling the valve opening to 10mm after DEFINITELY helps get the new tube valve back, so thanks for that tip. Getting the nuts undone like yours is HELL but this is because of the red loctite fluid they use, once you have cracked them nuts open, they are easy to undo in the future. I used tyre liners for extra protection and an extra thick CST 9x2 tube, half an inch bigger than the standard but well worth the extra half inch for fitting. Thanks for the video!

Mr Jay Thanks for the info. I am a bit concerned of why they added Loctite to the nuts. Does it mean we should also add Loctite when reassembling the wheel,
@NoNameUK
@NoNameUK 4 жыл бұрын
belectric_co I really wouldn’t use loctite in case you need to loosen the nuts again. Just tighten the nuts tightly by hand, and that’s all you need. Every 3 months or so just check they are tight still and give them a tighten if necessary. A bit like a quarterly maintenance check which should be done anyway.

Good vid. Prepared me for what was ahead! Front tyre got a puncture. Last time, it was the rear tyre. I tried to fit a solid tyre on it myself. Feckin NO way I could do it. On me own, little bedsit, no tools apart from 3x6" tyre levers. Took it in to work and begged the fitters to do it, gave em 20 quid. Sorted. Anyway, this time I managed to change the front tyre and tube for new ones. When I pumped it up? Nothing. I must have nipped the tube. Flat, going nowhere. Took it in to work, begged the fitters to put the solid tyre I had bought on. £30 this time, feeling generous, and desperate. Sorted. BUT, I found out a couple of little wrinkles that might help someone else doing this. 1: When taking the old tube off and you're having trouble getting the valve out of the rim? Cut the tube off the valve, all the rubber, as much as you can. This will give you more clearance at the back. Job done, easy. 2: When putting the valve back through the rim? Offer valve up to hole and get it in as far as you can. Then, from the outside of the rim, use the 2.5mm allen key and push it into the valve opening. , now lever down on the rim and push the valve through at the same time. You're trying to lift the valve up and over the inside lip of the valve hole. Worked for me, Hope this helps some other poor bastards trying this job with little knowledge and no tools like I did. :)

A couple of important things to mention: - If you are going to increase the valve hole size, make sure the wheel is clean after drilling and you removed any remaining metal chips. Also, inspect the old tire for a piercing object or debris. - In my case, it helped to warm the main nut holding the wheel with a hot air gun. After that, It loosened a bit easier with an 18 key and a hammer. Clamp the scooter to a table if necessary. - When you install the new tube, make sure you have it orientated right. The valve is not in the middle of the tube.

Thanks for the vid. I had one of these come into the (bicycle) shop today. Considered removing motor cover to access that annoying plastic block, but decided to research the problem first (time disassembling = $) and found your video. I liked your drilling method; I'd been considering the same, but wanted to see others opinions. When I drilled, I only removed a little plastic, no alloy. It was enough. One warning, use soapy water on the tyre, not WD40. Inner tubes do not like mineral oil, as it causes the rubber to rot. Probably not an issue, but tyre shops use soapy water, and I got the scooter tyre on by using it. Finally, I like your clamp idea. I used my knees to do the same job, but I've changed literally tens of thousands of tyres over the last 30 years. If I'd had clamps handy, I would have used them. On a spoked wheel, I use bicycle toe straps to do the same job. Holding that tyre from running around the rim makes life waaay easier.

This is the best scooter on the market but it's best feature (the pneumatic tires) are also its worst nightmare at the same time. I bought one of these about 18 months ago and then later for a short time I became a mechanic for Bird so I got some experience on changing flats. I haven't tried your tire levers yet (I'm going to order some) but Bird gave us the long ones with handles. Problem is the tip is too wide and it's easy to pinch the tube and create a hole while trying to pry the tire back on. Also you really need a helper (4 hands is a must). My wife always helps me. From what I discovered they make the front valve fitting so tight in order to prevent water from entering the rim and damaging the motor. I use a punch with the same diameter as the valve and I just whack it back out of the plastic hole with a hammer. Getting it back in you have to pinch together the tube really tight and at the same time swivel it into the hole. Again strong hands needed. I really like your idea with the Irwin clamps. Another trick I discovered is that when trying to pry the tire back on the rim you must squeeze together the tire as much as possible which gives the bead part some more slack. Not sure the WD-40 is such a great idea due to it soaking in and damaging the rubber. If anything use some green dish washing (like Palmolive) soap. Its a good lube plus when it dries there is no oily residue.

