Loved seeing your perspectives on the class! It really makes me want to re-play it with more focus on attack doubling. My play of uncle Iroh the pyro went full hazardous terrain damage using movement items to maximize igneous path bottom as its main setup card with heatwave and deep fury as payoff push sources (I just left flying enemies to my teammates mostly) It's the only class I've played to 9 and ended up setting it aside for scenarios not contributing to pq progression as calamity started invalidating scenarios too quickly haha

Thank you so much for your Frosthaven guides! This one in particular helped me out a lot. For some reason I didn't understand how to play the Meteor class efficiently and even forgot that I could return the persistent abilities into my hand before a rest, which resulted in having a lot of turns where I just really couldn't do anything but move 2 😂

I have played it until level 7 so far, will be playing it until 9 and some, because my lifetime quest involves a looong scenario sequence with calendar brakes (that I havent even started yet...). So far I love the class and the whole theme. One of my favorite parts of GH/FH is juggling elements, the Elementalist is by far my most favorite GH char, so this one being a Savas was an instant homerun for me. My teammates are Trap, Snowflake and Coral. The first two are just insanely good synergy with Pyro. Coral and Pyro are a bit fighting for lava vs. water hexes sometimes, but its no biggie. Our Trap guy has pulled of some insane push/pull combos doing lots of damage and of course we built some trap/lava mazes that were so much fun. Snowflake being able to move everyone around so easily makes most scenarios pretty simple tbh. I took searing smoke, living magma (dope!), heat wave, RoF, Return to the Sauce (omg just soo good, one of the best cards), Swelter. Didn't have much time with Swelter yet, but it looks fun and powerful for sure. The solo mission was a blast and imo one of the best designed ever. Took me three attempts and the use of some alternative cards, but thats what I like about the good solo missions: showing you another way to play the class or trying to coerce you into using character concepts to their fullest.

Love the guide and gave me a lot of new ideas. Just recently hit level 3. Personally Igneous path is my favorite card to use on turn 2 or entering a new room. I tend to use it with burst boots to give me +4 movement. So I can lay down 6 haz terrain.

Excellent guide, one thing to note about Return to the Source is that the perk only ignores hazardous terrain you create, not ones naturally on the board. This allows you to heal from those if they are there as well.

I really appreciate the guide, it is really a good one. There are not many guides out there for this class and I think it's in part because this one is so good that you don't need much else. Thanks for mentioning the hybrid options, as a mostly melee attacker in a 2-player game, I really want my Pyroclast to be able to take some hits when in case the control fails (and let's be honest, it's not that rare that we need to deal with long-range shooters, flyers, jumps, or even the scenario forces us to rush forward, which is not very control friendly) while dealing a solid amount of damage, so I don't like the guides that concentrate on the green/red builds heavily. One thing that I miss in this guide is some advice on which enhancements to pick. So far I figured out that adding a +1 move to the bottom of Liquid Stone is cheap and improves the card a lot. 4 scenarios in with my Pyroclast, I used it several times in combination with Flowing Fire to attack the enemy 3 spaces away, create 2 lava tiles between us, then run around that enemy and push him through that lava to the tile I was occupying, so my teammate can finish what I started. Works on archers, and somewhat works on heavy-shielded retaliating enemies... move 4 with push is much more versatile and I think it will be useful all the way to level 9. The only downside is that most of the funny combos require both elements infused. Speaking of which, I really want my next enhancement to be Fire infusion on the bottom of Cloud Ash. As I see it, Pyroclast lacks bottom card infusions (the bottom of Eruption is not very good), and the ability to have a double infusion with move 3 and an exp at decent initiative will also be good all the way to level 9. Infusion enhancements are expensive as heck, so I really want one on a level 1 card that has a chance to stay with me, and I can see this card doing a great job setting up Cinder Lance at levels 8/9. All the better, replacing hazardous terrain with obstacles doesn't hinder my battlefield control (the reason I don't really like the Fire infusion on Wildfire and want something else) I'd like to throw in some poison enhancement later (to help with shields and prevent healing), but so far I don't see a good card to put it on. It would be good on the top of Hand of Flame, but that is a level 4 card and the enhancement would be way too expensive. I don't see any better cards though (not counting Deep Fury, which would work, but it's never going to get picked at level 2 over the amazing jump at the bottom of Searing Smoke).

After the retirement of my Meteor, I can confirm that both enhancements mentioned above (+1 move on the bottom of Liquid Stone and Fire Infusion on the bottom of Cload Ash) were absolutely amazing for me. In the end, Liquid Stone + Flowing Fire dealt 9 direct damage at scenario level 4 when positioned properly, and Cloud Ash did amazing job setting that combo up. In the end, I didn't use Cinder Lance much for the top action, but the bottom was amazing as well and didn't need any elements. Overall, I'm really impressed with the Meteor's performance. It had everything I needed it to do. When I needed to tank a few hits, I was able to. When I needed to crowd-control the whole room, I was able to. When I needed to nuke the boss fight, I did like 50 dmg to it in 2 rounds. It really felt like a complete power-fantasy sometimes.

Heyy thanks so much for this great guide realy enjoy this character and you helped there alot! Got a question for Living Magma bottom: May I move the hazardrous terrain one hex and move it back then? So if one opponent is standing on it and another enemy right beside it, I'd move it to the neighbor and back again to damage both?

