@@LordFirekaze I had an English teacher in the year 2000 that was smart enough to use Pac to get through to us. When the topic of poetry came up, we all ignored her. She knew that 2Pac was a favorite rapper for majority of the class. The poetry she chose was "a rose that grew out of concrete." We were all kids that had major behavior issues, or came from broken/abusive homes, and she knew that specific piece of poetry would hit home. As someone that has made a pretty good life for myself (job, family, life in general...) this teacher doesn't know the impact it had. I remember it 22 years later, like it was yesterday. Good teaching, and amazing poetry!

I was in prison and it was lock down. We only had the radio playing for hours. Dear Mama came on and I felt like crying. I looked around and saw literally everyone else tearing up, if not, burying their face in the pillow to hide their tears. I felt like we all had a story and realized that we're all human no matter what we did to get there. All of us shared a moment and were all equal for that few minutes. I can't hear it without crying to this day. Respect ✊🏾

I was all alone in the car drinking a bottle to myself listening to this minutes after mom passed. This song stoped me from pulling the trigger and I remember all the good things my mom taught me… she was definitely there with me that night and stopped me from shooting myself in the head. I can't listen to that song without shedding tears because I can relate. I was in and out of jail, selling drugs since I was 15, then began to use them by 17 and (after a long fight with addiction, incarceration and (everything that comes with it) I got clean 10 yrs later. By then, my younger brother of 11 yrs was doing the same shit only worse and all 3 of us boys had put our single mother thru hell and yet, she was the most selfless person I've ever known the entire time! After my brother put her through over 10 yrs of heartache and constant worries, I was able to buy, gut and remodel a little 2 bedroom 1 bath Condo for her to retire a little early in. Everything was brand new with tags on all the appliances, new kitchen cabinets,granite,floors, doors (literally everything from the drywall in) and she was so excited! One day I was finishing up the bathroom walls and she was supposed to come over and do some touch up in the bedrooms because she wanted to be a part of the whole thing and she was really good at diffrent types of DIY improvements. But, , she didn't show up and after I called her a few times throughout the day without an answer, I had a pit in my stomach and went to her apartment to find her cold and stiff. She died shortly after she told me she was coming over the day before (according to the time of death.) I never got to see the smile on her face when she would've moved in and seen the finished product 2 wks later! She was classy, looked like a million bucks (even though she didn't have 2 nickles to rub together) but, you'd never know that and she'd go without to provide for us.

I remember driving home from work in 95 listening to this song for the first time when I was a young 19 year old (sheltered white girl). The sun was setting in the city of Grand Rapids, MI where they never played black music before in Western conservative MI until around that year and I remember it so vividly. I was tearful and bought the "tape" that week. I never imagined that I'd be playing that same song to my own kids raising them as a single mom trying to do the best I could with no family or help from anyone. As a mother, you try your best with what you have been given and you pray your kids will forgive you and realize without a doubt they were and always will be loved. His lyrics are heartfelt speaking the reality of how hard it can be raising kids but in the end, LOVE truly is and always be the ONLY thing that matters. My son played this for me and I cried like a baby. He was in and out of juvenile starting at age 14 after his stepdad committed suicide. We went through a lot and I had become a single parent. He’s 32 now and no matter how much I loved him and was there for him he just couldn’t get his life right due to alcohol and drugs. It pains me to say out loud that he is now in prison and it’s sad because he’s really a good person underneath all of that. He’s doing so good now and I’ll be here waiting with open arms when he comes home. Thanks for this video. It’s so refreshing to see your dad being open to even listen to rap music. Some people automatically dismiss it without even listening to one song. Good music is good music no matter what the genre is. But many people get stuck in certain genres without taking the time to even listen to other music. Reminds me of my father. We sit down every chance we get and listen to music. My father raised me to be strong but my heart to be soft. I love my father this video reminds me of that special bond a son and father have. This is what we all need no matter what your color is and this is what the government stole from the African family. So much pain and hurt in this song it moves my soul and makes me proud that even tho I’m Caucasian I have African family and that we all started at home to make the difference. Let’s send this message in hopes to heal the African family and give their fathers back to them.

I lost my mom in the figurative sense, she chose drugs, resentment, and hatred over the love of her family. I introduced her to 2pac when I was in high school and she fell in love with his music. For years I couldn’t listen to this song because it would bring up so much pain and anger. I still have a hard time listening to it sometimes but not like before when I was so full of hurt and resentment

I was only 25 when she left us... never got to have any bonding time with her as an adult because of her illness - not much downtime to go out or even just play a board game or watch a movie together. It's funny that this video and your comment popped up today a I'm just kinda recuperating from a depressive bout triggered by two of my good friends' moms dying. The lyrics to this song resonate so deeply for me everytime I hear it and I think for everyone with a mom they love - rich or poor or whatever - if they listen to it will love it. In these days of questionable content in our music this song really stands out. I think 100 years from now, when humanity looks for the greatest songs of that 90s era, this will be in the top 5 somewhere.