Woho. :D I am right now changing the front tube and I got to the point where I want to insert the new tube. The problem I encounter is the valve is to big, respectively the insertion hole is to small. So I am thinking what to do and I conclude that I could drill the hole open. I already set up the drill but some stomach feeling tells me, better watch some KZbin video first before you ruin your wheel.Possibly I am just to stupid to fit in the valve. After the 3rd KZbin video I find yours and as I click through it I see you drilling holes in your wheel. Big relief! :) After posting this comment I'll do the same.

Best instruction so far. I used W5 lubricant, same stuff I guess. Also extended the key with a polygrip (what i had available). This did the trick for me! Note I tried for over week to remove the nuts prior to that. The old tube wasnt that hard to get out, just used the polygrip. But man, the valve was hard to get in the hole. Still struggling with it but I’m not sure I want to mod the hole just yet.

I popped my tire last night the front one, and I was very dedicated today to get it back together and it took me about an hour or so. My trick with putting the valve back in was to just push literally downwards as hard as you can with both thumbs, I put a little olive oil in the valve hole first, it works if you don't have anything else. But ya just push down so set the tire on its rim with the valve on top and just push that sucker as hard as you can, I know the valve goes to the right and there is very little room in the rim so it feels like it is stuck, but just keep pushing I got mine in in like 1 minute, the getting it out was hard for me. Also I have no clue how I had enough strength but I loosened the nuts with just a like maybe 10 inch wrench, it was hard but I had nothing else and didn't have duct tape so I just went as hard as I could and was like I have to do thissss lol.

Loved this video! I got stuck with the innertube not coming out I was so angry I felt like smashing the scooter to pieces but having watched this video it made me laugh that someone else was just as angry as I was. I had to cut the old innertube out then I couldn't get the new one in so I took the advice and drilled it out which worked. I didn't have any clamps and when I changed the rear tyre I used cable ties to ensure the tyre didn't come off the rim but you can't do that on the front as it doesn't have the spokes. I used my body weight and knees to push on the tyres to hold it into place. It worked although I don't reccomend it the clamps are a better idea if you have them.

You could pre-inflate the tube just a little bit before installing in order to prevent punctures in the process. That's a common practice when changing bicycle tires. Also, the change is more difficult if you remove the outer tire completely instead of just one side.

Not bragging but I did not seem to have as much trouble as everyone else. Nuts were tight but was able to get them with an adjustable wrench. Worst part for me was getting the old tube out. Once that was done I set the new valve in place with half the tube stuffed below the valve. Mainly stuffed some of the tube under the stem so there wouldn't be so much space taken up behind the valve when trying to put it in. Was able to push it in with both thumbs really hard. Putting the tire back on wasn't as bad as it sounded either. A little olive oil, a hand, a knee, and a screw driver.

Here are some observations I made while changing my front tire: • If you don't have an extension for the wrench, lie the scooter down and use your legs to hold the scooter in place while you use the wrench. Gloves help too. • You can just use spoon handles instead of buying tire irons • If you don't need the punctured inner tube, consider cutting the rubber from the stem instead of wiggling it out (or using a hammer and a hex key like I did) • I think it's almost impossible to get the new stem in without: A. drilling the hole bigger B. opening the cover on top of the stem and removing the plastic part which is causing all this grief EDIT: Do not open the engine cover. The screw mounts dethread easily. I really don't know what Xiaomi's reasoning for this kind of design is. A regular bicycle inner tube takes something like 5 - 10 minutes to change, should be the same for a scooter.

Robert P No, I opened the engine cover and took it out. I really don’t suggest this. It’s a really bad idea, two of the screw mounts got damaged and I had a difficult time to put it all back. Just use a 10mm drill or use a small file to make the hole bigger.

@carlospwk
@carlospwk 4 жыл бұрын
Mr White It depends on what your spoons are like and what the tire is like. Some tires are much more difficult to change because the inner edge might have a steel wire beam inside. The stock tire should be easier to change. EDIT: And yes, the design is pretty bad considering how common punctures are.