The Pyroclast is my favorite class in Gloomhaven/Frosthaven. I FULLY agree with your advice about taking the 3 check perk. I advised a fellow player to NOT take this character unless he was prepared to spend 3 checks on a single perk. It is money well spent.

Tiny nitpick on flowing fire, you say that you put lava down on every hex not used for the attack, but if it kills a target it can put lava down in that hex as well (or im wrong, but i think im correct)

Would you consider doing a guide for Shackles? Literally every single guide I have found so far has incorrect card readings in them, and not minor ones either. The class itself is lovely weird, even if it can also be very straightforward. If you do, remind people on the intricacies of disadvantage. It can be very important depending on perk choices.

The push from Quenched Rage was something I always wanted to make work and never got it to line up. I was going with a ranged hazardous-focused build and I just didn’t end up with a lot of access to earth. And the bottom was useless for said build, so it was hard to justify bringing.

The biggest issue with that ability is that is destroys your hazards, which is something you'd never want - unless you are targetting the last enemy in a room and you are not coming back. I did a full pushs 3 once but ended up regretting it.

Our drifter just retired and picked this one. I'm very curious to see how well it synergizes with the party. L3 Fist, L3 Blinkblade, and L6 Deathwalker, but Deathwalker is about 2 scenarios from retiring and plans to pick up the Trap. Seems like map zoning is going to be an incredibly strong point in the party when that happens, but I'm hoping it's not too crowded to be effective for each of them. I'm guessing Fist will be our tank, Blink is the striker, trapper is control, and pyro is the hybrid build here.

@griever667
@griever667 Жыл бұрын
@@RageBadgerGaming Blinky is in my book more powerful. I have never seen (not even in GH) such a brutal class. With just a Major Power potion (and vigor) the BB just instantly kills a third of the level in one turn. It was not even depending on the placement of tiles or monster movement. On level 9 BB just does up to 12 Attacks in one turn with no pattern or multitargets involved. BB oneshots nearly every boss. With the Major Power only one of those attacks is a attack 3 and one is even an attack 12( twelve!) and the AMDeck is just bonkers. Rolling +2s?? The combo of nova (breakneck speed+double time) and then reverse the flow + stab them all + precision timing + fastest alive is just insane. And it isn´t even too risky. Yeah sometimes I was exhausted one round before the scenario was completed but I killed nearly always about 70% or more of the enemies (at any playercount). Many experience the BB only on the low levels without the best cards and without the best gear. Choose this class later on. It´s a blast!

There is no way pyroclast is "the strongest class" due to burst after 3-4 turns of setup to quadruple the damage with a loss action, when you can simply look at shackles dropping the agony of others then next turn drop reprisal and drink a hammer potion to slap around 30 true dmg.. And you can even repeat it the next round with bane if you'd like and a stamina potion.. Pyroclast is indeed not bad to manipulate monsters, but damage-wise he's middling and requires a substantial setup to dish out more than 4-5 base, which then results in you playing around your lava instead of focusing on making the monsters play around it..
@DanielEmp
@DanielEmp Ай бұрын
I'm one of the few players who hated every moment of playing shackles (delayed malady build, not the retalliate one you mentioned though). She is strong, but nothing comes close to Pyro when it comes to destroying everything efficiently. Hazards are 2/3/4 true damage each, so with careful positioning and all the forced movements you have access to, you end up adding a lot of true damage to your attacks (allies too if they can push/pull). I had no trouble killing 15-20 HP enemies in a single move on high levels. Or wiping out entire rooms with a double loss combo. Flying monsters can be troublesome, but meteor has access to some very potent single damage attacks as well. Shackles would need to drink the strong poison while having delayed malady AND consume fire to have a single attack 6 (7 if you also muddle yourself), Pyro just needs the enemy to be adjacent to 2 wall/obstacle/objective hexes.
@Rev3rence
@Rev3rence Ай бұрын
@@DanielEmp you hated it because you played delayed malady. I didn't play into the retaliate build either, I don't want to entrust my damage to a card flip. I thought of playing the plague lord at first but I got a headache just from imagining managing all these debuffs. I ran a mixture of a ranged dps with the reflect damage bottoms. My opener was always using burned at both ends bottom into phantom limb top (once i got the levels) with the head item that allows to add another target to your ranged attacks. I would then set up redemption to constantly chip on enemies every turn and use either penance top or blood ritual with reprisal bottom. When I'd need to nova a boss I'd use the forementioned combo with the hammer potion. I had options to always damage enemies back even when I take damage, using the agony of others and/or reprisal. At lower levels i'd use infection purge with unhealthy/deadly mixture, at higher levels i moved to penance, it was a smooth ride. I think my build comes online at level 4, when you take both level 3 cards. And by the time you get to phantom limb your AMD is bonkers. Even at level 4 I could deal consistently 7-10 damage per round and i could clear 3-6 enemies in one or 2 rounds once the full build came online. Also as a side note i had no problem generating my elements.. My wife playes meteor, it started dishing substantial damage now on lvl 8, but it still requires a lot of careful positioning of hazardous terrain, which is always 2/3 for us since we keep retiring at different times. I think it also matters that we play in a 2 player setting, where there are way less enemies to affect and control to begin with. I feel like meteor is Demolitionist 2.0 if you played Jotl, which i think was a very underwhelming character ..
@alkaliaurange
@alkaliaurange Ай бұрын
My interpretation is that because Pyro is really good at control AND does decent dmg (due to cards and AMD perks), it's arguably the strongest class. It's hard to find a class that can do both decently.
