The star attraction of the Watercress Line's "Spring Steam Gala" would be LMS Jubilee No. 45690 Leander, nearing the end of her boiler ticket. Capturing the engines 3 cylinder beat from the front window was certainly a must before it disappears for overhaul.
Filmed on the Sunday of the Gala, we take a ride behind the Jubilee from Alton to Meadstead which sees the Jubilee tackle the lines steep gradients of 1 in 60 tender first. The noise from the single chimney was certainly a soundtrack to remember, a performance that wouldn't make many think the locomotive was close to being withdrawn.
The wreath on the engine was in memory of Craig Potter, a member of Leander's support crew and a WCRC fireman who sadly passed away in the week leading up to the Gala.
