Frozen Beaver Dam Removal Day 5

So, I am back with dry leak free waders. I didn't accomplish much in the way of opening the dam but realized it would have to run for a few days. I thought I was going to be able to break up some more of that ice as well. It was still almost 3" thick! I decided to let it run for a few days before I returned.

Gene, I think you hate winter as much as I do, so I moved across America from Wisconsin burrrr to Nevada, days now get up to 66 degrees. watching as many of your videos as I can, always thumbs up, bet you sleep good anyway, Sweet Dreams

Hello Gene We don’t have snow here in Melbourne Australia and have only visited where it snows in the Mountains a few times in my life I remember it being very beautiful but so cold I admire you working in those conditions Have you acclimatised to the cold , I suppose you have if you live in Canada It’s such hard work for you but wonderful for me seeing the lovely scenery in your country Stay safe and take care of yourself Kind regards Maria ❤️🦘🦘🦘❤️ I’ve lost many pairs of glasses while gardening 😂I’m much more careful now as they’re expensive to replace

Hey Mariagdaws. 👋 I have to say that I would miss the snow if it were gone. I never look forward to its arrival. But there are some fun parts that come with it. I do get acclimated to the cold. I know this because the same cool temperatures in the fall feel so warm in the spring. I love being out there. It's amazing how many nice places are around here. Watched you working in the cold water again. Wow, the ice is very thick already. Here in Northwestern Illinois we have no snow and no ice so far this winter. How much deeper were you able to make the channel? Does one swampy area run into another or was the area once a stream? What are the piles in the distance made of beyond the beaver lodge? I know that's a lot of questions, but looks like the area is flat. Keep up the good work for the farmer and others.

Hey Connie 👋 Great questions. It gets colder sooner here I guess, 🇨🇦 🦫 🧊 🥶 I got it pretty deep but there is still a ways to go. It is so much more work in the winter....🥶 This was once a stream, more more accurately a drainage ditch through a farm field. Yes, this was actually a hay field😳. It is amazing how beavers can change the landscape. All 4 of these dams are on the same stream. Day one was on the lowest dam and I worked my way up the stream to dam 4. The big piles in the backround are rock. We have lots of that around here. If you look close/zoom in, there is a deer stand on the one rock. There are 2 deer stand overlooking this dam which is why I am bright orange, lol. Thanks for watching, 👍

Hey Louis Yes, it flowed 🌊 for a few more days after that as well. It is taking a long time because I could only open the dam so much. The rest was frozen solid.

Hi Karan, 👋. I used to bring a shovel. I find it really gets stuck on the sticks and logs. This particular dam though was a lot of mudd. So it might have worked good. Especially in the running water. I have tried a few things but I find the trusty potato rake is the best weapon, lol. Thanks for watching, 🇨🇦 🦫 🇨🇦

Oh, they are out there, lol. 👀 🦫. I always look around lots. It is hard to hear anything over the running water. It's easy for things to sneak up on you, people, moose, bears, etc. It was hunting season then as well.
