The Cobb salad was born in the wee hours of a Hollywood, California, morning in 1937 at the Brown Derby restaurant. The owner, Bob Cobb, was ruffling through the kitchen's refrigerator, pulling out various remnants including lettuce, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, tomatoes, chives and avocado.

Sounds like the history of the Caesar salad. Born at Caesar's in Tiajuana with what was left in his kitchen, when several film stars showed up after he closed.

Why do they call a Cobb salad? The Cobb salad was born in the wee hours of a Hollywood, California, morning in 1937 at the Brown Derby restaurant. Part 2: Not dreaming he would ever add this kitchen sink salad on the menu, he shared it with his friend Sid Grauman of the legendary Grauman's Chinese Theatre. It was so delicious that the next day, Grauman came back asking for a "Cobb Salad." It's funny to think of celebrities fawning over leftovers, but when the Cobb salad hit the Brown Derby menu in 1937, a star was truly born.

So sorry for what happened to you Ron. Buy a pouch of tobacco & keep it for bee , wasp stings etc. Wet the tobacco & place it on the sting. Put a bandage around the tobacco if you can . If not hold the tobacco to injured area. It draws poison & stinger out. It's a old remedy passed down in my family. It doesn't matter how old the tobacco gets. It still works.

My cat Henrietta climbed on me this morning a 6:05 AM She jumped on me, got in my face, grabbed my hand and jumped on the window. She drove me nuts at 6:30 I got up and went downstairs to find my husband sitting in a chair in terrible pain. He tripped and fell on the floor at 6:00 AM five minutes later Henrietta jumped on my bed. A trip to the ER give us the bad news that he broke his shoulder. I now swear Henrietta was trying to let me know her dad was hurt. Glad to know she wasn't trying to kill me LOL.

Fun, relaxing, and informative. The salad looks delicious! Making your own salad dressing is always better. The story about the wasp was so funny (now, but not then!). I've been through a tornado several times. Terrifying. Peace be with you friends. 💖 P.S. The chances of being killed by a cat are low, but never zero. Vinegar for wasps, baking soda paste for bees. Venom alkalinity vs acidity - wasps venom is alkaline, so apply an acid to their sting. Bee venom is acidic, so apply an alkaline to their sting.

Man, I’ve been stung by a wasp, not a hornet, and it was nasty! Can’t imagine how painful a hornet would be! My late husband was stung by a bee that flew into his full face helmet while riding his motorbike once. Luckily he didn’t swerve but was able to pull over. But his face was all swollen and he did not enjoy the ride home. Hope that hornet paid for its crime. Though I suppose being sat on could be punishment enough lol. Glad you’re all safe xx

@kay starnes I was praying in church, thought it was a fly that landed on my hand, it was hornets nest in the balcony. Once popped, I opened my eyes and ran to put water on it...called the hospital, hubby drove me, my throat was closing up, face swelling, hand like a fat baseball MIT. It was awful. I had to do IV drip there and come home with steroids. The pastor came over, prayed for me and since all my kids were under age of 5 food came in from the good cooks at the church for a week. It was scary. The first time was when typing in school on the old type writers. Timed test and it landed on my hand. Smacked it, it stung and I started screaming. Teacher went white. Called parents and by the time my dad got home a red streak was going up my arm. He jerked me up to his car and hospital here we came. I hate all flying insects.

When I was 14, an F4 tornado hit Omaha on May 6th, 1975. Our house was largely okay, just two holes in the roof when 2" x 4"s from neighboring homes went through it. The house behind us, just 75 feet away, was destroyed, along with most of our neighborhood. I didn't hear a freight train, just a lot of wind and thumps from things flying around.

Ive lived through hurricanes Harvey, Ike, Rita, and tropical storm Allison. Ive seen small tornadoes, but I've never been in 1. During Harvey, we didn't sleep for over 24 hours because the tornado warnings were constantly going off on our phones and we were so scared. A few years ago the neighborhood across the street was hit by a tornado and they had a lot of damage, and a little tornado spun off the side and went through the parking lot of my kid's elementary school while they were at school! It was caught on camera so I got to see it, thankfully everyone was fine at the school. Mother nature has a lot of power!

The legend is that Cobb had not eaten until near midnight, and so he mixed together leftovers he found in the kitchen, along with some bacon cooked by the line cook, and tossed it with their French dressing.[5] Another version of the creation is that Robert Kreis, executive chef at the restaurant, created the salad in 1929 (the year the Brown Derby's Hollywood location opened) and named it in honor of Cobb.[6] The same source confirms that 1937 was the reported date of the version noted above, with Cobb making the salad.[6] Another version suggests that the salad was hastily arranged from leftovers by Cobb for showman and theater owner Sid Grauman. It was chopped fine, because Grauman had just had dental work done and could not chew well. See also
