24 HOURS AT SEA ... Day 1, Sailing Malaysia to Indonesia, Ep 244

What is like to spend 24 hours at Sea? this is the beginning of our passage sailing from Malaysia to Indonesia www.sailingnandji.com
In this episode, let the journey begin! We leave Malaysia after spending the last 18 months in the country. We were stuck, have worked crazy hard completing a second refit to our boat and then had a baby. Lock down after lockdown, Nandji is finally free and on the move again!
We have a 700 nautical mile sail to reach our check in port of Padang, Indonesia. The first part of the journey involves crossing the bust shipping channel, the Malacca Strait. This is area is protected from the open ocean ground swell but it is close to the equator and large unexpected squalls can happen at anytime. Picking a gap in the monsoon winds, we begun the dash across to Indonesia. We were lucky to have the perfect weather forecast window for this passage. Nothing else to say, let's go! On to the next chapter of our lives!

You guys are so good about making sure Tallula is safe on board the boat. I love that you take those precautions even making sure her car seat is locked down to the boat. Then the life jacket to take her up on the deck out of the cockpit. I think she is the safest baby on a boat that I have seen in all the channels who have had babies through covid or just before. Good to see you finally underway again!

I was a little undecided about how I was feeling this morning already up for hours...but taking a video break whil Laying down for a spell.. both of you're uplifting opening comments lifted my mood and got me to focus on the bright side for the day come what may... OH and I got my physically aging fast outta bed and drove 40 minutes to have help climb over the billiards of a 85' schooner to sail the ruggedly beautiful Penobscot Bay in Maine..Been a divorce and financial ruin and few years struggle to get good again and 26 years since my last sail on a fore and aft schooner ..to finally ride the bay again on a craft with wings made of canvas...once more filling my heart still today like it is hard to completely not hearing a good chime that seems to last and last in the mernory..

Oh thank goodness for AIS! Having that many fishing boats so nearby must have been real scary, especially when they are heading right for you. I noticed that you have a bow strobe making your position much more obvious to the boats around you. As for that precious daughter of yours, Talula is a real cutie for sure! She seems to be quite content to be sailing with few.bad moments, at least on camera.

At the start of this weeks show I noticed that your engine controls cover is broken in two pieces. Yesterday I watched some KZbin videos on how to weld plastic. It worked very well on my battery box and its lid. If you have some plastic wire ties on board and a low power soldering iron then you should be able to fix your engine cover. Great to see you on the movie again. Good luck making it back to AUS.
