I'm an employee on Front Porch Farm, you always rake the outer rows last because when you go back and forth in order to catch all the hay, you have to rake into the first perimeter row. Raking it last allows you to clean up the mess and make a nice windrow.

We bale a lot of peanut hay as cattle feed here in south Georgia. Peanuts grow in the soil and all of that root mass goes in the hay and the cows love it. They will turn their noses up to most grass hay when they have access to the peanut hay.

That couldn't possibly have been dust... Was that mist from the dew being thrown by the rakes?

I don't like using anything to move hay that contacts the ground in order to prevent any soil from lifting into it. The livestock can smell dirt in hay. It also promotes the composting process leading to off smell and spoilage. I think you would appreciate a new double rotary rake. Leave the soil where it lay's. Massive field, arid climate, nice tractor, good video demo. Thanks.

Double rotary rakes properly adjusted will pick up virtually NO dirt/dust. Unlike wheel rakes

I agree. Have used both and in addition the rotaries leave a fluffier less roped windrow. Dries better.

Raking hay in my opinion is a pain because sometimes the hay will get stuck on the rake and you would have to get off of the tractor pull off the hay and get back on them it would do it again 5 minutes later

they are not common in america and the wheel PTO rakes are too small for that field.

We like to rake from 6 to 10 mph.