NIGHTMARE IS RIGHT: I had to have a friend stand on the scooter, while I used the wrench on the 18mm nut. It wasn't easy to get its off. Then I had the same trouble with the stem valve. It wouldn't come out. And when I installed the replacement inter tube, like you, I had a difficult time getting it back on. Then I had problems getting the tire back onto the rim. I have small bicycle levers and one metal lever. I tried to use two clamps, but it didn't work. I used Vaseline to lube the tire rim. I've watched other KZbin videos on installing the tire. I don't know how they were able to get the tire off and on. I think they had the same problems as you and I did, but were holding back and not being honest. I wasn't able to get the clamps to work. I finally put the weight of my knee on the bottom of the tire, and I used two tire levels to get the rim back on. It took me an hour to figure out the the knee was a better solution. I hope I won't have to change out the inter tube or change tires. WHAT A PAIN. Altogether it took me a few hours to deal with the front tire.

This took me about an hour, I tried on the back wheel when it popped with a brand new tire and tube and i couldnt do it myself, i went to les schwab tires and had them put it on for 5 bucks. This time I was dedicated and i also couldnt find any punctures really in the tire that was already on it, so i reused the same tire, ill tell you what, using the tire that was already on it is far easier than trying to put a brand new one on, i luckily found a couple clamps and somehow managed this with 2 clamps and 2 butterknives lol, the valve part was probably the scariest, i just pushed the new valve into that valve whole as hard as i could with no regard to damaging the innertube, just push down as hard as you can with both your thumbs it will pop in, least fun ive ever had, but man was it satisfying doing it on your own, also if you dont have wd40 just use olive oil that is what i did, when untightening the 2 bolts that hold the wheel on i thought it wasnt going to happen unless i jerry rigged up something kind of like he did, but i went back and pushed with all of my might as hard as i could for like 5 seconds and it budged, one side was kinda easy but man i cant believe i had the tools and balls to pull this off. im getting solid tires next time i need to replace i dont care about the ride quality, ill just buy a front suspension kit, fuck doing this again

I've got full rubber tires waiting to go on soon now that I'm on my 2nd flat front tire. I tried changing the front by myself the first time. It took forever to get the inner tube valve out, then I couldn't get it all back together, so my wife took it to a tire shop where it took them almost an hour and 3 people.

Those kinds of nuts are installed with a "fixing" substance that, well, fixes them in place. You can sometimes see it as a blue blob in the nut once you remove it. The good news is that once you open them once, the fixing substance won't be an issue again, but it is true it can be frustrating the first time as you struggle against the nut's wrenching force AND the fixing substance.

Yep! I feel your pain. Mine didn't come out - even after I slashed all the inner tube away from the valve. The Xiaomi technicians building this scooter obviously put the tube in before putting the motor in. Obviously, removing the motor and its housing everytime you get a puncture isn't practical. I've tried to prize out the motor outer casing with no success. So I guess I'll have to drill away at that damn stupid black plastic notch too widen the hole for the valve to go in.

The reason the inner tube would not come out is because you need to remove metal plate as inside you have a black bit holding the tube in place you need to remove before removing inner tube

i got puncture after 124km.. its my mistake to cruisin on a mining site.. to release the front tyre gives me a nightmare .. firstly im doin by myself but i cant..im using 18 wrench.. it keeps sliding. Then i ask for local shop.. it worked only on left side wheres no cable.. but for the right side its completely a different story.. finaly on the 3rd shop.. i made it.. he using a table clamp( big steel one), tight in into the nut..( very thight).. but more problem occur.. the valve wont come out.. so im using wd 40. Plus im using like small philips to push out the valve.. the inner tube is puncture.. so i patch it up with a special patch, heat it. And re install everything.. so im re using the inner tube

i hammered away at the wrench for 20 minutes straight before that fucking nut gave way, THE THREADS BROKE!!!! it literally shattered some of the threads instead of giving way!!! WAS IT WELDED THERE?! WTF .. for real they have glue on the threads, so i guess heating it up a bit would make the nuts a lot easier to remove.

Hey thanks for posting this video. I had the same idea to drill it out bigger but I thought I'd see if others had the same issue. My leak was on the valve stem where it rubs on the hole in question. I think this stupid f'ing hole caused the flat and the reason why I will have to pop a valium in order to finish this job. Has anyone contacted these idiot's (xiaomi) to see if there is a future fix? Not gonna lie, I'm pretty pissed off right now. Getting my drill.
