Thank you for the amazing two part series. I didn't make it to the KS, but I got the special pricing for the late pledge. This is the first terrain pieces I will be printing and I love your magnet option. Do you have a tutorial of how to modify the tiles? I've never done this before.

I really like your metal sheet idea! If I wanted to do the same how big of a sheet would I need to accommodate the biggest Gloomhaven scenario layout? Also what is the average layout size? I am thinking of getting a few sheets so that I can set up two or 3 scenarios ahead of time? (I haven’t bought the game yet so don’t have all the details)
@gaminggeek2413 жыл бұрын
I haven't measured but my guess is that you only need two sheets to be able to cover every scenario in the game. That gives you a 3'x4' surface.

Am thinking of picking up 3D printing just for this when frosthaven comes out. Any guide for modifying the bases to work with those magnets? And thx for these wondefull videos. without stumbling upon this youtube vid I would have missed this amazing terrain (or the whole 3D printing terrain scene)! Oh any chance/idea how to get such a hex map with more frosthaven theme?
@gaminggeek2413 жыл бұрын
Rudy, check out my video on how to use Microsoft 3D Builder to edit STL files. Then download this 3MF file and open in 3D Builder and you can add the magnet holder to any of the hexes. drive.google.com/file/d/1a7cB8X4MLUld2mhAdSE1eP1bV26AJs2n/view?usp=sharing
@rudy69453 жыл бұрын
@@gaminggeek241 wow thx for the quick response. I actually just found that one and did that already! I believe the bottom of the talisman hexes are open and so you need to close them first and then add in these magnet holders that are via your link? I’ll download the file (have to get access?). Thx so much for your response. Aiming to buy the Prusia and the digital Sabre files and start this journey! Also painting them will be quite the journey! Want to be completely ready for frosthaven :) I loved your idea of the steel sheet with hex print. Thinking of doing that with the frosthaven map and then to add such a roster of hexes on top….not sure how though yet :) if any ideas let me know! By the way already watched these videos at least three times :) Liked, subsribed and alert bell is on!
@gaminggeek2413 жыл бұрын
@@rudy6945 Yes, no problem. The mod file I sent a link to does close out the bottom of the hexes--all you need to do is add the whole piece to the bottom and resave as an STL file. If you can't get access to the google drive, send me your email address and I can try a direct send to you. Thanks for the sub!
@rudy69453 жыл бұрын
Great thx. When i try to access the link it says I need to request access. I do but not sure if that gives you something to approve or not. How would I go about giving you my email address? Can I PM you in some way? One last question; would the prisma mini+ also be sufficient size wise for all the terrain you usually print for boardgames?

I have no idea how you print such a crisp bridge in FDM. I've tried a ton of settings (chep's being the best so far) but can't get close to that quality. Would you mind pointing into the direction of the settings? Should i fold back to resin printing? Once more, i bow down to your expertise...

@@recowabunga7200 Hmmm, when I had my Ender 5, I searched for a profile to use in Cura and I think I found one in Thingiverse. It took a while for me to get good settings in Cura (see my video for Ender 5). But for PrusaSlicer, I use all stock settings with .2mm height and I make my nozzle temp at 200 after the first couple of layers. Have you checked out 3D printer forums with other Ender 3 users?

@@gaminggeek241 Thanks. I've spent a few days looking and testing before settling on the best ones i found: those of a youtuber named chep (a miniature 3D printer guy kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmqxpmegn6aentU) I just found out now that he's put out some new settings. I'll try those when i'm back from holidays in 3 weeks (for the moment, we're still allowed to leave on holidays! things are getting weird in France). Also, on my Hexes, when i clip them together, they warp upwards instead of having a flat ground. I don't get elephent foot or anything, it's just, when combined together with clips, they warp up. I'll try to brim print them and see if that's a fix.
@recowabunga72003 жыл бұрын
ok! the chep 4.10 settings are great. Much less stringing. I'm in the process of reprinting my wooden hexes with modified bases (holes for magnets, just like you showed us - it is the way!)

You could possibly use Mod Podge Dimensional Magic if you have a simple single item to do a liquid effect with. It's also useful to give cardboard game tokens a little more pizzaz by giving a domed button effect.

I loled at the difference in prices between france and usa for a simple sheet of metal. I just can't find it in big hardware stores in France (not available) and the prices are between double and triple the 12 usd... i'm gonna find out if i can fly over to the usa to go fetch a galvanised steel sheet.
@gaminggeek2413 жыл бұрын
Haha! If you come over, come to St. Louis for a game! But seriously, I think you can get away with not magnetizing and just using the clips.

@@gaminggeek241 That's very kind. As a close coincidence I didn't know where you live, and i am in Chicago today which isn't that far on the scale of things. I got my 5$ daily pass for bus/undergrand, went to lowes, got a metal sheet for 24$, went to Michaels, got (most of) the acrylic paints you pointed towards - (some colors i couldn't find, the Williamsburg blue for example, the mississipi mud). But unfortunately i'm not staying enough time to rent a car and go south to Saint-Louis, because i would have jumped on the occasion otherwise ... (The metal sheet will be usefull, at least for Heroquest, as i am not magnetising TST - i don't have the efficiency you have, and i also don't have enough time to compensate for my inefficiency). I'm kind of in a hurry to get home and paint a little when i get the time :) Thank you for the inspiration. I should be coming back to chicago in a couple weeks. I'm always in awe of the availability of stuff in your shops in the US. It makes France feel a little "third world country" sometimes in comparison.
@gaminggeek2413 жыл бұрын
@@recowabunga7200 Wow, I hope you can pack that metal sheet in your luggage! I don't think of France as a third world country since I see amazing miniatures painted online that look like oil paints were used, the blending is so amazing (like Rackham). Also, you live so close to Essen!

@@gaminggeek241 I'm back in Chicago :) This time i plan on going to office depot max, to get that gaming mat printed (We have office depot in france, but they told me they can't make em, because of some technology gap, and I can't order it at ChigagoOfficeDepot from france/overseas, due to billing adress not being in usa, and i can't fake the billing adress as it has to be in accordance with the bank card registered adress - so no walk arounds) so long story short, i'll go straight up to the counter in chicago and ask them if they can print it in a less than a few hours while i go try orange chicken at Panda Express, maybe also go get the proper 12 dollar galvaSheet (instead of the 22$ non-galva i got last time - i'll always find a use for it, but it's annoying to carry). And hunting down some more acrylic paints, and maybe checking out the saint valentines day area (that's what friends tell me to visit, anyway). I also found the Golden light molding paste at a shop called Joann. I feel like i'm on a childish treasure hunt every time, but it makes me happy enough :) The "luggage" aspect isn't an issue. About the 3rd world aspect, i was kind of exaggerating to make a point, but it's not so much to do with culture, but more to do with the shortage of certain goods. Like, in France since about a year you can't find a kid's bike unless you order it half a year in advance. I'm no specialist in that domain, but i suspect it has to do with the suppliers (rightfully?) not wanting to accept inflation of costs (of materials) and not buying the stuff until costs of material goes down. In the mean time, there's less stuff to sell, and we, customers, in between, have silly shortages for stuff. When i go in one of your Wallmarts, it seems plain obvious to me, you have low prices and abundance of goods available. Until next time, keep well!
